People pay to watch athletes the same reason they pay for a painting or a musician. They pay for the athletes talents. If you don't like sports, you just don't like sports. Also, if you try hard enough, you can find sex in just about anything. So, yes, this is stupid.

And here is more " Colloquially, a conspiracy theory is any unconventional theory about current or historical events, with the connotation that that theory is unfounded, outlandish, or irrational or in some way unworthy of serious consideration." www.wordiq.com...

See? It's a whole lot more than just what you said. All it has to be is unfounded and/or unconventional for it to fall under "conspiracy theory" and that is most definitely what I have created. Thank you for playing, and good day.

Dictionary.com wasn't good enough for you? What you supplied was a history of the word if anyithing. And is this game we're playing sexual too?

yes well this is all fine and good but it is not a conspiracy. It might be an interesting coincidence or something planned but either way it is merely a matter of trivia if true and nothing if false. Please reconsider using the word conspiracy if no crime of any sort is committed .

When I played sports, sex was not on my mind. Beating the competition was. If you are thinking about vaginas when someone slides into home plate, I don't think it is the sport with the sexual issues. However, you do get a point for a very humorous thread. Maybe sports is just your porn.

Actually you either deliberately ignored what I was saying or you just misunderstood.

I was pointing out situations in which you cross thresholds and insert things that do not occur in sports. They disprove your theory.

There is nothing in sports that makes it any more sexual than walking through a door.

I think that it is you who are either deliberately ignoring me or misunderstanding me.
In which case we are caught in a trap, you and I. Ha.

You know with your parting statement of "Have a nice day" I thought that ment you didn't want me to continue pointing the holes out in your ridiculous hypothesis but it seems that I'll have to keep on embarassing you.

Could you please explain once again, for the jury, how sports are that important and that's because of your imagined symbolic association that sport has with sexual intercourse?

edit on 20/9/10 by Death_Kron because: (no reason given)

Yes you have embarrassed me so. I'm completely broken.

Of course I will sum up all six pages and 102 replies as a write, just for you! Because you are so kind!

It's just your perverted mind making these link.

So there's no sexual innuendo in the linguistics of sports?

Nice one, perv.

I play and follow sports because I enjoy them.

Playing has many benefits, like getting fit and it also gives me a good social life. In no way would I attribute the sport I play, to sex (Australian rules football, not that you americans know what it is, lol).

I also follow and play sports because I enjoy them, Oz. Playing gives me the same benefits as well. I do know what Aussie rules football is , though. I'm one of few Americans captivated by other cultures of the world. I have thought of Aussie rules football as one of the most badass , if not the most badass, sport on the planet for years now.
( I always thought you were cool , Oz, but knowing you play this game makes you even cooler in my mind :cool

Look, mate, it's not about why you play them consciously. My premise has to do with what sport symbolizes at the unconscious level.

I think I see what you are getting at. Those labelling this thread as childish should stop, he's not attacking or hurting anyone, he's just putting a theory forward. Half of you guys put crack pot theories up here anyway....so why's this childish?

It is a pretty badass sport, we dont wear padding, and we do hit pretty hard when there's contact. Unfortunantly I had to miss this season due to a serious shoulder injury, and it looks like next season is a no-go as well

Ah well, see the surgeon in November, and will see what he can do. He does the proffesional teams, so hopefully he can get me back into it sooner

Thank you, Oz. That was awesome.

I hope you get well soon, mate.

Come on guys.....womens roller derby.....any conspiracy there?

I'd like to see the sexually penetrating conspiracy theory for that sport.

I never wrote , nor implied that I thought about vaginas when someone slides into homeplate. Thanks for insinuating that it's a sexual issue on my part and completely ignoring the point of this thread.

How am I funny? Am I like a clown? Am I like funny ha-ha?

You are entitled to that opinion. However, why should I use the word conspiracy only when a crime has been committed? The entire ATS forum for aliens would not exist if it conformed to your definition of "conspiracy".

Womens roller derby is hot! I used to date a girl who did it and, trust me, at least in her case, she worked at implying some latent-sappho-eroticism into it!

You don't like linguistic banter with me do you? You don't I can tell. You don't like that your cherry picked definition doesn't work the way you wanted it to either.
And no, I'm not playing a sexual game with you, creep.

I think its human nature to take even the most innocent think and make it sexual. Just my 2 cents.

Instead of interpreting sport and war in terms of sex, it might be better to interpret sport and sex in terms of war.

You may well be right, but what evidence, apart from analogic correspondence, is there to justify the proposition?

Human beings aren't the only primates that go to war. Chimps do it, too. The ouctomes of these wars include impacts, positive or negative, on the groups that engage in it. However, the evidence for group selection in evolution is poor and most evolutionary biologists regard natural selection as taking place at the gene level. This implies that all instinctive activity is survival- and reproduction-oriented.

Replication of genes is the reason why all phenotypes exist. This includes the extended human phenotype, which subsumes culture and other human effects on the environment. If the phenotype includes the propensity for warfare, warfare must confer survival and reproductive benefits.

Now we know that status is all-important among social males when it comes to mating opportunities.

Prowess in war is a way to gain status. However, it is also a high-risk strategy from a genetic point of view, so we prefer to avoid it when we can.

Sports is one way of doing that--attaining status without exposing oneself to the full gamut of lethal risks attendant upon warfare and other killing contests.

dominance would be the underlying factor, not sex in my opinion. Sex is of dominance, as is sports, war, to include most other competitive... activities.

Many 100's or years ago, and pretty much still recent as well, it was all about conquests. Mankind went out to conquer the worlds. Seems to be human nature that has, for most people, moved over to sports. We just want to dominate and destroy the opposition to prove we are the best. Simple... most males still want to dominate the opposite sex, with sex.

And, most people have been making use of sportterms in combination with sports to make it sound more exciting, or they just want to sound cool/clever using sportterms in other forms of life. In most businesses sportterms will also be used to motivate employees, anything arousing about that you think?

There is no conspiracy, apart from the conspiracy to make it a conspiracy on your part,

p.s. This whole first, second, third and whatever base you Americans use, isn't even in use in mainland Europe. I personally think that sportterms sound more sexual, because they have been used by males to make their sexlive sound more like a conquest/sport, in english than any other language. Although I wouldn't mind a native spanish speakers perception on this.

If you want to know the truth... I've lived in America my entire life and have never been totally clear about what first, second, and third base really are supposed to represent. I mean, a Quakers idea of "third base" might well be my idea of batting practice.

Although home plate was never hard for me to figure out at least.

Haven't read all the responses to this thread. You made some intersting points in the OP.

And I wonder about racing. Maybe it's already been brought up. The fastest wins. The first sperm that reaches the egg wins!

Naw. Not always. But ignorant peoples wouldn't have understood this.

I want to see women's sports! Designed by women. Attained goals defined by women. I have no idea what these sports could be. The man who is fastest to do a load of laundry, and also change a baby's diapers while washing the breakfast dishes, and dusting the little birdy statues? LOL

I jest.

Really, what is a feminine sport? Who can best sew a quilt? lol

Personally, I believe women have always controlled what sports men play.

Just saying........women, in their wildest form, want beasts. They want someone who will provide for them, their children, protect them, provide for them. And they want symbols that are difficult to obtain. That's all the marks of a "good" provider.

Sports are a great way for a woman to decide. And what better sports to devise, than those that either prove physical prowess or sneaky intelligence?

Just saying............women actually make the world go round..........and, isn't this what the feminist want men to realize? lol
