Ive been wondering, ever since the oil leak, I havent seen gas prices in my area go up at all. They have actually gone down a little bit. About a
month ago, the price was $2.80 a gallon, and now it's $2.50 a gallon. Is the leak not affecting the gas prices? Has anyone seen the price in their
area go up?
Gas has dropped in my neck of the woods. Seems OPEC is the Scapegoat (well maybe the lesser evil) while wall street actually sets the prices on our
gas. The logical thing would be to ban speculators on wall street but that isn't going to happen.
I actually think the price has been going down every week, or atleast has been for awhile. The only thing I can really think of for the reason the
leak is not affecting the prices is because, the oil is not refined yet, its still crude, so not much effort and money is put into it yet. Im not sure
if thats the reason, but thats really the only thing I can think of at the moment.
this oil spill should have nothing to do
with the price of gas at the pump.
The Horizon Oil Rig was NOT producing
any oil at the time of the explosion.
They were capping the well to trade out
a drilling rig for a pumping rig. So it did
not affect any of the supply at all.
I've been watching it here and it seems to have jumped the last week.
Now granted, granted, I live in a small town in Northern California along I-80, and we are the last real town before you hit Truckee(Tahoe/Reno area),
so our gas is always on the very high end, it hasn't dropped below $3 a gallon in months, but it's $3.40-$3.60 for regular, jumped about 20 cents
the past week.
If the spill occurred and you had an immediate fall-out of higher gas prices, even more attention would be put on the spill. If gas prices are not
higher, you actually see the sign and go 'hey, gas is cheaper, cool'.
If it were the other way around you would be cursing the oil spill and BP and anyone else you could throw some blame on. That and it being the summer
ANY distraction from the spill right now is a welcome one.
