Incredibly, President George W. Bush told French President Jacques Chirac in early 2003 that Iraq must be invaded to thwart Gog and Magog, the Bible's satanic agents of the Apocalypse.


Honest. This isn't a joke. The president of the United States, in a top-secret phone call to a major European ally, asked for French troops to join American soldiers in attacking Iraq as a mission from God.

Well, I find that disturbing to say the least. First of all, from a purely diplomatic perspective that is an insane way to appeal to the leader of one of Western Europe's most socialist, secular governments. A massive communication blunder.

The article goes on to quote Bush thusly:
"Gog and Magog are at work in the Middle East. ... The biblical prophecies are being fulfilled. ... This confrontation is willed by God, who wants to use this conflict to erase his people's enemies before a New Age begins."

Probably Cheney simply let Bush rattle and prattle on like that while he and the real big dawgs hunkered down over oilpatch maps...still, its a bizzare comment for a strange time.

Maybe he would have had better luck if he sent Dan Akroyd, wearing dark sunglasses, to make the proposal:

"Yo, Jock. We're re-forming the coalition. We're on a mission from God."

Seriously though, Bush's biblical motivations have been fairly widely reported for some time now. If this is true then it's really just more of the same. I wouldn't have expected anything different from him, having lived through his terms as president.

I still can't get my head around ol' bush.

On one hand he is telling leaders of secular nations (French politics still has the drappery and finary of the olden days but religion is not a guiding prinicple in policy anymore nor is it a wise way to sway the electorate) that he is on this insane quest to defeat forgotten gods to fulfil the bible...

The other hand he is running around performing mock sacrifices to an idol one of the few gods expressly forbidden in the bible?!?!?

Is he a religious nut, a chaotic lunatic or some form of weird modern occultist?!?

Apart from being daddys little puppet i really can't imagine what his game is... But then again maybe THAT is his game?

maybe he's played such a confusing game that no one can second guess him - the ultimate poke stance, hehe and he does like his poker so i hear.

1 - Chirac can't be believed about anything.
2 - This is 2003 'news'. It is not breaking news
3 - I think we've all heard this before ... many times.

Smear not the legacy of Bush. Any problems we're facing now were caused by (pick any number): Clinton, left-socialist-Democrats, Barney Frank, Fannie Mae, stupid homebuyers but mostly Obama.

This reminds me of 'The Bush Scroll' from last year where three Israeli rabbis sent Bush a document and addressed him as 'The Chief Prince of Meshech and Tubal.' It was basically an insult associating him with Gog and Magog due to his plans for the Middle East:

It’s being called The Bush Scroll and was written in the Name of the Lord, Eternal God, as if the authors believe they were His scribes in the effort, and calls to mind the phrase, “Thus aith the Lord.”

It was addressed to “esteemed Mr. George W. Bush, the chief prince of Meshech and Tubal, (Ezekiel 38:1) leader of the west.” By including a reference to Ezekiel in the salutation the authors were identifying Pres. Bush as the one called Gog in that verse. It seems like they intend it to be viewed as a letter from God to His adversary (I am against you O Gog, chief prince of Meshech and Tubal).
