gate, I'm no 'Evolution genius' either....but could you, please, explain to a very critical audience what the Moon has to do with evolution???

Thanks....we're all ears and eyes.....

best, WW

if evolution wants to prove its big bang theorys and how long the earth /universe has been around you would think that collecting data from the moon would be a good place to start thats all im getting at and if NASA wants to find evidence of ETs the moon could hold the key. I also beleive technology has gone so far why wouldnt they plan for a moon base set a up a satalite with a nice big telescope to research even further into the universe.

reasons like there is no public interest or funding for moon landings i do not beleive.

i for one would love to see them go to the moon and see it live as it happens as i mist it by 18 years.

and im sure im not the only one who would love to see a moon landing

I'v always wondered what Neil Armstrong really was trying to say when he said these words to a student body of college preps.
“There are wonders beyond belief on the moon for those who can remove protective layers of truth”

Neil Armstrong.. rare public appearance.

I don't know your age Internos, but that song would have been very appropriate at that time in history. It would have been alluding to the wonder of taking a leisurely stroll on the Moon and the happy, giddy feelings they were having. You have to think of this in their time frame not the mindset of this modern Rap era.

"There is a Santa Clause" would have been very appropriate to describe the wonderful gift of being able to be one of the Astronauts going to the moon.

As I read threads like these, the memory of watching all this live becomes more vivid too me. I remember the wonder on my Fathers face as this man who grew up herding cattle on horseback watched the first man step foot on the moon. He insisted I not go to school and I watched every minute I could with him. I had signed 8x10's of all the Astronauts and the folders and materials NASA sent out on a regular basis to those who asked for them. God, I wish I would have kept all that stuff. I had everything from the Gemini program forward.

As to the OP,

The original reason to go to the moon was a fear that the Russians would set up a weapons base if they beat us to the moon or into orbit for that matter. It was a matter of urgency.

Since then, there has been no reason to repeat what was already done and it makes far more sense to spend money on new endeavors like Mars.

I also wonder if you have noted this -

December 4, 2006
NASA plans to construct a solar-powered outpost at one the moon's poles, officials with the U.S. space agency announced today.

The lunar base is expected to be permanently staffed by 2024.

Whether this is funded or not may be a good question, but it would seem that we are considering this, now that there is a reason.

It is a shame they can't see there way clear to stop funding study of *Gay Sheep and the like and instead fund more meaningful endeavors.

*I kid you not, I actually drove out to a facility in Idaho where they conduct research on homosexuality in sheep. It's a few miles off I-15 north of Idaho Falls a half hour or so.

FYI: The flight of Apollo 17 launched December 7, 1972 and returned on December 19th.

The last Americans were evacuated from the US Embassy in Saigon on April 30, 1975.

IMO, the Fed and the MIC preferred fighting a war than completing the last 3 Apollo missions to the Moon. The people had no choice in the matter. The idea of deficent spending was new (to this generation) during the 60's and by 1970, I don't think the Fed felt politically comfortable funding a war and sending "extra" flights to the Moon, when the American people could afford neither. Cutting back on the last 3 Moon missions was just window dressing for the masses as they threw everything but the kitchen sink into Vietnam.

Of course, spending many billions of dollars to bring back 842 pounds of lunar material worked out pretty good for the banks, but Vietnam was their "Glory Hole".

Already done the first time. From the fact that the material on the moon is of earthly origin it helped with the theories of how the earth and moon formed and gives relevance to theories of origin of the moon. They are now learning far more by visiting other planets and doing things like collecting samples from a comet. They now know that for instance, our water likely came from comets in the asteroid belt rather than those from the kuyper belt. Don't forget, we did go back to the moon a number of times until the public lost interest and stopped watching.

I'd love to see it myself and it appears it is planned as of this time, by 2024 I think. The cost of these trips will be huge and I think what would be best is private projects and Congress should encourage that with incentives.

I think you hit the old nail on the head with that. Add to that the fact the final trip did lousy in the ratings and its obvious what was in Congresses heads.

I grew up in the Space Age and a lot of you have never known a time when you couldn't leave your planet. I volunteered for manned exploration of the planets right out of high school but NASA's budget had been severely cut by the Democrats for projects here at home. I still have Werner Von Braun's rejection letter.

I still have all 365 of the 1969 TOPPS "Man To The Moon" cards, which, on the back, form a perfect picture puzzle of the 3 astronauts to be the first on the moon. I still have stickers from all the Gemini AND Apollo flights. In fact, in 1984 I was thrilled to be in the USAF and a ground controller for 3 space shuttle flights. (I even have a souvenir flag thats been in space aboard the shuttle.)

We never went back because of the budget cuts, because the Democrats demanded an end to Vietnam, and the only reason for going back at the time was geological. But fear not and conspire not, think on the future of our return to the moon as A PERMANENT BASE by 2024! Think of the future flights to Mars.

But also consider which candidate has the desire to go back to the moon. So far its Bush and the Repudlicans and not the Democraps. I have applied for astronaut and mission specialist since the 1990s. I would almost kill to be the first on Mars. (A dream since 1974).

But now I am getting too old they say. I'm not qualified enough they say. But one of YOU might be. Don't grovel and whimper about conspiracies, LEARN enough to qualify for astronaut status. Apply and keep applying. DON'T GIVE UP!

