China should build a larger military and challenge American power says senior PLA official.

China should build the world's strongest military and move swiftly to topple the United States as the global "champion," a senior Chinese PLA officer says in a new book reflecting swelling nationalist ambitions.

The call for China to abandon modesty about its global goals and "sprint to become world number one" comes from a People's Liberation Army (PLA) Senior Colonel, Liu Mingfu, who warns that his nation's ascent will alarm Washington, risking war despite Beijing's hopes for a "peaceful rise."

"China's big goal in the 21st century is to become world number one, the top power," Liu writes in his newly published Chinese-language book, "The China Dream."

"If China in the 21st century cannot become world number one, cannot become the top power, then inevitably it will become a straggler that is cast aside," writes Liu, a professor at the elite National Defense University, which trains rising officers.

His 303-page book stands out for its boldness even in a recent chorus of strident Chinese voices demanding a hard shove back against Washington over trade, Tibet, human rights, and arms sales to Taiwan, the self-ruled island Beijing claims as its own.

"As long as China seeks to rise to become world number one ... then even if China is even more capitalist than the U.S., the U.S. will still be determined to contain it," writes Liu.

So... now some leading Chinese officials openly state they want to challenge the US to the game of global dominance. They believe they are the capitalist country and they will defeat America. Let's play this game, bring it on China. All it takes is us to raise our tariffs on your trashy items and you will drop, of course you will hurt us too but we will recover. You won't, so bring it on!

Havent we had enough of bullies poking each other with sticks to see who is more stupid??
Perhaps instead of wasting money on building bigger military capacity, we should instead work together to improves everyones lives.

It is very easy to play games and talk about armies fighting each other over nonsense, when you are sitting in your warm comfortable home. If You are so gung ho, why are you not joining the army and off killing commies? I am certain that if you had ever been involved in military violence you would have learned to temper your views into something more rational. Wars do not solve the issues we face. They tend to cause them.

China would do far better to spend their income on scientific endeavors, such as their increasing interest in alternative energy, than to simply buy more bullets.

It's not a matter of 'if" China overtakes the US .

It's a matter of "when".

Why are you so scared of that prospect?

What would probably be best for the whole situation is if the US stops with the threatening foreign policy and reverted from Imperialistic policy, the EU copped itself on and got its security forces up and running properly, the Middle East wasn't continuously used as a battlefield and China was brought to the table as a Global Partner in security while India is used to counter it to an extent..

But guess which Power is not going to allow quite a bit of that to happen without threatening widespread wars.. Yup.. the USofA.

Its not China that is the problem..

Find me one super power that has not been defeated...

Might be "one", but the number rarely ever goes up and always goes down.

History.

Its sad that this tactic still works on people. Challenge someone on a global scale and they are ready to go into a war, bringing pain and misery to millions of people who today are living ordinary lives.

United States would most likely rather suicide itself and take the world with it if attacked. Its ironic that they condemn that attitude in suicide bombers when they would do exactly the same if they were in their shoes.

If I could say anything to China is that if you want to become a Superpower and to undermine the Wests greed than adopt a non monetary system. If you could make goods in a county for nothing and the only payment is a percentage of goods where would you take your business too?

The Chinese have their own flavor of neo-cons there. They are always yapping about something.

If there is a war in between China and the USA, it will start with a bio-weapon, and end with the Chinese invading the US for territory promised by some politician as a payment for national debt.

As long as a lot people die, the masters will get there wish. China will have to go to the central banks to borrow money for the war, the bankers sit on their islands waiting for the dust to clear enjoying their 2 for 1 deal.

America's armed populace is an threat to any global government. So what if if take 350 million chinese troops to get the job done, that's about how many people work for a dollar a day there, offer them $2 and the spoils of war from invading the US.

Destroy the armed people of USA, now you've got a battleground to train and harden your merc army to take out the rest of the holdouts.

The Brass on both sides will be in on it. It's a pretty lame story actually.

Haven't we had enough unneeded wars and death because of the stupidity and immaturity of global leaders?

It's good to see that other countries have their lunatics as well. What more does this guy want? We've given China our entire manufacturing base, just about. The only heavy industry we have left is.. let's see... nuclear aircraft carriers, submarines, warplanes, missiles...

If we wanted to contain them, we'd simply close all our WalMarts and cripple their economy.

China doesn't really need to challenge the US to be #1, they just need to wait patiently doing it own business and let the US undo itself... and based on results.... its working!!! why spend resource to challenge another country for #1 when that #1 country is shooting itself in the foot?

Remember, china owns alot of the US debts so they are stacking everything to there advantage, just like when a credit card company take on you're debts THEY OWN YOU cause YOU OWE THEM, and that's why you get up every morning to go to work and pay the credit card bills.

Everything should kick in when the depression starts in the US (that when the stimulus will run out) china will just step in and then play Simon says, except it will be called China says...
