Mitch Mitchell, stickman for the Jimi Hendrix Experience, was found dead today in a Portland, Ore., hotel room.

The drummer, who had been on the road with the Experience Hendrix Tour, apparently died of natural causes, according to the city's medical examiner, but an autopsy is planned. Mitchell was 61.

Aside from backing Hendrix on such classics as "Foxy Lady," "Purple Haze" and "All Along the Watchtower," Mitchell also jammed with the likes of John Lennon, Eric Clapton and Keith Richards.

Mitchell was the last surviving member of Hendrix's groundbreaking, Rock and Roll Hall of Fame trio. Hendrix died in 1970, and bassist Noel Redding, in 2003.

Aww, I'm sad. I really liked him.

Looks like the entire JHE is dead now. How sad to think that an entire band is dead! I think we'll start to see a lot more of these folks go. Someone from Pink Floyd just died, too, I remember.

Thank God for viny, and drum it up with Jimi and Noel Mitch!l!

And it's sad to think that Jimi approached Jon Bonham behind the scenes, without Mitch knowing Although not better, but surely a unique style all his own. Might I add the ever famous "Fire" - awesome drumming, as well as my personal favorite Manic Depression.

Well, Bonham was a good fit where he did end up.

Heaven has a hell of a band, eh?
