As I get older (and probably not wiser) I tend to miss the occasional thing here or there !!
What has caught my attention is this group (?) website (?) or Mindset (?) called 4-Chan.

Following the highly published Cat in a Bin and that Sicko girl lobbing innocent pups to their Death, 4-Chan has apparently hunted down these individuals and Publicized their details.

Is this a good thing or Bad thing ?

Regarding the Sicko Girl then she has apparently been made to Apologize and explain herself, which if I'm not mistaken WILL have made her think about her actions -- That's called Responsibility which I feel is sadly lacking in our societies today...

The same was true of the Grey old lady who likes flippin cats into green wheelie bins, again she has apologized and will probably be more aware of her actions in future...

They are both good examples of how we can all be 'made accountable' - BUT is that a good thing ??

I think it is and so there - I have nailed my colours to the mast for all to see.

4-Chan the Internet Police BUT not accountable to the State... good idea or not ??

Regards

You do not hurt animals and post it on the net. 4-chan will hunt you down. They have helped with the apprehension of quite a few criminals using their internet detective skills, and I for one applaud them for it. It's like seeing a crime in person and helping to catch the bad guy. After they are done catching the bad guys, they go back to posting trannies, funny cartoons, and kiddie porn. Just don't cross the animal abuse line, especially with cats.

They are more like "internet private dicks", as opposed to internet police.

I don't see anything wrong with it ONLY because they are not actively seeking personal files of random people. Video evidence was posted. If evidence of a murder was posted, I would hope it would be used to catch the murderer. It doesn't cross that thin Orwellian line IMO.

4chan going vigilante on some animal abusers doesn't change the fact that the site is known to traffic in child pornography. In the process of this internet hate machine going after these people some innocent bystanders are always caught in the crossfire and wind up with their lives seriously turned upside down.

Sounds reasonable to me though I don't really play favorites. Cats, dogs, turtles, chicken, etc; all should be treated with respect, even ones that give us food and other goods.

Helig

Not really knowing much about this has the site really been prosecuted for Illegal pornography?
If so by whom or is that one of those myths put out by some (the authorities?) to dis-credit ?

First things first: You just broke rule 1 and rule 2. Youd better watch out or anon will try and skin you alive.

That said, all the comments about 4Chan being a hub for kiddie porn, is bull, in fact as much as they joke around, most of the people on 4Chan take an active stance against it. So much so tot the point where if you post any actual kiddie porn, you can be guaranteed that within about 15 minutes someone will have completely traced your IP, and sent your info to your local police station, they do some weird stuff, but they go far beyond what corner your all shoehorning them into.

Since I'm in the process of shedding my ego, I'll ask Anonymous to assist the process.

If they can destroy my life bad enough, there won't be anything to fear, not even Anonymous.

I still won't harm any kittehs or puppehs in the process though, not for anything.

4chan is an imageboard website. Many of the sites users have virtually no moral compass whatsoever.

Some of the users of 4chan have made a positive impact on various issues, but that's not very relavent.

It's an imageboard website, not the internet police. You would NOT want to give your average 4chan user any real power.

I'm not saying there's all bad on the site, but seeing "4chan" and "internet police" in the same sentence makes me shudder.

First off, Rules 1 and 2 only apply to raids.

The first rule of 4chan is you don't talk about 4chan.
The second rule of 4chan is you don't talk about 4chan.

Lulz is a corruption of LOL. For instance, 4chan hates the puppy thrower, but loves James Lee. Just post a picture of Joseph Stack saying All Hail the new King of /b/ and you'll get a brazillion posts saying, "His name was Jospeh Stack."

What the puppy thrower did was detestable, what James Lee did was lulzy. 4chan really is the internet hate machine. What happened to that girl in Aruba? Hilarious. That old woman throwing cats in bin? Reprehensible.

The hardest thing to understand is that ANON is not a group of people. It is more a hivemind that makes up an internet noosphere.

4chan... well, /b/, is one of the few places on the internet where above the average IQ people plays to be retards. Everything you do/post is for teh lulz, and you do everything for it. That's why they look more retarded than real retards, they're just playing the idiot to have fun. How do I know this? Well, I've been a /b/tard since 2005, and jokes aside, I have participated in very interesting discusions about quantic theories, forensics, advanced maths, laws, politics, theology, even some paranormal... All this kind of threads appears near to 4 AM, and they're very, very interesting.

It's a bunch of very inteligent people playing the dumb, of course they can do great things when they unite. The last case is just a button of what they can do. The most hilarious for me is still the trolling they did IRL to a scientology "church" some years ago. That was a veeery good one.
anyway, don't mess with cats and puppies or Anon is going to find you and screw your life. Like, forever.

Agreed....I am a girl, and as there 'are no girls on the internet I don't know if my opinion is relevant
(i need a trollface icon!)

/b/ discussions can be quite intelligent in addition to teh lulz and are frequently brought up in our house. Generally the pics of trannies/dodgy porn etc are scrolled past! I have not noticed any CP, I am sure it's there but 'don't look don't find'....

As for the internet police, when the story about the puppies came out, apart from disgust the next thing I thought/said was 'betcha /b/ is onto this' and sure enough....if it comes to animals, especially teh kittehs look out!

Purple: in regards to the rules, if you're interested just google 'rules of the internet' there is quite a few...

I'd have to agree with Helig.

I think 4chan has probably helped ruin more lives than helped.

And the only reason they go after these people and dig up thier info is because they get some kind of pleasure out of making someones life a living hell...no matter the cause...and these people are just easy targets. It's not done because of any high morals the 4chaners have.

See Encyclopedia Dramatica for all things 4chan.

Be prepared to be offended. It is the explicit intention of ED to offend you. That is often the joke. So if you are easily offended, just don't go there. Expect the most irreverent, foul, racist crap you can imagine and then much more.

YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!

4 Chan is a message board full of trolls and animu lovers. They don't take anything seriously and are generally retarded ON purpose.

They look up people/ hack websites/ that they feel deserve to be messed with. Such as Sarah Palin and animal abusers.

It is not an organization in anyway- just a bunch of animu nerds getting together and posting.
