Reading through the threads, people arguing back and forth about the pentagon footage, and thought you know what would make a great 9/11 Mythbusters that would clear up one gigantic argument...

Take the same two cameras that the security gate was using on 9/11 and get some pilot to fly a 757 with a AA paint scheme on the same flight path (distance from camera, altitude, and speed) as f77 on a bright sunny day and see what the videos look like. Maybe attach a smoke streamer for even more accuracy and see if it all matches the original 9/11 security gate videos.

What do you think? Would we get the big myth BUSTED or myth CONFIRMED?

On one of their recent 'Viewers Choice' episodes, they addressed why they have not done a 9/11 themed episode. They remarked that 9/11-themes are some of the most-requested themes on their boards. They said that the way they go about mythbusting (jovial, happy, screwing around) was a very bad fit for the 9/11 myths, AND that they were staying away from it out of respect.

Sounds about right. I cant blame them. Either way, they lose. People are so absolutely convinced of what they believe happened that day that even with cold hard facts to shove in their face they still will cry about everything they can. Better just to leave it to the idiots on the internet to battle it out with our pseudo-credentials and grainy youtube videos.

Why don't they create two buildings the twin towers, and get two planes to fly into them.

It makes sense. Let's just re-create the whole disaster. Maybe they should re-create the taliban, Osama, Bush, etc... etc... while they are at it.

Yeah, it makes perfect sense.

Let's do it!

I just can't believe that the pentagon one of the most secure buildings in the world one has one camera angle on the plane hitting the building. If that was the case then an army could walk in there and take the place over in a matter of minutes. This is all such Bu#!

Wait, so if the Mythbusters come up with conclusive evidence it's actually going to be the only reasonable explanation for the September 11 attacks because they're on television?

Damn.

Mythbusters won't touch 9/11 because they know they will fail to convincingly debunk the conspiracy theory.

A missile hit the pentagon and they know it.

Aren't there a bunch of practically empty skyscrapers in Dubai which "somebody" could be doing tests with?

I remember reading on the Mythbusters show's official forums regarding 9/11 myths. They are not allowed to do any of them. Its either their producers or the Discovery channel that prohibit them doing so, I'm not sure. The fact remains they will never touch a 9/11 conspiracy.

Would we get the big myth BUSTED or myth CONFIRMED?

Mythbusters has demonstrated a tendancy to skew things towards a politically correct view. Even if they could not "bust" a theory, they would present it in such a way as to lead people to belive they had.

For some examples, consider Episode 54: Crimes and Mythdemenaors. As shown in this clip, they very clearly demonstrate that it's very easy to bypass a motion sensor, and Kari is able to get through it succesfully via multiple methods.

So what result do they give it?

Busted.

Why? Because they claim they "busted the myth" that motion sensors are reliable. And of course, if they had failed to bypass it they would have "busted" the myth that people can get through motion detectors.

They frequently make use of this sort of symantics in order to give politically correct results.

They also occassionally go about things in deliberately difficult ways to get the result they want. For example, in that same episode, they make a huge production of climbing through an airduct, building elaborate suction and magnetic devices they can use to fail to climb through...when probably even the totally average computer geek could have climbed through it with no equipment whatsoever.

Mythbusters is the epitome of pseudoscience. If they did a 911 special and concluded it was CD it would actually be detrimental to truth.

Relax pal, it was a rhetorical question not a literal plea to the "sit down with the family" Mythbuster's show to do a 9/11 episode(even though reading it over again now, I realize it might sound that way).

I was just wondering if a Mythbuster's style, recreation and test of the cameras would put to rest the Pentagon video footage arguments.

I think it's pretty much common knowledge Mythbuster's wouldn't touch the whole 9/11 subject with a ten foot pole. I guess any reason to flame though, is as good as another, right?

Now, you see? THIS is exactly why any such 9/11 review on, "Mythbusters" won't go anywhere, even if they did do one. Eyewitnesses around the Pentagon all saw that it was a passenger jet that hit the Pentagon. Aircraft wreckage strewn all over the grounds and inside the building all show it was a passenger jet that hit the Pentagon. Even the black box was recovered and it showed it was flight 77 that hit the PEntagon. Yet, to these people, all of that is wrong and these "missile hit the Pentagon" stories are right becuase...some idiot over in France wrote a book telling them a missile hit the Pentagon.

People have become so much in love with all this conspiracy trash that they actually WANT them to be true. You can see right away this is happening when the conspiracy people start inventing all sorts of goofball accusations off the tops of their heads on how all the eyewitnesses were secret gov't disinformation agents, the wreckage was dropped onto the lawn by following planes, the bodies of the passengers were hidden in the Pentagon closets beforehand, etc., and I know you've all seen these claims at one time or another. It's nothing but runaway circular logic, so at this point you might as well try to convince the pope of evolution.

Besides, Mythbusters already tore the "moon landing was a hoax" claims to shreds with right-in-your-face explanations that can't be refuted, and yet the "moon landing was a hoax" zealots are still clinging to their conspiracy claims, accusing the Mythbuster people of being "gov't apologists" who are "afraid to reveal the truth that the moon landings were staged". Who here will think the 9/11 conspiracy people will be any more intellectually honest, raise your hands.

Mythbusters Toast 1/2 Ton of Thermite

They actually did inadvertently debunk the thermite myth....This is a pretty cool experiment.

enjoy!

Ah yes, but it's not the extra super nano-thermite paint

There was also a better related test of thermite more recently (National Geo?) where they piled thermite around a steel column to see if it could possibly sever the column which, of course, it didn't. People are too entrenched in their conspiracy ideas by now to ever change their minds regardless of the quality of testing procedures.

True dat! No matter, even if the na-nu-na-nu therm*te was proven NOT to cut steel...they would find another chemical to do the job in their fantasy.

Mythbusters is a story used to get ratings on a TV station nothing more.

Now combine 911 and Mythbusters and you get a foul episode. It would make both sides of the fence mad, in a area that is beyond sensitive to begin with.

They don't want to kill ratings do they? You don't make money by pissing off the Sponsors, then they leave with their money and the show goes busted [pun intended].

It does them no good to touch 911.

But anyway, they couldn't debunk one of the 911 myths, it would take a huge production and they have to lie again anyway!
