If they hear firing, but the drill hasn't started yet, could that mean a conflict has begun which is not the drill itself?

I don't know about that - we have heard reports of sounds of fire. We have heard reports that the officials will not announce until drill is over. Accordingly - we really don't know what is going on at this very moment

Not sure if this has been posted yet, but . . .

This interesting regarding the location of the artillery to be used in the drill. So maybe it is not as bad as we all are thinking, unless as the article states later, the North uses this as nothing but an excuse.

Q: Very quickly, sir, what are your concerns about South Korea overnight saying it will begin live-fire drills on Yeonpyeong Island sometime in the next few days and your concerns about the instability and what could -- what could happen, what the impact may be of them beginning live-fire drills in such a sensitive place?

just met ex-unification minister Lee Jae-joung protesting over drill in front of gov't bldg.

dont know who this joung is but he is protesting the drills.... maybe a north korea plant..

Lee was one of the most powerful men during the previous Roh Moo-hyun administration. He appeared now as powerless as any other citizen.

I hope they do not, but remember an artillery drill was the reason why they retaliated the last time. The only difference now, is that South Korea will attack back quicker and probably more severely.
