This seems to confirm my previous understanding of these devices, based on my background in medical imaging & medical radiation.

I don't believe these devices are dangerous from a radiation perspective.

They may not be dangerous from an ionizing radiation perspective but what about the danger express by non-ionizing radiation in OP's article? Remember terahertz radiation is non-ionizing.

We consider the influence of a terahertz field on the breathing dynamics of double-stranded DNA. We model the spontaneous formation of spatially localized openings of a damped and driven DNA chain, and find that linear instabilities lead to dynamic dimerization, while true local strand separations require a threshold amplitude mechanism. Based on our results we argue that a specific terahertz radiation exposure may significantly affect the natural dynamics of DNA, and thereby influence intricate molecular processes involved in gene expression and DNA replication.

G'day Iamonlyhuman

I'll ask my daughter for an opinion.....& she's got plenty of those!

She studies molecular biology with a strong emphasis on DNA biology.

I'll get back to you.

Why can't they just use dogs? Is that too low tech? They have dogs that can sniff out cancer. I guess you would have to pay someone a salary, then.

Because we're all used to dogs, sort of. Having a dog around sniffing things isn't quite as obtrusive as say photo'eque images of our genatalia and so on privacy. These scanners are the sheep dogs of the Brave New World.

Didn't know dogs could sniff out cancer.

Maybe...maybe not, with your background in radiology etc. tell us which one it is that need radioactive Iodine which just may Destroy your Salivary Glands and/or Your Tear Glands.

Did they ever test this stuff on live animals of any sort? Or are humans the test subjects?
What about infants and children? Do they get zapped too?

Why use sniffer dogs when this new machine is so much more fun?
Bet they have 100’s of people lined up for the job.

Yes, dogs can sniff out Cancer. They are also used as early warning systems for people who have seizures. The dog can tell when one is coming on.

what`s ironic about the reason why they are going to implement these machines in all airports,is to be one step ahead of the "terrorists" when the young nigerian scrotum bomber got through security, boarded the plane without a passport and also being on the no fly terrorist watch list

Hmm. You sounded as if the authority on this stuff. But come again we'll all be waiting for her opinion on the effects of terahertz waves on human biology. Thing is, according the the study, scientific understanding in terahertz is just now becoming not only clear, but relevant.

Right. Just like 9/11: They had the "tools" to stop it but failed so miserably that anyone with reason that has taken enough time looking at the pre-911 timeline could hardly come to a conclusion other than they deliberately allowed it to happen (at best).

So now the Panty Bomber 'slips thru the cracks' of international air travel and its time for airport lackeys to see our most intimate details. They'd probably suggest we all go it naked from now on but that might cause a population explosion while motivating people to be more healthy, and if we all embraced being naked in public they'd lose part of their desired results in subjecting us to this assanine big brother nightmare.

Sorry....I didn't mean to sound "full of it"!

I'll read up on the terrhertz DNA issue, but I don't know if that will fall within my areas of knowledge.

It all gets so specialised!

I have to go out for a few hours.

the elite have no problem with these potential dangerous full body scanners for their flights take place on private chartered jets.

Again, the elite profess they know better for all yet the lives the opposite.

My theory is this, whatever you are doing it is guaranteed the elite is doing the opposite.

Therefore, though you may think you own your house, car, et cetera...the elite are in control.

The evidence that terahertz radiation damages biological systems is mixed. "Some studies reported significant genetic damage while others, although similar, showed none,"

This is like saying egg yokes are bad for you one week and then saying that they are an essential part of your diet for a healthy lifestyle the next.

Now, the rest of my post may seem to become more vague and stray away from the topic, but you will be sure to understand my point in the end.

There will always be that "what if" fear within humans. It all just comes down to whether you will let the "fear" rule your life around your self contained virtual plastic bubble OR you will allow the experts make the scientifically proven decisions to move forward.

Yes the pendulum swings a little too far left some days, and sure, nothing is ever full proof. But if we sat and analyse to death, over and over, every single little thing we do in life as a species we would still be living in mud huts and deficating in the community bathing holes.

This is by no means an attack on your person, but are you Conservative? Just saying.
If you have a better solution to the said issue, why not study both sides and come to a just conclusion without bringing your emotions into it instead of reiterating someone elses OPINION... . Remember, most ideas are put in place to protect us from failure, but every once in a while, that small percentage of failed ideas can slip through the cracks. Us humans are, by no means, perfect. BUT at least we try.

Look at it this way..... Lets say you, alone, have been ordered to make an immediate decision as to the fate of your individual existance and you had limited time to be forthright with your decision. Tic Toc Tic Toc. Feel the pressure? What do you decide?

Honestly, if we don't step up, keep up with technology, and adapt to our changing society we might as well just step aside and be taken over by advancing nations.

