Are you a friggen idiot!?! it was Carter who got the hostages out of Iran, and not Ragan. and on top of that Carter was a humanitarian. We would try to save people istead of kill people and instigate war like Nickson, Ragan, Bush Sr., and Bush Jr. This makes Jimmy Sarter a stronger amn than these people ever would be. It takes a strong man to attack, but a stronger man to help others. Get your friggen facts straight man!

Carter was the reason the hostages were taken, and Carter failed time and time again to get them back. How about you, "get your friggen facts straight man!"

Jeez, this is why I dislike America a lot, you listen to idiots like Beck, Hannity, Palin, and Limbaugh. I may not support Obama, but dudes, socialised medicine will help you yanks out. I'm from Canada and we've got the 6th or 7th best healthcare system in the world, while you've got the 37th. Yah sure 1 in 5 of us die, but that's a hell of a lot better that the 3 of 5 you guys have. This is one reason that he went to Canada first. He is copying our health and banking systems (though he's not doing so well with the banking part). The only reason people and politicians hate the bill is because they are being payed off by the insurance companies to talk slander about this health care reform, and you believe the babbling of idiots. There are no death pannels and you will not run out of medicine. You were all tricked by that retarded waste of space Sarah Palin. Has anyone seriously read the bill? If you've have you would support it. Sure your taxes may go up, but come on, isn't that a small price to pay for your health? your beinn beaten by France in health care, hell even Cuba treats it's people better that you guys. Do you seriously want to be beaten by them? You guys must be stupid to oppose this bill. You all wouldn't die cause the friggen insurence companies would have to pay for it and not back out like they always do and leave you holding the bag.

Jeez, If you dislike America so much then why on earth do you care enough to post about our healthcare. I don't dislike Canada, but Canadians that are uniformed about their own healthcare system are annoying especially when they butt in on American issues.

You can keep you government run healthcare....

Overhauling health-care system tops agenda at annual meeting of Canada's doctors

The incoming president of the Canadian Medical Association says this country's health-care system is sick and doctors need to develop a plan to cure it.

Dr. Anne Doig says patients are getting less than optimal care and she adds that physicians from across the country - who will gather in Saskatoon on Sunday for their annual meeting - recognize that changes must be made.

"We all agree that the system is imploding, we all agree that things are more precarious than perhaps Canadians realize," Doing said in an interview with The Canadian Press.

"We know that there must be change," she said. "We're all running flat out, we're all just trying to stay ahead of the immediate day-to-day demands."

Doig says there are some "very good things" about Canada's health-care system, but she points out that many people have stories about times when things didn't go well for them or their family.

"(Canadians) have to understand that the system that we have right now - if it keeps on going without change - is not sustainable," said Doig.

That was going to happen regardless of which president was in carge. he may have madethat mistake, but made up for it by getting them back on to their native soil.

@ vor78
The only reason he was unpopular was because of the fact he was speaking about peace and humanitarianism in his speaches. i'm surprised that he wasn't killed like John Lennon for speaking of piece and helping your fellow man, regardless of race, religion, or political view.

Doig, who has had a full-time family practice in Saskatoon for 30 years, acknowledges that when physicians have talked about changing the health-care system in the past, they've been accused of wanting an American-style structure. She insists that's not the case.

This is from your article . So she says it needs to be fixed but doesnt want a American style system.

You're the "friggen idiot". It was actions taken by Carter that caused the hostage crisis in the first place. Carter was seen by the world as a weak leader. If a strong leader like Reagan was president at the time the hostage crisis would have never happened. Where do you get your facts from?

I may dislike America, but that doesn't mean I don't care about people. Sure, Canada's healthcare maynot be perfect, but come on, you have to admit, it is a hell of alot of better than what you currently have. Hell France has the best, but you guys don't want to admit that they have a better system than you cuz you guys think your the best in the world. I'm not saying that France has a perfect system either.

