A simple enough question....right?

Who is your favorite drummer? Who do you think is the best drummer ever?

For me...they are one and the same.

Danny Carey.

Unfortunately there just aren't many good vids of his drumming. The proof is in the music.

There's no doubt about it for me. John Bonham of Led Zepplin beats them all. He's very fast and if you've listened to Zepplin songs you'll realize just how hard it is to play the drums like he does.

Hey there.

I can't believe that no one has put Neil Peart from Rush up here yet.

This guy defines drums, timing and percussion and has been doing it for 30 + years.

I think that no list would be complete without his inclusion.

This was from Sweden, 1969. Now the man is chaotic at times+I love the imperfections it was part of the Experience sound.

Hendrix and Redding come in about half way through.

TURN IT UP!

Well, your thread title is more than just misleading. All time?It should be "in our time" It should also be "rock drummer."

There have been so many very good drummers that don't play in rock bands and very few people know of them.

I wonder who the gents you all just mentioned would say if you asked them the question? You would all probably be surprised by the answers.

It would mostly be drummers you never even heard of.The only way this question can be properly determined is to ask a drummer.

Most would say Buddy Rich.

John Henry Bonham is by far the greatest drummer of all time.

Have to throw another vote towards Danny Carey(sp?). Or take a look at some of Nine Inch Nails drummers. Back to Danny...what solidifies it for me is he tore his bicep in 07 I think, and played a few months later. And didn't lose a beat.

Mike Portnoy is massively overrated, he's a good drummer, but is defiantly doesn't deserve all the praise he gets. Especially, when there are better drummers out there.

Now the person from Dream theater who doesn't get nearly enough praise is John Myung, he is probably one of the best current basest, and people always talk about the massively overrated Portnoy, and Petrucci.

Agree with Bonham's "Moby Dick". Nothing comes close to that. Other great drummers i can think of are such as Chris Layton, Phill Collins, Chris Sharrock and of course the drums of a legend in Hendrix's "Fire".

It would have to be Ian Paice.

You can hear every hit so clearly, he is so precise.

Oh an skip to 5:20 if you wish, that's when his solo starts.

Yeah man, Keith definatly! Only one mention?

I'll also say Phil Collins (Genesis), Nick Mason (Pink Floyd), Ringo Starr (The Beatles), and John Densmore (The Doors).