SCIENCE AND MATH will finally be a priority again. YES, it is expensive, but unless you are one of those who, with an iron fist, can dictate what profit margins the corporate fat cats get, plan to pay out the ass for the luxury of precious technology. Maybe if we controlled the profit margins, we COULD finally afford to TEST THE # out of everything to the Nth degree, effectively, efficiently and timely and not have to worry about those silly "what if's".

Ohhh GOODNESS, what a conundrum we have on our hands. Hmmmm.... What to do....What to do!!!

It's human nature to be FEARFUL, but it is also human nature to fight for your existence. If you don't.... Someone else will race to the finish for their own.

Alot of quotes come to mind

Survival of the fittest
The early bird catches the worm
Either S@#$ or get off the pot

Why do you think the OLYMICS are such a popular event. Because, it is the proven test of a humans will to succeed.

That being said.... Someone has to control the games or someone is sure to cheat. Soooo....Who do you think is worthy of such a task.... Really think about that one. Potentially Greedy Corporations? OR a "so called" Corrupt Government? (which is the lesser of two evils) Damn.... Yet another conundrum. YOU DECIDE!!! NOT "Later, I need more time to think about it"..... NOW!!! You better be right, because someone is ready to point the finger at you if you were wrong.

FIGHT OR FLIGHT. YOU DECIDE.

Sooo.... Is the full body scan measure worth a try? I need to know now.... Not tomorrow. Because tomorrow we may not be so lucky. What do you think... Proven preventative technology? Humiliating strip searches? or HECK, lets just go back to trusting our, flawed by human error, authorities? Are you kidding me??? Not another conundrum...Geeeesh!!!

That is like saying that half of the studies reported on the healthful effects of THz, while the other half studied the harmfull effects. Please do give us the detailed listing of the positivie and negative health affecting components of these rays.

I'm electronics engineering and I had no idea the effects of these rays. Doesn't seem many people in the world have even looked into them as they seem to just now be rising to actual relevance. I'd bet cosmic rays are more well understand many times over, and I'm not so sure anyone truly knows them in and out to all areas of understanding.

of course, just take an EMF detector with you the next time your near one of those machines... lol

See what readings you get off of it...

Anything that can eliminate the shroud of clothing, has to have some pretty strong penetrating powers...

also, just use some common sense... this machine is bombarding your body with rays, powerful enough to eliminate the veil of your clothing, do the math...
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I was always joking about the Movie Superman, and i'd always love to talk about how impossible it would be to have a "Superman" exist and not harm you just being around him... Something that powerful and Alien would not be good for a normal person to exist near.

I'd say things like, well if a Superman could emit X-Ray Radiation from his eyes to "X-Ray" solid objects, that radiation would definately be harmful to the people around him.

And that with his ridiculous strength, just by him flexing his muscles he'd disrupt electronics, and emit energy waves harmful to organic life.

If he farted he could probably shatter windows for miles, or create earthquakes.

Interesting and fun comparison. Following PreyBird's logic, it might be better for you to be exposed to this creature, like eggs are more good for you to eat than are worse even thouth we lack data suggesting any actual potential benefits.

Ya...what was that all about.... Thank you. LOL (my mouth was full of sweet delicious pizza at the time)

In my opinion, I think, YES, both government and corporate industry are both faulty and that the people should be the ones to decide. BUT, both are waaay over their heads with an ever increasing population of independant thinkers. GOOD and BAD ones. Sooo... what do you do, let everyone be selfishly responsible for themself (human nature) and just say "F@#$ it!!! You are on your own"? OR Send in the cleaners? Be sure if you chose the former, the bad guys win. (Bad guys meaning all extremist organizations....like...the Catholic church, al queda, 1%er motorcycle organizations, Neo-nazi white pride groups, selfish drug quartels, etc.)

It's too far gone.... We have to limit all to control the few. What other choice do we have really? If someone doesn't do it... someone else will. Right? Until the world learns to live in harmony "without fear of loss" it will always need to be controlled.

Whatever the elite have up their sleeves, be sure that all preventative measures will eventually have to be put in place to avoid total collapse.

Will their plan work? I don't know...and neither do you. Even if little lies have to be told to get people on board, a plan is well underway to bring down all radical thinkers. A new global government and religion? Who knows??? I am leaning towards SCIENTIFIC TRUTH with a hint of fresh religious undertones. OR starting over from scratch with a limited few.

All I can say is.... My hands are tied and so are everyone elses.... So it better be believable, because this one AIN'T working.

As for your comment

And thats why you want some federal bureacrats to see your 'junk'.

I didn't say I wanted them but I really don't care who can see my junk.... I was born without clothes on dude. It's not like they would intentionally hire a petophile to do the job. Do you have any quams about your doctor seeing or touching your junk? Do you know even if his PRIVATE (see what I did there..LOL) practice has been profiled to verify whether or not he or she is a sexual deviant? Of course not.... So why care?

Another

Sounds like you're discussing paranoid sheeple begging for thse scanners. Don't stay in your self-contained privacy bubble, al qaeda is out tehre in the shadows somewhere and big brother needs your most intimate details.

