Since when have women worn kilts?? (In the age-old Scottish tradition...not talking about Hallowe'en costumes...or female drag...)

All I know is that kilts are entirely Scottish in origin...Even while the Romans were wearing dresses...ur, ummm...togas...the Celts were wearing pants.

If my memory for history serves correctly, I think the Celts were the first (known) society in human history to regularly wear pants...

More than fashion, there was technological development there as well in weaving textiles that made some experimentation possible due to the availability of cloth (linen) where as before are weaving was typically coarse hand woven materials of mostly wool. Whereas development of linen via flax fibers, allowed for tighter weaves.

Also Native American Indians wore pants, in some tribes and areas for thousands of years as well. Typically of the buckskin variety especially in the winter months. Pants were also worn in China (in addition to robes) due to the weaving of silk, which was the finest woven cloth prior to modern textiles and synthetics.

You know why they wear kilts right?
