I drink coffee everyday since I was a child . . . I am familiar with local and international coffee, but this is the first time I hear of Coffee Aphrodisiac

(AP) WASHINGTON (AP) - The Food and Drug Administration on Saturday urged consumers to stop using an instant coffee product that is being marketed as a sexual aphrodisiac, saying it could dangerously lower blood pressure.

In a statement, the FDA said Magic Power Coffee contains a chemical that could interact with some prescription drugs to significantly lower blood pressure. When blood pressure drops suddenly, the brain is deprived of an adequate blood supply, which can lead to dizziness or lightheadedness.

"Because this product is an instant coffee labeled as an 'all natural dietary supplement,' consumers may assume it is harmless and poses no health risk," said Deborah M. Autor, director of FDA's Center for Drug Evaluation and Research, Office of Compliance. "In fact, Magic Power Coffee can cause serious harm."

What is so bad about lowering blood pressure?

Sounds like it has yohimbe root in it. Viagra lowers your blood pressure as well so I don;t know if there's a connection there or not.
Oh well, I hate instant coffee anyway. It is to coffee what masturbation is to sex

It's a scam. Marketed to increase libido and sex drive. "Coffee" supposedly mixed with a variety of herbs, vitamins and minerals. Only marketed through network affiliated sites. Uh huh...

The recall was sent once it was discovered that the product contained an undisclosed ingredient similar to that used in erectile dysfunction prescription medications. There is a potential for serious drug interactions for people who are taking medications for diabetes, high cholesterol and hypertension.

If a substance lowers your blood pressure, how can it be harmful for someone with hypertension? The opposite, I would understand (if it heightened the blood pressure).

I'm not a doctor, but I do realize the potential harm caused by drug interactions, especially caused by undisclosed prescription medications. I would think that would be an obvious concern. No? A search will pull up a lot of information regarding the harm of a sudden drop in blood pressure.

I call BULL. Big Pharm is worried that if people start to drink this thing and find that it gives you a firm trouser support, then why would you spend money on a single pill when you can buy a entire months supply of trouser support for the same price!

So just to be clear - you're okay with a company dispensing a product claiming to be all natural, that contains an undisclosed, regulated, prescription drug ingredient?

Actually I research all the ingredients and the only ingredient that raises a flag is the Goji Berry, it has the same warning as what the FDA is talking about.

I had not idea that Goji Berry can lower blood pressure and sugar.

I take supplements for my cardiovascular health because I have high blood pressure and is not related to weight.

This is very interesting.

Actually I found another side that the person behind the coffee is promising new flavors in the future.

So just keep in touch and perhaps citrus flavor will be next.

This berry has always been considered toxic in the country where I was born.

If, however, it lowers blood pressure and has interesting side effects mentioned in the OP, I need to try that

Actually, is been promoted as a great antioxidant along the lines as American type berries.

Now I believe that is two kind of Goji berries and the ones that has been used since ancient times for well being are from China.

Interesting that where you are from they are considered toxic.

But I have researched in Goji berries by itself and they are sold either as dry berries that you can eat or cook with it like Chinese do and from drinks to pills.

So I am always looking for an alternative to help with my blood pressure to stay away from having to increase my medications.

It's hard to be considered healthy and fit but been plague by high blood pressure, even my scans on the health of my major arteries shows that they are as clean as they can be for my age, still my blood pressure spikes even in medications because the doctor say Is emotional.

Yes, I've seen the ones from China in health food stores. Kinda look like cranberries, a little.

The ED drugs reportedly divert blood from other organs to the genitals.
These are mostly for men.

So your husband better WATCH OUT Marg.

(He'll probably start buying it *for* you. ha.

Yes, that is what the coffee is all about, is sold for both women and men but actually beside the Goji berries acting on blood pressure and sugar the other ingredients in the Coffee is actually like Viagra for men as that is what they target the blood flow to the genital area.

I bought Arginine I take close to 5000 milligrams a day because they act like calcium channel blockers keeping the calcium from the blood and into the bones, calcium channel blockers are prescribed for high blood pressure but they actually target the calcium receptors at the cell level making them eventually fail in their natural process.

Calcium channel blockers were banned from the UK because they are link to sudden death or hart attacks, here in the US they are widely prescribed to treat angina also.

But arginine is also marketed as a great sexual enhancer I have been taking arginine for the last 7 months and to tell the truth I don't feel any different even at the doses I take it.

There is more to that. Vessel dilation also happens in other organs, sometimes even in lungs -- which makes it easier to breathe. I've seen older female skiers at high altitude popping "V" to help them work a challenging slope.

Thanks for bringing this up, I actually on a regime of vitamins and herbs that actually does what you describe, they are all natural vasodillatators all to keep my veins flexible to facilitate blood flow just like most blood pressure medication does without the harmful chemicals.

And yes, Is nice to hear my doctor tell me how great is my lung capacity, as a aerobic enthusiast this helps a lot.

Plus when I get a cold, I am one of those people that can hardly say I get chest congestion or cough.

Thanks, I would do more threads on blood pressure and alternative medicine but many here in ATS are not interested on those topics unless is a government conspiracy attach to them.

I am an amateur connoisseur on subjects like blood pressure and alternative medicine.

Well, this one is easy to solve -- just title the thread "Suppressed knowledge -- what Big Pharma doesn't want you to know about natural ways to cure hypertension" (or ED, whatever rock your boat
).