Really? Intimate details? That is the problem with our society..... We are so insecure about ourselves (corporate media driven by the way), that we have lost all self esteem.
Why do you think porn site are becoming more and more accessible now... I think it is to condition people that it is what it is.... A boob is a boob, an arse is an arse, sex is sex. Get over it.

I honestly wouldn't mind seeing both the extremist muslim faith and extremist christians faith both just finally exterminate one another completely. They are holding on too tight. One is no better than the other. And that comment is coming from the mouth of a Mason!? Oh my goodness.

You make some valid observations but I have to share..... I don't have the answers to your quest for information regarding the affects of full body scans, and apparently you don't either. So what is the real fuss? Search for the truth? I search every day.... but I also take time to let go from time to time and just let some things be. Not everybody has an agenda.... sometimes they are just providing solutions. I stand by my moto, but every once in a while I do have to use our given talents of instinct and common sense.

What exactly are you even AFRAID of here?

What they have in mind is total control of every facet of your life, and all of the preventive measures needed to ensure that you can never take back your freedom and prosperity.

The problem with people like you is you see in narrow tunnel vision, switching from tunnel to tunnel as you look out for perspective in complex multi-faceted issues. For instance, "intimate" can only mean you 'junk'. This is merely the most obscene yet of the growing surveillance grid monitoring and chronicling our every move, and every line of communication.

'We have to stop this menacing threat (that represents about maybe 1,000th of one percent of the population), therefore everyone needs to walk around naked wearing headsets that monitor and broadcast their GPS position and all words spoken and toughts thought because the fearmongering technocratic scientist and political overlords says so, and besides, its possible, therefore it represents progress.'

Nice try.

It's not like they would intentionally hire a petophile to do the job.

Neither would a church.

Do you have any quams about your doctor seeing or touching your junk?

You're out of control, for being controlled. So now airport screener security gaurds get basically the same privacy access as your professional physician, and you see no difference. Are you just aruging in here for the sake of arguing? I'll bet its also necessary for the government and military to push for ever increasing access to private medical data, to stop (who?)?

Do you know even if his PRIVATE (see what I did there..LOL) practice has been profiled to verify whether or not he or she is a sexual deviant?

They lose their licenses. They have a lot more to lose. They can be busted by their patients.

You make no sense. First they're programming us to be unconfident (they are), but then they're programming us not to care.

I honestly wouldn't mind seeing both the extremist muslim faith and extremist christians faith both just finally exterminate one another completely. They are holding on too tight. One is no better than the other. And that comment is coming from the mouth of a Mason!? Oh my goodness.

G'day again IgnoranceIsntBlisss

I've read the MIT article you posted.

I've discussed this topic with my daughter & reviewed several peer reviewed journal articles pertaining to the development of THz radiation imaging technology.

As a close analogy to the scanning application, I've taken particular note of the clinical applications development for imaging very superficial skin lesions, noting THz radiation will not penetrate very far at all.....hence the superficial dermal application.

The THz radiation for this application is produced by lasers & could be thought of as somewhat analogous to a new skin-imaging technology with which I am involved called optical coherence imaging (OCT), insofar that it also uses imaging lasers & experiences some of the same penetration limitations.

My conclusion (or if you prefer to put it...my opinion) is this technology as applied in the airport scanners is not going to be a health hazard because:

- The power levels are so incredibly low

- The penetrative ability is extremely compromised

- The papers tend to support the notion the technology is harmless.

I don't think I can post the papers here. I have read them via my daughter's journal subscriptions & I would have to pay to download the papers.

I certainly don't presume this to be the "last word" on this topic, as THz imaging is not within my areas of imaging knowledge & experience.

However, I have posted this in case anybody finds it of interest & to present an argument "against" the position of most poeple on this thread.

So, I'll bet most people on this thread are going to disagree with me when I say I believe it's harmless.

Kind regards

In response to your "radioactive iodine" question...

Here is a patient information pamphlet from a very reputable imaging group:

www.canberraimaging.com.au...

It's not the radiation dose that's the problem, it's the iodine:

From the patient information pamphlet:

Side Effects
Radioactive iodine treatment has a few side
effects, and these occur infrequently:
A sore throat may occur a few days after the treatment,
which can be treated with Panadol.
Rarely, the salivary glands may swell, which is caused
by the iodine and not the radioactivity. Sucking hard
lollies for a few days may prevent this.
Mild nausea may develop for a few hours after the
iodine is taken, so it is best not to eat for 4 hours
before and 1 hour after the iodine administration.

This is a well established diagnostic / therapautic modality that has been proven over many, many years.

I did some further reading & I consulted with one of my clinical staff. We know of no other imaging contrast media that has a negative affect on the salivary glands or the tear glands.

If you want more specific information, U2U me & I'll see if I can direct you to some relevant reading material.

I'd better get back on topic now - thanks for your patience, mods!

Kind regards
Maybe...maybe not
