There are many who are convinced that Islam is the enemy in the war on terrorism. But is it really?.. To say that you would condem and blame over one BILLION people who subcribe to a faith that happens to be shared by radical terrorists.

Is Islam really the enemy?

By the numbers... Population (estimates) of Muslims around the world obtained from various web sources and the stats are subject to critical review.. however it does give us an idea of how many may belong to the faith of Islam world wide.. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Vilification of a faith can condem many millions of inocents. The true enemy hides within all faiths. Evil knows only a few. But that very evil would have you condem all in the name of Faith.

In my view Islam is not the enemy for if it were we'd be facing an army of many millions. But in the end that may be the ultimate goal of islamic terrorism.

I doubt if anyone will agree that the entire Islamic faith is the enemy of democracy, freedom, Christianity and the western world. We are at war with a radical group of Islamic extremists that doesnt follow the teachings of Islam or the teachings found in the Koran. They have perverted the teachings of that faith to promote their own selfish agenda and political ideas. Out of the one billion people, probably 99% are peace loving people and dont support these radical teachings or terrorism. They have openly condemned these actions and say that Islam is appalled and saddened by their actions.

Wow I didn't realize so much of the earths population still believe in mythology. I guess I must be the cream of the crop to be above all that. I don't know whether to laugh or cry that so many humans are so far behind.

Islam certainly contributes more to terrorism than any other religion, so what's your point? Facts are facts. Will muslims be responsible for destroying the planet? I wouldn't be suprised if the blow us back to the stone age again.

Numbers don't legitimize anything other than somebody came up with a good way to fool allot of people. As far as I'm concerned any religion that teaches that everyone else is wrong is the enemy of man.

I haven't read the koran only parts as quoted by other books. How can you say that the koran doesn't promote war and terrorism. In it, it states to muslims that they are not to take Jews and Christians as friends. And that if killing is required to further the cause of Islam then do it. I say that the "peace" cry that is supposed to be islam is not the real islam. I say we are seeing the real islam and the terrorists who use violence do so because they have read the koran all the way through and that is the basic belief it touts. Islam is to take over the whole world no matter how you do it.
In the book of Revelation those in the last days before Jesus returns are beheaded because they will deny Christ. In the last couple of weeks 2 Americans have been beheaded, as far as I know it had nothing to do with Christ, but we are now aware that Islam is associated with beheading. It may be later than we think.

Some would argue that Christian fundamentalism is as dangerous, if not more dangerous than Islamic extremism, especially since Christian fundamentalists control the largest armed forces in the world...

Is the enemy Muslims or Islam, is really the question.

The actions taken by the enemy is in the book. Lying to the infidel, killing him, its all ok. Making the entire world either accept Islam or die by the sword is not only ok, but is the duty of the Islamic world. Does that mean that every Muslim is the enemy? Of course not, but you'd better make sure you understand that your enemy has been beheading Christians for a long time, and it isn't going to stop anytime soon.

Look at the predominately Muslim nations on your list and you'll see where Christians are losing their heads for their belief in Christ. As a matter of fact, it isn't just Christians, look at Kashmir, for axample, to find Hindus dying because they aren't Muslim.

Cider, people who argue that are stupid. Two reasons; the U.S. is not controlled by the Bible, but our basic morals, ethics and principles are based upon the Bible. Second, even if this nation was a Christian nation in the same regard that Muslim nations are controlled by Muslim Sharia, whoop-tee-doo! Last time I checked, my Great Commision was to spread the Gospel, not kill those who reject it. Yup, those who argue that point, Cider, are ignorant of Christianity and of the facts of the times. Well, maybe they aren't ignorant, maybe they are trying to throw up a smokescreen for the enemy that wants to destroy the West.

The enemy is not human. The enemy is systems of beliefs clashing with each other. I don't think all muslims are the enemy, but the small few who pervert and twist the teachings to suit their own agendas, be it whatever religion one follows.

