These AM radio numbers stations broadcasting around the world are strange.

What do you think could be going on here?

Some examples of numbers stations.

The Conant project documented and recorded many of these number4s stations.

I believe they use numbers station for spying purposes. In actual fact, several people were convicted of spying for Cuba not long ago in the USA. The FBI used a radio frequency with numbers being spewedas one of their arguments.

Vey interesting stuff though, there are quite a few of these stations around

Do a site search, you'll come up with alot of interesting info, as well as with a general Google search.

We would hear them alot while out in the Indian Ocean all over the HF spectrum. A couple DF fixes had some freqs coming out of Haifa Israel.

And we will never know what any of it means for the most part. They tend to use a daily cipher. With no book on hand for the right day to authenticate and it's useless to speculate on what the phonetic alphabet and numbers even relate to.

here's one from New Mexico:

considering that the Trinity site is in the same fair state, it's really ODD!

Five letter and number groups have been used since before WW2 to communicate coded information. It's being sent around 20 words per minute, easy copy for decent morse operators. They also may be used to check radio propagation, as different bands are used at different times of day. What is the content? Who knows? You'd have to have the code books to decipher it. I'm betting you would find a lot of the radio gear in Embassies around the world. Just look for the HF antenna.
