Ominous imagery on Google Japan today

Google like to change their logos for "special events" so these links may not tell you much after today.

First, look at the logo for Google Japan

Then compare with the US google (normal)
www.google.com...

The Google Japan logo for today features a black background and eclipse imagery. Why are the emphasizing an eclipse? And why only in Japan.

Freaks me out a bit, man.

It's not just Japan. It's China as well. Probably other countries that fall under the area that can see the eclipse. No conspiracy here.

Hmmm, very pretty. Wish it was on the US one as well. :p

The sun is considered to "rise" in Japan and it is their national symbol. There is nothing scary about this image, it is lovely.

I got home too late to watch it live online, it would have been cool to see. I don't think Google had any strange agenda today in Asia involving it's logo.

Know anything about Metarton's Cube? It's an ancient/medieval matrix for creating 3D illusions of the Platonic Solids (from which one can construct any object in the universe) from a 2-D design, and visa-versa. More esoterically, it demonstrates/represents the ability to move between multiple dimensions and is thus philosophically similar to fractional-dimensional ("fractal") objects.
