thanks gordie, i too am a drummer. so dang 37 deaths... i was wondering why they were closing down the whole country for 3 weeks... thought that seemed kinda harsh if it were just 1 death from swine flu ... spooky
All the American MSM are reporting just ONE death from H1N1!

I was going to call BS on that video as in most of it, they make it sound like there are just calling it H1N1. Then at the very end, they make it clear they do not know what the 37 deaths are from.

There are officially 4 deaths of the swine flu in Ukraine. Isn't it disproportionated to close all cinemas, schools concerts, and forbid public gatherings

Fear mongering at its finest.

Next step : another country ? Maybe the reason why obama declared an emergency ?

I noticed that also, nothing better but for big pharma to catch out on the scare moment running in that nation.

But even if the out brake is pneumonia plague they will tagged H1N1 because pneumonia is one of the side effects even when pneumonia by itself does it fair share of damage every year without the swine flu to help.

That is why most of the deaths been counted in the US are tagged to complications rather than direct h1n1 infection.

I looked this up on RSOE EDIS and found this:

Seven flu deaths have been reported in the Ternopol region, the only Ukrainian area having a flu epidemic, head of the regional health department Bogdan Onyskiv told a Tuesday press conference. Doctors explained the deaths of young and physically fit persons with flu complications. The flu epidemic in western Ukraine started two weeks ago, yet the type of the virus is still unknown. “It is possible to name the type of the flu only in ten days. Ukrainian and British doctors are making tests. The final results will be announced once a London laboratory confirms them,” Onyskiv said. The Ternopol region has over 10,000 flu cases. Public events are prohibited, and 109 schools with 42,000 students are under quarantine. Experts explain the early cold and flu outbreak with a sharp drop of temperatures a week before the beginning of the heating season. The region did not have flu epidemics for the past five or seven years. The local residents had no immunity from flu. An increase of the cold and flu rate was reported from all the Ukrainian regions, but the situation is generally stable, a source at the Ukrainian Health Ministry said. The rate is high in Chernigov, Lvov, Kiev, Vinnitsa, Dnepropetrovsk, Donetsk, Zaporozhye and Kharkov.

From what I see under the situation update, is it could be H1N1, or seasonal, they just don't have test results back yet.

thanks mike, hope this is hyped over nothing cause being halloween and all... just a tad spooky..

Actually another poster answered you first but I didn't notice because I -- errrm... I didn't notice...

About halloween... we don't make a big celebration about it like they do in the US. For us, Nov 1st has greater relevance. But to be serious, I don't think it's just hype when a country the size of the Ukraine takes measures to close all schools for three weeks along with many offices and all theaters, and also restrict the movement of the populace for the same period of time. This is frankly rather worrying, especially as the Ukraine shares borders with so many countries. (Russia, Belarus, Poland, Slovakia, Hungary and Romania.)

I would expect that some foreigners living or working in the Ukraine will leave post-haste and head for home, restrictions on travel notwithstanding. There are lots of little back roads all over, and if you want to cross a border it's not that hard.

Strategically, if you wanted to launch a contagion on its merry way, the Ukraine would be a fair candidate. I'm not suggesting that this virus was deliberately released into the populace, though. Just making an observation.

From hisz.rsoe.hu...

A closed meeting has been held in Ivano-Frankivsk, at which participants agreed that epidemic of the so-called "pneumonic plague" is being spread throughout Ukraine. But the problem is its form is unknown, it is ATYPICAL nobody knows how to treat it.

Ternopil Oblast:

“In all, 262 patients are treated in hospitals, of these 16 in serious condition. !* children have died in rural areas and 70 in Ternopil,”

The disease starts slowly, with temperature rising to 37.2 – 37.3 degrees, slight cough and pain in joints. Nasal catarrh developed at the end of the second or third day. Autopsy revealed that the lungs were soaked with blood, the oblast chief specialist said.

No it's not disproportionate, if you actually take into account that this thread is NOT about the known form of swine flu but an unknown virus that (to this moment) is believed to be responsible for 37 deaths in Ukraine in just a few days, and which is considered by medical experts to be far more virulent than swine flu!

Before making comments about "fear mongering at its finest", try reading the entire thread so you know what is being reliably reported, and also consider that the nation of Ukraine's government does not take actions like closing all schools for three weeks without very good reason!

You forgot Transnistria. Actually it's officially Moldova, but the Moldavian authorities don't have access there. Transnistria is on Ukraine's western border. This mystery flu hit the western part of Ukraine. Hmmm...

i dont think any nation would do that over swine flu and with ease. thats how i found the thread and thought it strange that the ukraine would literally shut down for 3 weeks over swine flu.

That's weird... I had Moldova in my notes when I was typing that post...

I also wanted to mention Turkey is just across the waves from Ukraine but thought six countries as contacting neighbors was enough to be worried about for now. My apologies for missing out Moldova in the list.

Could this be the H3N2 virus that has been making its way around Europe. Or is this another strain of whatever. How many of these virus's are out there? This one is suppose to be worse then the swine flu that is going around. This H3N2 strain targets people over 50. Nobody is safe.
