I guess this all depends on where you choose to divide people into categories of "child" and "adult." This is a question that has no straight answer, but we have to draw the line somewhere, which I suppose is one reason we have laws.

The age of 18 is an arbitrary cut-off point between non-adulthood and adulthood, as far as I know (if anyone knows this not to be the case, please correct me). Moral indignation at the thought of a person who is one day shy of her 18th birthday taking her clothes off for money makes little sense if your opinion about that person's behavior changes the following day.

Comparing a 17-year-old to a 7-year-old in terms of sexuality is semi-brainless, emotion-driven rhetoric that also makes little sense. People in general are completely mature sexually by age 17, while people in general are sexually immature at age 7. This is not to say that just because a person is sexually mature it's necessarily a great idea that she should be taking her clothes off in front of groups of people in a sexy fashion. But how about some intelligent, unemotional discourse here? I'll try to start you off:

"I don't think a 17-year-old girl should be allowed to strip in a nudie bar because..."

or conversely,

"I think 17-year-old girls should be able to strip in nudie bars because..."

And remember, not everyone who disagrees with you is a prude or a pedophile. Some people in this world, for whatever reason, just don't think exactly like you do.

If the laws dictates that women modelling for porn mags movies etc be of a certain age then it is fair and logical to be said for strippers. I think 18 in in america isnt it? Then she shouldnt be legally allowed to do it imo

perhaps because a 7 year old has not reached sexual maturity? its still physically very much a child. a 17 year old girl is physically a woman, no longer a child.

Oh now don't be ridiculous. Now you're offending small breasted females.

The 7 year olds are perfect examples of youthful vigor and natural beauty.

Why not allow them to strip? Come on and tell us all. Why not??

There's a big (no pun intended) between a woman with small breasts or slender curves, and a seven year old child.

If you can't tell the difference, well... Maybe you might want to check into that, seriously. 'Cause either way you're going on that is a bad road.

But what if it is not all about sex, which is what you people seem to think?
What if it is just about natural beauty?

Are you going to tell a 7 year old she isn't pretty? She's not an attractive little girl? Why you'll crush her and ruin her self esteem!

Little girls need your attention and here you are being prejudice and terribly nasty in voicing your opinion that you don't want to see 7 year olds. How perfectly awful.

And besides, who are you to tell some other guy what he can and can not like? Aren't we supposed to accept others and live a harmonious multi-cultural existence?

You are sounding very hypocritical with your anti-7-year-old positions!!

Last I checked this thread was about the Seventeen (17) year old age limit for nude dancing otherwise known as stripping.

Your the only one talking about 2nd graders here, to help you with your fixation you can find Little Miss Perfect dancing girls there.

Right. I think 17 year olds should not be stripping. But Little Miss Perfect?!
Now if we could set up a full body scanner like at the airport we'd be on to something, huh? Imagine how much money would change hands on that deal. I mean if the whole place is going against my wishes and recommending 17 year olds then why not 7 year olds? That's what I want to know. How dare you disallow the 7 year olds from participating in what is simply and all natural event. It is unheard of!

Dude, why so insistent on the 7 year old? Do you really think a state would even think of allowing such a thing?

I know you are trying to make a point but the age you quote isn't working.

Realistically, many graduate at 17 and are in college or working. Some already have kids by this age. Some emancipate from their parents. Some run away. In a way, many are already living life as an adult.

BTW, last I checked, strip bar was about sex.

Then you would probably love our 7 year old strippers... you wanna come see the 7 year olds?
They're amazing, and they don't even expect $10's and $20's because candy is cheap!
You can have a great time and not spend as much.

It's a win/win situation, right?

I mean it's only natural, right?

A 7 year old is not sexually mature. A 17 year old is sexually mature.

And let's say it's your 17 year old 'sexually mature' daughter up there on the pole giving all the menfolk a 'vertical smile'... You still feel the same???

It would serve me right for not being able to care for her and not teaching her self-respect. This isn't a personal issue, it is a question of logic and law.

Why do you think strippers lack self respect?

My point is, 18 is an arbitrary bench mark, who decided the age???

a young person can go to IRAQ, get blown to chunks, but can't have a beer.

I don't advocate a 7 year old BTW, a 17 year old can usually have children, not sure where my thresh hold is...

Well not all strippers lack self respect, but a lot of them do.

I guess it depends on the venue in which the girl is stripping. If it is a classy place, and the girl enjoys the attention, then there is plenty of self respect. If she is doing it to fund a drug addiction (like many strippers do) then it is a different story.

OK, let me rephrase... Just because someone is Sexually Mature does not mean that they are Emotionally Mature, nor does it mean that they are Legally Mature... Sorry, but this is just wrong...

In the handful I've known, my wife included, it was about taking advantage of the situation. A lot of money can be had from men seeking to fulfill their sexual desires.

So long as it's not prostitution, I don't see a problem with taking large sums of money from single men, excited college kids and bad husbands.

As for the OP, it seems a lot of people ignored an earlier post saying this story was two years old. It's kind of a weird topic, one day you're illegal and can't do anything, the next you're not and free to do as you please. At the same time, why not just wait until you're of 'legal' age?

It starts to get into the realm of asking 'when is a child mature enough to do x, y, or z?' Notice I said mature and not old. I've known mature 13 year olds and a whole lot of immature 20 year olds.