Is the goal of terrorism to stain all muslims? I wouldn't doubt it.

If we are going to make Islam the enemy and the people of the Islamic faith known as Muslims then perhaps you had better look at the numbers again. If these muslims of the world were to actually unite against us we'd have no chance and maybe no choise but to use nuclear weapons. The muslim terrorist will not fight a conventional war. So you should understand that Islam is not the enemy because if all Muslims were united with these terrorists it would be the war of wars already.

We cannot kill a faith and when you look at the numbers you must understand that not all of Islam is evil. and for now judging all Muslims based on the actions of a few radicals is just wrong.

Bottom line we had better hope or perhaps pray that the Muslims of the world do not unite against all in the western/chirsitian world. For if they do and are all of the same mind of these terrorists, willing to die in suicide attacks to kill us... if that happens we will not have a chance!

Fundamental means pertaining to the foundation. The foundation of the Christian faith is that man is seperated from God by his sin. Christ came and took the punishment for those sins and by believing in Christ and His completed work your sins are forgiven. The Gospel is spread when women and men who are saved put others first and use their lives to tell others about this same forgiveness through Christ. Real Christians use their words and their lives to spread the Gospel. Wars are a result of a fallen world.

After reading through the whole thread about the beheading of Paul Johnson I am stunned at the reactions of so many.

So many who are now more than willing to kill all muslims and the growing hatred toward a faith known as Islam.

I put the original post here to show the actual estimated numbers of Muslims world wide. and I was hoping some would get it

You know it is almost easy to believe that the beheadings of Paul Johnson and Nick Berg were staged to insite the masses against the Muslim population of the world. the effect may have been to cause terror.. but it has done nothing but create anger and hatred toward a faith, A faith that more than a BILLION belong to.

Come on people wake the F' up!

You cannot blame over a billion people for the actions of a few radicals. If we continue down this path humanity as a whole may be just another lost cause in evolution because we are headed toward our own created end.

These beheadings were barbaric and horrific indeed... But they are only two murders in a world that sees thousands of murders everyday. What of them?

If there was a plan to stage beheadings of Americans to make it look like it was Al-Qaeda that did it. and the goal was to insite the masses against these terrorists thus raising the support for war and broader military actions then that plan worked to perfection. And may have gone well beyond the desired outcome.

We humans are a lost cause on this planet if we continue down this path of division and war.

Maybe one day we will kill ourselves off in the impending war of wars. Then at some point in the distant future some alien race of beings will find this world and some evidence that we were once here.

It seems to me that it is primarily the US government that is trying to subtly convince people that all Muslims are terrorists and that Islam is evil. Since the collapse of the USSR the US and indeed the western world has not had a scapegoat and Islam seems to be turning into the new secapegoat for the west.

On to the point of Islam. It is not Islam that is dangerous but fundamentalist Islamics. It is the same for all religions - it is the fundamentalists that are the dangerous ones.

You have Islamic fundamentalists becoming suicide bombers and you have fundamentalist Christians murdering abortion doctors. There are dangerous elements in each major religion. People should remember that.

I have close friends who are muslims and i know people on ATS who are muslims aswell, all of them are friendly, peaceful and intelligent people. Islam is not the enemy, these islamic extremists use the faith to brainwash people to join up and fight. For the final time, Islam is not the enemy here.

from what ive read, the moderate peaceful muslims are actually considered less devout because they selectively ignore the violent hate preaching parts that are in about half the koran. when you find a muslim that is zealous they will tend to follow the koran down to the last word, and thats why you have such anti-nonmuslim attitude amongst these people. according to what ive read of course.

All types of fundamentalism is dangerous. Throughout the middle east, they are jewish and christian fundamentalist groups aswell, but the main stream media tends not to speak about them.

There is nothing wrong with people who are devout to their religion, but its when it turns into fundamentalistic views, thats when things get dangerous.
