Qantas jumbo lands with 'gaping hole' in fuselage

news.yahoo.com

Stunned passengers reported how the jumbo, which had taken off from London and stopped in Hong Kong, plunged 20,000 feet (6,000) metres in what one said was an "absolutely terrifying" ordeal.

An urgent investigation is underway into what punched a hole of about three metres (10 feet) in diameter into the fuselage near the right wing

wow.. that would be some scary *stuff*

We were told that one of the rear doors, a hole had blown into it

in other words... ignore the HUGE hole in the wing...
it was the back door.. :-/
some people will lie with their last and dying breath...

'Great job Boeing.. made a tough plane...'

it amazes me that those things can even get airborn.. let alone
stay aloft with a major part of the structure blown apart..

Doesn't this make the second such collision in a month. Last time it was the nose of the plane with a strange circular dent in its nose cone. I looked at the pics of this latest plane and it seemed to be that the metal was pushed inward. IMO it looks like it was hit by a disc shaped object.

Yeah that was supposedly bird damage. I haven't flown in some time. I used to fly quite a bit. But now I don't know getting crowded up there or something..

And I believe Qantas still maintains its record of having never had a plane crash.

Yeah, normally I have something for ya, but this time, all I can come up with is either unchecked wear and tear, or something in that cargo bay did it.

And no, that other story you guys were talking about, the nose cone? That was a bird strike.

Anyways, back to this one.

Anyone notice how the cameraman capitalized on the event with humor?
