So I was thinking today about if the united states would ever fall from power as all great civilizations of old have. My answer at first was no. But then I got to thinking, what about cyber wars, imagine all our power grids being shut down. Imagine our nukes being disabled.etc Is this plausible or just my overactive imagination? If it plausible do you think it will ever happen?

scientists predict a massive CME from the sun during it's solar maximum in 2012-2013 that could knock out most (if not all) power grids around the world. that would take us all back to pre-industrial times.

If it is like 'natures EMP', then all electrical/electronic devices will be fried. Then the planet can start a bit of recovery and get the natural harmonics back in order.

We are in a decline right now due to a number of reasons, chiefly the rigged economy, our ill advised imperialistic foreign policy, and a dumbed down population. The whole "power grid / infrastructure going out in a cyberwar" meme is absolute bollocks, It's a poorly crafted scare tactic that is being thrust upon us by politicians and their propaganda arm (ie the entire mainstream media) to get us used to the idea that government will be exerting total control over the net, thus making free speech on the internet (and everywhere else) an idea that's days are numbered. Don't worry, they will still let us read CNN.com and play Farmville if you are lucky enough to be able to afford power and internet access after the dollar collapses.

But I digress.

There are a few scenarios that might play out as far as the USA goes. None of them involve a lifestyle even remotely resembling our last peak in the 90's. Tough times are ahead. My top three probabilities...

1) Dollar crashes, hyperinflation sets in, food riots begin, many die, troops ( most likely UN ) are brought in to quell the violence. Most of our forces are still overseas. UN troops kill and imprison American resistance to their occupation. Resistance cells will continue but will ultimately be betrayed by docile population. USA exists in name only as a true third world nation under authoritarian rule with no sovereignty. Agenda 21 is your new reality.

2) Dollar crashes, hyperinflation sets in, populace awakens and along with some of the military and police, fight a brutal civil war against corrupt government who has some of the military, a ton of contractors, and much of the CIA still in their pockets. Portions of the country secede into at least four new countries. ( The South reforms the CSA, Texas and other SW states reform The Republic of Texas, California, OR, NV, and WA group up and secede, but will have their hands full trying to stay that way, Possible Chinese beachhead is formed there. The mid-west will be a battleground for farm land, and the East Coast / New England remains the USA.)

3) Dollar crashes, hyperinflation is about to set in, so last card is played by government, nuclear and/or biological false flag is performed, we blame Iran and attack them, pissing off China and Russia. WWIII. All bets are off.

Cyber war is an ongoing fact of life for not only governments, but also large companies.
Not 'harmless' amateur hackers, but government sponsored electronic warfare.
Companies such as Google suspect that China is one of the most prolific, Chinese IPs being associated with a number of high profile attacks.
There is no reason to believe that states are willing to launch attacks on private companies and refrain from doing so against other states, where the potential gains and advantages may be much greater.

Hacking for the secrets of businesses or government agencies is one thing, and yes, that is a fact of life. Hacking into our power grid and shutting it down or into a nuclear reactor or a missile silo from a desktop in China is bunk. These systems are self contained and can only be accessed via physically accessing said systems, a' la the recent story of the DoD getting infected via a flash drive. The answer to avoiding that one is don't let personnel with dual citizenships serve our government in any secure capacity.
