Iran Produces New Anti-Aircraft Missile

We have seen in recent month, that Iran has starting to produce, and developed new weaponry in great hurry; like Middle Range missile (Shahab), Light Attck Helicopter, AA Artillery, Navy vessels, etc... and now new AA-missile.

Again this "Domestically Made" quote - like in every news about new Iranian weaponry... but I wont buy this at all. We are talking about missiles, helicopters, radars, computers, digits in here! - And when we remember, that Russian AA-missile engineers are placed to Tehran to train new delivered BUK systems (News was out in time of Gaza Op) ... We can ask, what has been their part in making these systems?

Iran looks like its preparing to defend themself with very limited timetable!

With Israel in mind, Iran produces new anti-aircraft missile

Iran has started production of a new ground-to-air missile system, Iranian media reported on Saturday, amid persistent speculation that Israel might attack the Islamic Republic's nuclear facilities.

"The range of this defense system (missile) is more than 40 km and it is able to pursue and hit the enemy's airplanes and helicopters on a smart basis and at supersonic speed," Defense Minister Mostafa Mohammad Najjar said, without specifying how the missile compared to previous such weapons.

Iran mass produces smart ground-to-air missile

Iran's Defense Minister Brigadier General Mostafa Mohammad-Najjar inaugurators the production line of domestically-made supersonic ground-to-air missile system.

Mohammad-Najjar says the smart missile system, called 'Shahin' has a range of more than 40 kilometers. He added that the system, capable of targeting fighter jets and helicopters, will promote Iran's defense capabilities against possible air attacks.

That looks like the MIM-23 HAWK missile. in fact it is a hawk missile or a copy of a hawk missile.

Iran had hawk missiles from before the militants took over, plus during the Iran–Contra affair they got more. but they were a down graded missile that the US aircraft could defeat with ease. plus if they turn on there radars to use the hawk missile they will get hit with a HARM missile

we only gave them a missile that was useless against US aircraft.

And if they would not work against the US there is little chance they would work against israeli aircraft.

How stupid can they be in Iran to try to get people to believe that it a missile they designed and built

So this is why they make their own helicopters now... so that there will still be something in use that their new missile has a chance of hitting.

Many, many years down the road these developments might prove useful as the foundations of their own military industrial complex. But if they want to maintain state-of-the-art, proven defenses they need to stick to buying from Russia or China.

At the time of the revolution Iran was one of the best educated and most technologicaly advanced countries in the middle east.
In the past 30 years they have made so little progress, especially compared to a country like s. korea which was equvilent to iran in the 70's.

Maybe if they didnt waste so much time and resources hateing the US and trying to destroy israel they might have gotten farther.

Iran can only blame iran for where its at today.

The revolution is currently going on - thats why they say - long live the revolution. At the time of the revolution the country was a basket case over run by a western despot.
Currently they have some of the best educated people on earth - they are used extensively in British Universities to teach British students. I have personally studied under them in one of the UK's best universities - have you ?
Their percentage of well educated women is also exceptionally high -

You should try not to let blind hatred of the US / Israel get in the way of reality, nor over-egg the capabilities of Iran.

Iran remains a "developing nation" which does not have an advcanced industrial base and remains wholly dependent on oil and gas. Most of the capabilities have been brought in - nuclear from Russia, missile tech from North Korea et al.
