Here's a good one I think, very old as well.

Rezso Seress - Gloomy Sunday

www.mvdaily.com...

The song, composed by the Hungarian Rezsó Seress to words by Lásló Jávor, was first published in Budapest in 1933. It is a typical schmalzy gipsy-band piece, representative of the slow lassu section of the traditional csardas which is invariably sad in character. And sad this certainly is - a melancholy love-song in which a man declares that as his sweetheart refuses to believe he really loves her, there is only one way to prove his devotion. One gloomy Sunday, he insists, he will kill himself - and then she will know...

The song immediately caught on despite its morbidity. Paul Robeson made a fine recording of it, and so did the once-revered Hutch in a very different version. The haunting tune was indeed recorded and broadcast all round the world, attaining great popularity everywhere...

For me, the song Samba Pa Ti, which means 'solo for you' in latin, is one of the most haunting, emotion evoking songs I have ever listened to. It is Carlos Santana, from 1988 originally, but it was re-released in 1995, successful on the charts both times.

Written for their roadie friend from NZ who died in a car crash. One tree hill in NZ

We turn away to face the cold, enduring chill
As the day begs the night for mercy love
The sun so bright it leaves no shadows
Only scars carved into stone
On the face of earth
The moon is up and over One Tree Hill
We see the sun go down in your eyes

You run like river, on like a sea
You run like a river runs to the sea

And in the world a heart of darkness
A fire zone
Where poets speak their heart
Then bleed for it
Jara sang, his song a weapon
In the hands of love
You know his blood still cries
From the ground

It runs like a river runs to the sea
It runs like a river to the sea

I don't believe in painted roses
Or bleeding hearts
While bullets rape the night of the merciful
I'll see you again
When the stars fall from the sky
And the moon has turned red
Over One Tree Hill

We run like a river
Run to the sea
We run like a river to the sea
And when it's raining
Raining hard
That's when the rain will
Break my heart

Raining...raining in the heart
Raining in your heart
Raining...raining to your heart
Raining, raining...raining
Raining to your heart
Raining...raining in your heart
Raining in your heart..
To the sea

Oh great ocean
Oh great sea
Run to the ocean
Run to the sea

The only thing better than a kick-ass song is a sad one...

This is the saddest song I know of..

If you're reading this- Tim McGraw

If you’re reading this
And My mama's sitting there
Looks like I only got a one-way ticket over here
I sure wish I could give you one more kiss
And war was just a game we played when we were kids
Well I’m laying down my gun
I’m hanging up my boots
I’m up here with God
And we’re BOTH watching over you

So lay me down
In that open field out on the edge of town
And know my soul
Is where my momma always prayed that it would go
And if you’re reading this
I’m already home

If you’re reading this
Half way around the world
I won’t be there to see the birth of our little girl
I hope she looks like you
I hope she fights like me
Stands up for the innocent and the weak
I’m laying down my gun
I’m hanging up my boots
Tell dad I don’t regret that I followed in his shoes

So lay me down
In that open field out on the edge of town
And know my soul
Is where my momma always prayed that it would go
And if you’re reading this
I’m already home

If you’re reading this
There’s gonna come a day
When you move on and find someone else
And that’s okay
Just remember this
I’m in a better place
Where soldiers live in peace
And angels sing Amazing Grace

So lay me down
In that open field out on the edge of town
And know my soul
Is where my momma always prayed that it would go
And if you’re reading this
If you’re reading this
I’m already home

I cant find it on video anywhere...THATS HOW SAD THIS SONG IS!

new.music.yahoo.com...

Now he's brought down the rain
and the indian summer is through
In the morning you'll be following your trail again
Fair play to you
You ain't calling me to join you
and I'm spoken for anyway
But I will cry when ye go away
I will cry when ye go away

Your beauty is familiar
and your voice is like a key
That opens up my soul
And torches up a fire inside of me
Your coat is made of magic
and around your table angels play
And I will cry when ye go away
I will cry when ye go away

Somebody left his whisky
and the night is very young
I've got some to say and more to tell
and the words will soon be spilling from my tongue
I will rave and I will ramble
I'll do everything but make you stay
Then I will cry when ye go away
I will cry when ye go away

When ye go away...
When ye go away...
