Deadly flash floods hit France

Flash floods have killed 25 people and forced scores more from their homes, near France's Mediterranean coast, officials say.

A spokesman from the Var department, where the worst flooding occurred, said on Thursday that the number of dead had risen to 25, adding that the death toll might rise further as floodwaters receded.

More than 350mm of rain fell on the Var department in southern France in a few hours on Tuesday, more than in a typical six-month period.

MEDICINE HAT- Hundreds of residents have been evacuated from parts of Medicine Hat as the city prepares for an "unprecedented" swell of the South Saskatchewan River.

Local fire chief Ron Robinson said a local state of emergency has been declared for the city of 60,000 and some of the 220 residents who have been asked to leave their homes are taking shelter near the Stampede grounds on the outskirts of town.

One neighbourhood near a stream was already flooded by Saturday morning.

At least 88 people have been killed and another 44 are missing in the wake of flooding in southern China over the last week, state media say.

About half a million people have been evacuated because of the flash flooding, caused by heavy rain.

The downpour has swollen rivers including the Pearl river in Guangdong province, a manufacturing hub.

Hmm. Agent_USA says there will be a strange meteor shower which threatens the ISS. NASA says the Draconids might be a danger. Agent_USA says NASA can't be trusted. How's that again?

The Draconids have been seen annually since long before NASA existed.

The discovery of this meteor shower resulted from predictions by several astronomers that the periodic comet 21P/Giacobini-Zinner might produce a radiant in early October.

The first to make such a prediction was M. Davidson, who, in 1915, examined the periodic comets observed since 1892 to isolate any that might be capable of producing meteor showers.

Current meteor forecast models project a strong Draconid outburst, possibly a full-blown storm, on Oct. 8, 2011, according to William Cooke of the Meteoroid Environment Office at NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Ala.

The Draconids do present some risk to spacecraft, Cooke confirmed. They could potentially become the next significant event in low-Earth orbit as far as meteoroids are concerned, he added.

2. Venus
3. Earth
4. Mars
5. Jupiter
6. Saturn
7. Uranus
8. Neptune
9. Pluto (used to be consider a real planet)
10. put in whatever you want in here: planet x, nibiru,.........

I think that building on flood plains thus disrupting regular drainage probably has more to do with this than planet x

In other words, you have no 10 and 9 was dropped from planet status as we learned that it was in fact not a planet.
