Amuk, I don't think you are going to goad them into a response that way. This is not inteded to bash Christianity. I am only looking for answers and reasons...

The problem I see is that there are way too many biblical literalist around.

Especially when translating or interpreting the Old Testament. A good start for anyone interested in the Bible is a real good college level Religion (REL) 101-102 class and a copy of The New Oxford Annotated Bible.

Believe it or not I was not trying to, I was just stating a fact not just of christians but most other religions as well the last thing the hardliners want to do is take an honest look at there religion be they christain, Jew, Muslim, etc.

Because then they have to got to great lengths to explain what are plainly fairy tales. For some its easier than admiting that EVERY SINGLE WORD might not be true but the over all message, love thy neighboor and such can still be true. Believe it or not I have nothing against religion in its self just the way some use it.

I think religion should be a blanket to keep you warm not a club to beat the unbelivers with if that makes any sense

I agree with that, Seekerof. But the bible literalist are bringing topics like this one on themselves by supporting hate and using the bible as a reference point for that hate.

And so, because they have brought "this" upon themselves, you have choosen/nominated yourself as the one to give the "brotherly love" correction?

Yes, because it is a perspective of it that I have not seen that often here. All I wanted to know if they are this literal about other passages in bible and, more importantly, Why?

well besides the occasional problems that i am working on, i cant speak for my fellow Christians for anything that they do.

im not tryin to use the Bible as a medium to impress hate on anyone or put anyone down..... but as a christian, it is my job to witness to others... thats it.

The way I see, thier should be none. the serves no Merit in the modern world, nor has it in the past.
It should be given just as much credit as do the Roman and Greek mythogies where its influence was bled from.

im just a fool but ill bite like one as well...

religion is an institution designed to maintain proper ethics within a given cultural environment; as well religion exist to provide those people who havent yet had a close relationship with "god" a literal view; one can potentially transcend this literal perception of ones own creation and also have mystical experiences with creation;
yet, the main goal being that of ethical maintenance for one's community...

of course people have their own views as to why they believe what they do; we all have a personal relationship with divine manifestation/creation;

i know little, i am just a fool...

I have read this thread and still haven't heard an answer why one verse in Leviticus is still valid today when the rest of the book isn't. I'm not bashing Christians either....I am one myself. My parents are Christian and they have the intelligence to know what is real in the Bible and what is made up by man. Furthermore...they love me for who and what I am...a caring, thoughtful, nice, loving man (who happens to be gay)...ooops guess I'm going to hell then? Whatever!

The answer will not come. People cannot defend their actions without seeming hypocritical. The sad fact is that their is no right or wrong answer. Before the scripture Lev 18:22 ever crossed these people's mind, they just plain ole hated homosexuals. They use the bible to legitamize their hatred for them or at least their lifestyle. Are they doing it to help others hate homosexuals? Are they doing this to help them sleep better at night? Are they doing just because they have nothing better to do? I don't know. I wish I did, but I have no clue why the people choose to hate homosexuality like they do.

Maybe I'm just fighting an uphill battle against these people who are hating others just because of some small difference that can't possibly be spread through genes or close contact. Why are people so mad at someone who LOVES someone of their own gender? I'm not gay, but I'm not judging those who are.

One other really good one that I forgot about...

Raping a virgin: Deut 22:28 If a man find a damsel that is a virgin, which is not betrothed, and lay hold on her, and lie with her, and they be found; 29 Then the man that lay with her shall give unto the damsel's father fifty shekels of silver, and she shall be his wife; because he hath humbled her, he may not put her away all his days

This is in response to the homosexuality debate. Yes, in Leviticus 18:22, the bible does expressly forbid homosexuality

No it doesn't. It prohibits sex with children. Find an interlinear or a Hebrew Tannakh and a good dictionary or lexicon, and translate the words in question. The text clearly says:

"You shall not lay with children (most often translated men or mankind, while the same word is translated children elsewhere) the way you lay with your wife (translated women or womankind in general, allthough the context here clearly shows that this is about your wife, for it is only your wife you are allowed to have sex with, and the very word means wife, not womankind). It's disgusting!"

I have also come to the conclution that the stories about when Semjaza and all the other watchers stepped down from Heaven to have sex with the "daughters of Man" as seen in Genesis 6, may infact be about this very sin which has been hid in Leviticus 18:22: Pedophilia, or sex with children. This could easily explain how the offspring were giants. Compared to a little girl, let's say ten years of age, a newborn baby is like a giant. I am horrified of this new discovery. May God judge them!

Mikromarius

Let's see: bible.crosswalk.com... is the one I use. It has all the features you need to study the bible online. A good interlinear and several bible versions, lexicons and dictionaries.

Well let's see. leviticus is old testament. So therefore any christian who goes by that isn't following the new covenant (new testament) Oh yeah homosexuality is wrong in the eyes of God. Read the book of Acts. This is my first post. Nice meeting everyone!

Book of Acts? Where is homosexuality mentioned there? The only place in the bible where sex between persons of the same sex is mentioned, is in the works of Paul, but this must not be confused like some kind of condemnation of homosexuals. Paul explicitly speeks about married men and women, who commit fornication with their own kind. He is not refering to homosexuals, but hetrosexual men and women who go bisexual and thereby brake the oath of marriage in a, for Saulus Paulus, most shocking way. Go see for yourself!

Besides, Jesjuah confirmed the covenant, he didn't abolish it. You and all other Christians are bound by the same covenant Jesjuah died to confirm. There is no new covenant in Jesjuah, just a new school which at the time was infact very orthodox or Moschaic. Jesjuah didn't fight the Law or the Covenant, he fought the Yoke of the Covenant as Saulus Paulus underlines. This Yoke of the Covenant refers to the Levitical reforms after Babylon. Know today as the Talmud.