This is not so much in the sense of evolution, but here is a perfect reason to go to the moon:

If there is an intelligent ET that has visited Earth, or near Earth, then the moon would be a great docking point to, if nothing else, observe from afar if not stage and prepare before actually entering into Earth's atmosphere. If Said ET did visit the moon, then evidence would be well preserved, as there is no weather, tides, vegetation, man etc. on the moon to tamper and unintentionally destroy said evidence. There should be crews up there on the moon scouring it for possible evidence of this hypothetical ET if one were believed to exist by the powers that be.

Even more appropriate given that it was Christmas Eve when he said it.

I know, I said it was Christmas Day earlier.....did the math again and realized it makes even more sense.

Did something they aren't telling us actually go down on the moon? Where we warned to never return to the moon again?

These are very interesting questions to ask our self.

Tell me what you think.

and another

2mins 10 seconds. Otto Binder former NASA employee says they went to a secret channel to communicate. Used code words regarding certain things and entities.

Otto Binder, a former NASA employee, claimed it was overheard by amateur radio enthusiasts who could access a confidential channel. Neil Armstrong - the first man to set foot on the Moon - denies it. At approximately 6-30 a.m. on 17th March 1990, a radio ham from Baltimore, Donald Ratsch, was listening to transmissions from Discovery when he heard the following:"Houston, this is Discovery, we have a problem. We have a fire". Shortly after Ratsch claims he heard "Houston this is Discovery, we still have the Alien spacecraft under observance".A former mission specialist with NASA , Bob Oeschler conducted an intense investigation into these events and concluded that the message had in fact been broadcast from the vicinity of Fort Meade in Maryland, an area where the US National Security Agency had it's base. The NSA has long been interested in UFOs and Oeschler was of the opinion that the transmission was a deliberately set-up hoax for some intelligence purpose.

And if you really do think about it. NASA hasn't been back to the moon since. They always send people to the space station but to The Moon again. They've never been back. I'm not saying there are aliens or being on The Moon but I'm just exposing the fact that NASA isn't telling us the true story of what really happening on the moon and why NASA hasn't been back since.

I know someone asked NASA why haven't they been back. And to this day NASA has NEVER answered our question.....

[edit on 25-6-2008 by xweaponx]

The answer to your question is very simple. It was VERY dangerous to go in the first place so there weren't many missions. Risk versus reward.

One could say the contrary aswell
I for one don't believe in a "GOD." Life...is out there alright.

You can go along with all the conspiracy hoopla because it's easy to believe or you can look at the more rational view that:

At the moment the moon doesn't have anything we desperately need and thus, therefore, not really as interesting. It's a rock in space. We don't need to mine there if you want to contend that because it's cheaper to do that here. There is no legitimate purpose to even be there and nothing substantial to gain from it.

Mars is a different story because it's a whole other planet.

I'm sorry for those who still wish to believe that "aliens warned us off" or whatever other type of conspiracies that are flying around but there just isn't enough there to really motivate us to go there.

Unless we find something there that's substantially worth the trouble of paying for the research and development of a new craft to get us there, develop some time of methodology to farm whatever it is we need, and come back successfully.. there's just no motive to go there.

EDIT: On top of all of this, if you look at the funding NASA is receiving and has been receiving for the past decade or so you can see public interest isn't really in favor of NASA and space exploration. We've had dated model shuttles providing support for the space station that are thankfully getting replaced soon. I know we always have hopes and plans to go back to the moon but that keeps getting pushed back more with the cuts NASA is receiving.

And again... there's just not enough interesting things there in the minds of those who are funding NASA to get them to stimulate their funding.

I believe there is very simple reason.
The public lost interest in the whole moon thing after the 4th landing.
It was the case of, my dad went to the moon and all he got me was this
dumb rock on a t-shirt. The public just saw it as a huge waste of money.
What people didn't realize is off-shoots in technology that came out it was
greater than the trip to the moon. When they go again they will have to find
some ancient alien artifacts or start mining it or the same thing will happen
again.

Uh, you put those comments attributed to Armstrong in quotes, but it's not a quote.

What he actually said:

"There are great ideas undiscovered, breakthroughs available to those who can remove...one of the truth's protective layers"?

Not only is the exact quote available, but a youtube snippet.

It irritates me when people are either too lazy or careless to post accurate information, let alone try to be purposely deceptive while trying to get attention. The truth is already hard to come by given all the hoaxing. Why add to it when the information is readily available.

Thanks for the gist of your post, but your quote completely changes the meaning. I hope posters will try to be more careful and accurate in the future.

I dont know what to believe when it comes to the moon landing. So much is said on it being a hoax. But then I like the idea that they went and something was already there. So I am on the fence on this one. The ufos by the moon are very convincing. Either all Alien life lives on the crafts just cruising through the galaxy or theres a home somewhere near for them or at least a pit stop..Maybe

Sorry confused myself there
Although we cant deny life on the moon is a possibility when you see the Alien bases. Which is shown in this video Great thread. flagged and favored

no motive to go there ? lmao

the Moon is a strategic military vantage point and is part of the plans to weaponize space imo. if anyone is interested in going to the Moon it is the D.O.D. and anyone interested in the mining the Moon.

why would china be sending probes there and only releasing one short video clip ? they are looking at the Moon for their military and probably trying to see what we already have up there so nothing else has been released because its top secret war crap.

the reasons we go to the Moon next won't be for tourists it will be for money and better way's to kill all of us.
