Hello just a few moments ago I heard a helicopter, like nearby it had its searchlights on and scanning the whole neighborhood I have no idea why, is that normal for a helicopter to come and do that? Of course its night where I am.

Perhaps there is an escaped convict hiding somewhere.... could anyone explain?

99.9% chance they are looking for a suspect/criminal.

Actually yes... in my hometown (pop 40k) every single night a helicopter flies around and checks out the area. Why? I don't know.
But they do it every, single, night.

I lived in Newark, NJ for 2 years and every night there was more than one police helicopter hovering near my house with the bright searchlight going.

Newark has one of the highest murder rates in the nation.

I was glad the police helicopter was there... whether they were specifically looking for a perpetrator of a crime or just trying to prevent crime.
