Hi fellow members of ATS!
I saw a thread recently about the g-men poking around on C/T sites.
How's this to corroborate that thread?
Any thoughts?

WASHINGTON (March 26) -- A Justice Department document asks the simple question: Why Go Undercover on Facebook, MySpace, etc.?

Then it goes on to explain: "Communicate with suspects/targets" ... "gain access to non-public info" ... "map social relationships/networks."

The document, part of a Justice Department PowerPoint presentation, demonstrates how some federal and local law enforcement agents are quietly creating fictitious accounts on social networks like Facebook and MySpace to get dirt on suspected criminals. The presentation recently surfaced in a Freedom of Information Act lawsuit in a San Francisco federal court.

NOOOOOOOOOO. Runs and hides. That is why the Kernel has only contacts that he knows. The Kernel's wife got him hooked on a game.

I used to visit both sites religiously before I was awakened to the links to the real world we know and love as ATS.

I hope to see a positive outcome come from this blatant privacy infringement.

I wonder about things though...

"And he causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a texting device in their right hand, or a headset across their foreheads: And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had a Facebook account, or a MySpace account, or the number of his name."

So this is old news?!
Oh wait, for people who don't already know any different?
OK. Then I devote this thread to our younger generation that already knows ever thing...

What better way to alert TPTB to areas of great unrest within the great unwashed

than to tell it direct to an agent whose job it is to report ?

What better way to get the messages through ?

It's a golden opportunity

"Interestingly, the Internal Revenue Service provided a document in the San Francisco lawsuit that states employee guidelines for the Internet. "You cannot obtain information from websites by registering ... fictitious identities," the document said."

"I think it's interesting the IRS has drawn the line, and the Justice Department has not," the Electronic Frontier Foundation's Hofmann said."

Hmmm?

I don't even care who it is. Facebook is where I pass time, playing games, and saying hello to my peeps, no personal info is there, no banking info or any other finacial stuff, no talk about anything other than games and hellos. There is absolutely nothing incriminating on my facebook page.

Ouch. The Kernel accepts that rebuke. My apologies. Yes, the digital age isn't the Kernel's.

What does it matter who is on FB?

Don't allow access to the profile anyone other than those you know.

Don't post or allow others to post any information you would not tell the world.

If you are a fugitive, don't get on FB.

Simple.

Well, I am about half and half on this, while I see it as not only an invasion of privacy and a violation of "illegal search and seizure", I do understand it and I say good.

I say good because I have nothing to hide and I post my ATS threads on my FaceBook.

As far as I am concerned the Federal Government can watch whatever they want.

I'm doing nothing other than what is guaranteed to me by the United States Constitution.

Awesome subject
but it's been discussed here before, a few times this month.
Thanks for posting, though!

Facebook was created by people in the CIA. You don't have privacy from the government over that network. It is likely that every public forum on the web has computers running key logging software waiting for a dangerous word to be typed. Here's a link to a youtube video that explains how Facebook was developed.

why bother profileing the mass's? they do a better job themselves on facebook.

why bother with surveilance? just check their twitter.

u know I find this infiltration technique
redundant when they have computer systems
that can read everything u type on ur puter
and every word u say on the phone.
Why would they need to go to networking sites?
When they get the same info from the horses mouth
so to speak. I think it's just a junior g-man
project to keep the rookies busy and out
of the loop of the projects of Echelon and Carnivore.
But I've been wrong before

Dangit!
Thanks. I didn't bother to search whether it has been covered here yet. I figured it was a fresh piece of news.

Yup, I paste ATS thread links there myself.
I guess alot of my friends like to be blissfully unaware of this blessed rabbit-hole.

I even have a friend on myspace that says he got banned from ATS.

Sorry sir,
I appreciate the apology, but it is not necessary.

This is such a police state we live in these days, I can't understand why there is no public outcry to get some privacy and rights back.

Cant drive down the road without being recorded, can't update your fb status without letting them know what you're doing.

I don't do anything illegal, but it still bothers me.

I agree with everything you say.

And I agree that fugitives need to be brought to justice.

I'm just going to go through that airport screener now and let everybody

see just how big of ba77s I got, because I'm free to pursue happiness, and

liberty. Morocco is beautiful I hear, maybe Petra, I don't know.

Please don't take offense to that profane sentence, it's meant for the g-men

lurking.
