I think people are upset because this may possibly smell of a dictatorship and communism. I have never seen a president ask for help with things from children have you? I will be anxious to see exactly what is asked of kids and see if there is any type of brainwashing going on. It is great to volunteer and such as I believe in doing so. It is a whole different story to have the leader of the free world telling children to do so. So if this is just a speech saying have a nice school year and get a good education that is wonderful and I will applaud that! However, that should take all of 15 seconds to say and if it is much longer than that will be carefully listening to the content.

Just because you have never seen it doesn't mean it didn't happen. Reagan and Bush sr. both did national addresses to kids. Reagan even used the opportunity to try and sell his tax cuts.

Dictatorship? Communism? Whoa... After 8 years of warrentless wiretapping, being lied into war, illegal torture and extraordinary rendition, firing district attorneys for not going after political targets, outing CIA agents to protect propaganda, etc, etc.

After all that how can you possibly say that the current administration, just getting started smells of dictatorship? Other than dealing with a lot of leftover crap, everything Obama is doing now are things he campaigned on, and was elected by a majority of Americans.

A common thread I am seeing is that while people complained about what Bush DID, people now are complaining about what they "think" Obama is doing.

Its close to impossible to discuss the issues when one side is working on non facts plucked out of their fevered imaginations, so i'm off to do something more productive.

Wow vince, a list of lies? So are you saying that we did find WMD's in Iraq? That the disclosure of the warrantlless wiretappping by our own government was a lie?

You know man, its really hard to take you seriously nowadays.

Regardless, the common consensu here on ATS is for some of the members to support the President, while others oppose it. Regardless of whos in the office, some people on ATS will oppose and make up lies about a President, and others will support a President and support any lies thhat may come up.

We saw it with Bush, he was full of lies, but alot of stuff was also made up about him which was not true, and alot of partisan divide was posted to keep us from discussing the topics.

So the trend here is, no matter which President serves, people on ATS will both make up fantasy accusations, and others will disclose the truth and/or lies about the person sitting there.

So I just say, whatever, I know nobody onn ATS is going to lobby anyone meaningful, or really join any group on the ground to suipport their cause, so its like whatever. Realy this site is about just talk talk talk, pretty much like half our politicians.

So frankly, yea make up stuff about how Obama is going to sell evil ideologies too our schoolchildren, and on the eighth, it is an accusation that will easily be dissolved and the following week will be repeat with a fresh set of laughable accusations.

The comment I responded to did not mention WMD anywhere.

If you all are so worried about it, sell the mcmansion and buy some land,
take the kids and homeschool them, learn self sufficiency and stop
supporting the mess in the first place! THAT is true freedom!
What we have now is a clusterf***. Sorry, but thats what its called here:.
How many more clues do you need that we dont matter to them and
no matter what we do the status quo will continue?
Here's one big clue (besides the bailouts & giveaways)

www.abovetopsecret.com...

The only one that will take care of you is YOU.
Start packing and good luck in the land of greed, home of the fraid'.

Then you can kick back and laugh about it all for 3 1/2 more years,
then the circus travels to the other side, and the show continues...

being lied into war

To which you responded

a list of lies

under which the statement

being lied into war

was part of that list. One of the lies being, WMD in Iraq, which was in fact a lie. Your statement however, implies that lying about the WMD's is not factual, therefore assuming we did find WMD in iraq.

I understand this has nothing to do with the topic at hand, but that was not itself a list of lies, simply the facts of the past eight years.

Not to mention the socialism is a leftist authoritarian system and fascism is a rightist authoritarian system.

Wrong. There is nothing in American Right-Wing ideology that gets you to a Fascist state.

Again.. Mussilini formed Fascism , being heavily influenced by American Progressivism and Marxism

Some body has been watching to much Beck

Fascism, pronounced /ˈfæʃɪzəm/, comprises a radical and authoritarian nationalist political ideology[1][2][3][4] and a corporatist economic ideology. [5] Fascists believe that nations and/or races are in perpetual conflict whereby only the strong can survive by being healthy, vital, and by asserting themselves in conflict against the weak.[6]
Fascists advocate the creation of a single-party state.[7] Fascist governments forbid and suppress criticism and opposition to the government and the fascist movement.[8] Fascism opposes class conflict, blames capitalist liberal democracies for its creation and communists for exploiting the concept.[9]
In the economic sphere, many fascist leaders have claimed to support a "Third Way" in economic policy, which they believed superior to both the rampant individualism of unrestrained capitalism and the severe control of state communism.

I dont know how to put it any more simply... American Conservatives believe in individual liberty and constrained limited Government.

Nothing you cited aligned with the Right in this country in any way.

HEY its a good belief for sure, just hasn't panned out that way in a very very long time.

I can't even tell you when the GOP has lessened net government during a term.

If this weren't so pathetic it would be hilarious! The President of the United States has chosen to speak to school children. He is going to release beforehand what the speech will say, to try to beat some of the histrionics down to something resembling normalcy, hoping against hope that some parents will realize how childlike they are behaving.

I'm reading "50's China, don't want my kids there, trying to convert them", OMG! We have reached a new level of hysteria and ignorance.

You don't know what he is planning to say, so make up something completely absurdly vile and rediculous and then FREAK OUT about it. Put YOUR words in his mouth, second guess his motivations, and then Freak out about that, because the reality of this is nothing to freak out about.

Running on emotions, no brains left. Don't need one anymore.

Many of these children, experiencing the opportunity to see a "live' President, would cherish it as one of the high points of their entire lives.

When they are 30 years old, and others are speaking of it, these children will have the displeasure and embarrestment of saying "Mommy wouldn't let me go". Selfish and beyond absurd. Freaking your own self out over absolutely nothing but your own words.

It's not Pathetic or Pathetic hilarious at all. In fact you should be alarmed.

Here's what one parent said about the indoctrination of her daughter back during the Inauguration.

It is a blindness, isn't it? But isn't it a kind of blindness that helps to define, "progressives"?

Dialing things back to the "good ol' days", doesn't feel right. Regardless of your ideological viewpoint, the rational human can't help but think, there just might be a better way...

But how are you gonna' know if you don't try something? And how could you justify the refusal to hear it, if you were truly wanting to improve the status quo? The corporate structure of this country is pulling the strings.....why? Because they've been looking at each other over conference room tables, asking each other...in what way can we make this work better....with better rewards to me?

I don't see why those same principals and "best practices", can't be applied to these situations...."let's try something different.."

well for one the republicans helped get obama elected. Also what if Bush wanted to address the school children would you still be open to it or would you see it as propiganda? Why can't Obama address the voters?