And I'm just wondering, this is asking all Americans, why do you defend a healthcare system that would kill you faster that you just taking your chances?

My intent was never to discuss the merits of Jimmy Carter, but to use it as an example that a president who failed to garner public support for whatever reason will not typically damage the nation itself in terms of overseas standing.

This will be the last post I direct toward the policies of Carter, as its off-topic here (and I'll take the blame for introducing it in the first place), but I think his unpopularity had much more to do with the high unemployment, inflation and interest rates going into that election cycle.

Maybe its time to mix things up a little.

I can dress up to a protest like I am with ACORN and OPPOSE the healthcare bill. Then people will really get confused.

Reagan wasn't a strong leader, he just wanted any excuse to use the nukes on contries that pissed off america. And more proof of his weakness is the Iran-Contra Affair. He had to have Ollie North take the fall for him cause he was a wuss adn couldn't own up to his idiocy.

Where do you get this idea that Americans are left dying on the street because they don't have health insurance? I doesn't happen. People in need of treatment are taken care of. Anyone can walk into an emergency room and they will be treated, it's against the law to turn people away.

Face it. Our healthcare is run by pharmaceutical companies. People do go without medical treatment of any kind. It's the best way to stay healthy.

Edit for spelling: But if you can't tell I am on the fence somewhat, but I do not think the current bill addresses the needs of the american people.

Not that I am in support of Obamacare, but there are things about it that could be good for everyone. I think this healthcare bill is a front. I do believe that the healthcare issue needs to be fixed, AFTER we get our financial ducks in a row.

Finally someone who make sense. I agree. We need to take a long hard look at health care and figure out where the actual problems are instead of creating some massive money wasting bureaucracy. I have read some excellent suggestions from the doctors, who really do want to donate some of their time to the needy.

Those of us opposed to Obamacare are labeled as "selfish" instead of "skeptical" and "cautious" and then the ears close as if it is Obama care or nothing.

Yes I have read the bill, no I do not support Obamacare. However that does not mean I do not support some sort of health care reform.

Funny...

Did Obama not say last week that the Canadian Health program is great but will not work in the U.S?

How is he copying your system if he is saying that?

Oh, and we do not care if you do not like us. Thanks for letting us know though. Have a great day!

I agree. Notice how they have a pill for everything lately. I think they are making up diseases just to sell more drugs. I mean WTF is restless leg syndrome? And we must have a lot of impotent men in this country because all I see on TV is ads selling drugs for erectile dysfunction.

I am not against healthcare reform, I am against any government run option. The goverment can't run anything without screwing it up royally.

According to this 1998 interview with Zbigniew Brzezinski, the CIA's intervention in Afghanistan preceded the 1979 Soviet invasion. This decision of the Carter Administration in 1979 to intervene and destabilise Afghanistan is the root cause of Afghanistan's destruction as a nation.

M.C.

The CIA's Intervention in Afghanistan Interview with Zbigniew Brzezinski, President Jimmy Carter's National Security Adviser

Question: The former director of the CIA, Robert Gates, stated in his memoirs , that American intelligence services began to aid the Mujahadeen in Afghanistan 6 months before the Soviet intervention. In this period you were the national security adviser to President Carter. You therefore played a role in this affair. Is that correct?

Brzezinski
: Yes. According to the official version of history, CIA aid to the Mujahadeen began during 1980, that is to say, after the Soviet army invaded Afghanistan, 24 Dec 1979. But the reality, secretly guarded until now, is completely otherwise Indeed, it was July 3, 1979 that President Carter signed the first directive for secret aid to the opponents of the pro-Soviet regime in Kabul. And that very day, I wrote a note to the president in which I explained to him that in my opinion this aid was going to induce a Soviet military intervention......

I am new to ATS so I'll be brief with my question. Why is it that this healthcare reform is frowned upon by so many? Correct me if I'm wrong but Isn't this the same thing we offer Millions of our nations VETERANS? if it's good enough for them WHY NOT impliment the system to all Americans?
