This is a crazy video I saw on YouTube...
video.google.com...
The interesting part is about 17 seconds in....

Supposedly, this creature, that resembles a Manta Ray, is flying through the air at 20,000 feet.

I cannot see any trickery, and the caption on the bottom says...

"flying manta ray footage from the french government circa 1948. The original frames were motion tracked and stabilized. You can see it flying above the clouds, then it drops a few..."

I have never seen this on the boards before...

Just wondering what other people think, or if anyone has any other information that would be great!

Thanks

nevermind, link fixed I guess, or maybe it was just me.

The video in my mind was pretty interesting until the pics near the end, some of those look very photoshoped to me, taking away from the video.
Just my 2cents though

Hmmm. That is strange. When they slow it down, the head area looks less like a manta ray but the wings still seem pretty hard to explain as anything else. That is crazy but I had the sound off so I did not hear any explanation or anything.

i assume this is a sarcastically serious prank. I saw some evidence of video editing. When you are viewing the "flying ray" from the airplane, and the plane jerks, for some reason the ray moves right along with the plane.

The website is called thesmokingnug.com... come on now.

Debunked.

that thing is flying as fast as the plane, I dont know how fast the plane is going there but if its a big jet its going 300+ mph, is it possible for something small like that to fly that fast?

I dont see where you are talking about.....

Although the link is questionable....I still believe your debunking methods are a bit sketchy....

Can you provide more information or is the website name your only evidence?

LOL! This has to be a joke. Not you, Alien, but whoever made the video. A manta ray? Just flying along at 20K feet? At the speed of an airplane? No, don't think so. lol

You didn't miss anything, its a just a soundtrack of music....

Nothing is explained....

Gibberish crap in the beginning, but after 17 seconds its pretty strange....

Judging by how old the footage is, this can be anything....

I can see how this could be a joke, but.....

Pretty well done hoax in my humble opinion.....

Yes, I just went back and reread your O.P. more carefully this time. I noticed you specifically said 'resembles a manta ray.' So as for the footage, I have no idea if it is legitimate. It couldn't possibly actually be a manta ray (as the title suggests) but it could very well be a 'creature that resembles' one.
I think the way they put the video together though was a bit of a joke, though. lol

Well then I have to go with my first instinct and say, that is just weird. The more I look at the wings, the harder it is to believe it is a bird but what the heck ya know? Could be anything though I guess with that picture quality and all.

I find it difficult to believe that is not altered footage, because besides the altitude, the thing would have to be flying at several hundred knots airspeed.

edit to add:
I suppose that it might be possible if one was picked up by a waterspout, and then caught up into the jet stream. It would not survive up there very long though.

That would be crazy!!!!!

But your assumptions are logical.

I would have to think its a clever well done CGI, or we have some sort of living space craft type thing flying around.

This is a year after Roswell (1947)

Not to mention that some of the "stills" have the same backgrounds as some of the Billy Meier photos. Yeah, I'm sure it's real.

I made some screen shots of the video so people that cant view video can get a better idea of whats going on....

Wait what?

Can you post some pictures of that?

I would love to compare and contrast

Man thats spooky.
I'm waiting for Twilight Zone action to happen next.
That thing might be after the landing gear!

However, in all seriousness, notwithstanding non-constructive comments such as mine, I cannot in good faith consider this debunked yet.

I just don't know.
