The solar eclipse, seen by masses of people in Chile, yielded a very interesting statement form one of the spectators :

"We saw a luminous object near here and people started saying they were sure it was a UFO."

I wish there was more in fo on this particular UFO sighting. Surely with everyone thinking it was a UFO there is a multitude of witness. Also, with all of the cameras present it is inevitable that this object was captured on film - video or still photo.

Anyone have more information for us?

Geeze. It's getting bad enough photos don't suffice with the debunking committee and now we have to rely on a mere statement?

I would think photos/videos would've been posted already especially if there were a multitude of them. Oh well.......................
(now watch the CGI-committee take over)

Could this be it?

www.monstersandcritics.com...

Can't make any detail out unfortunately. Maybe any photographers can explain it away...then again people actualy saw this so that rules out image issues.

Thanks for your replies. I wish I hd the images or videos, but I don't. I was hoping the community here would help with research and finding them, since many of us are located in very different parts of the world and have acess to very different things for information.

I would not be suprised if the odd lighting caused by the eclipse made some objexts that are otherwise un-viewable appear. I have no clue as to what they could be, but it is definitely worth us banding together to find out what truth there is behind this.

I know it would be much easier to just have the thing put here for all to see, without anyone doing the leg work, but sometimes it just isn't that easy to find that quickly. Since the event occured just a couple days ago now. Surely there will be images.video available soon - afterall it may take individuals time to get the info uploaded and then for us to find it.

The thing is it seems like some are more eager to prove they dont exist. Even if you had all the evidence in the world it would probably be still torn to shreds. Good luck anyway.

I'd say that Venus is a good option though Sirius would have been blazing away too.

Thanks Phage, that's kinda what I was hinting to with the odd lighting remark, but didn't want to put the idea in anyone's thoughts.

"We saw a luminous object near here and people started saying they were sure it was a UFO."

Could this just be a case of misinterpreting and mistranslating what the witness was saying? I'm presuming that at some point reports were translated from the native Spanish of the witnesses to the english in the articles. It's hard to know what the guy means when he says 'near here'. That's the kind of statement that someone would usually make whilst gesturing with their hands etc. to illustrate what they meant. When he says 'luminous object', that may actually be referring to the start of the eclipse itself. Is it possible he was just describing the way the eclipse looked and how people reacted to it by thinking it was a UFO?

Look at the difference in the original report as posted by the OP and here www.telegraph.co.uk...

and then here www.ufo-blogger.com...

Francisco added : "Total solar eclipse started with a shadow. The sky was perfectly blue, with lots of wind that chased away the clouds. Everyone applauded. "We saw a luminous object near Sun and people (Sky-watchers) started saying they were sure it was a UFO or Ovni."We hope some one will upload the Chile total solar eclipse UFO footage.

The original quote by this Francisco guy seems to have been added to and interpreted differently. Instead of 'near here' we have 'near sun'. We also have him saying he hopes someone will upload UFO footage. It would seem the guys at UFO blogger have expanded on what actually happened.

Re. the photo posted by CX, it's interesting to note there's no mention of the 'UFO' in the caption for that picture. Maybe the photographer and publishers were aware it was something mundane. If the original quote about the UFO is just a mistranslation of events, then it would not be linked at all.

Unless we get other witnesses saying they also saw a UFO at the eclipse, I would be inclined to believe the original report has just misinterpreted the words of Francisco Haoa.

I don't know what that object might be but isn't it unlikely that this object filmed at Easter Island would have been in anyway visible be people in Chile? I think we should keep the original 'UFO' in the report and this photo from Easter Island separate as there is nothing concrete to prove they are linked in any way.

[edit on 13-7-2010 by DrHammondStoat]

Edit to Add, I've just realised that Easter Island is a province of Chile (doh!), so maybe this photo islinked to the quote in the original article. Sorry everyone.

Phage.....

I recall that Venus was photographed previously under such conditions & then used by the notorious hoaxer Jaime Maussan as the basis for another hoax.

Kind regards
Maybe...maybe not

That is a fabulous photograph! The blurred moving light looks like it is in Earth's atmostsphere as the moon and sun appear smaller in the great distance. I don't understand why people can't just accept reality. Life is
stranger than fiction. So many people are sighting these strange objects, and so many others actually photograph them. People who say chinese
lanterns are fools and afraid. Being an osterich doesn't make life under your control. Why wouldn't UFOs want to look at solar/ lunar eclipses, and
volcanos errupting, bridges, dams, fancy architecture, airplanes, etc...?
I know I would.

Of course, you do have a source for that image right?
Odd, there don't seem to be any reports of a UFO from Easter Island which was inundated with visitors. Odd, yours seems to be the only image of a UFO at Easter Island, how lucky you are.

No offense to the OP, but I am sick and tired of these threads posting anecdotal stories. UFO Sighted by the masses.... not one photo or video. How is this even post worthy? News articles are utterly useless unless they corroborate events that took place.
