Thanks Borek, while I'm fluent in spanish and I did take 2 years of french, I should "technically" be able to understand at least 50% of portugese. But I haven't practiced french in YEARS and also there's the fact that spanish language can change drastically from one south american country to another.

Yeah... still, I doubt you'd understand the dialect spoken by the people in the north region of Brazil, hehe.

So here's the English transcript of the video… I noticed that the whole video has 4 parts, but I have no time to translate them all, hehe:

---------------

In the sky, there is something more than stars…

*bark* *bark*

Wellaide: "They were affected by light beams, which prevented them to move any muscle, even to call for help. Then, the pain became unbearable and they felt deeply weak, like they were being doped."

- 2 months earlier -

Other people that live in that region also saw the mysterious light and are attacked by it.

*random talks between the fishermen, discussing where they are gonna sleep…*

- Moments before the sunrise -

Fisherman: "What is that?" "Arghhhhhhh"

One of the fisherman is dead.

Wellaide: "What called my attention is that, when I treated someone from a region called Airi and another one from Candeuba, they were apart for more than 100km. And all of them told me the same story, not knowing each other, not having ever talked with each other, and at the same night, at around the same time or even at different time."

Dozens of people got desperate, the fear of the unknown causing panic.

Emidio: "It happened like that… I looked up to the roof and I saw a sort of lamp turned on directly into my thigh."

Newton: "I even slept underneath a table at my home, for fear. Fear of that thing."

Nelsonita: "I thought it was sent by God, as a punishment"

José: "For some, it could be a demon who were attacking Christians, but most of them just did not know what it was. They just showed extreme fear."

*The lower subtiltes are just translating the song's lyrics…*

Good evening… our show continues to exhibit strange facts that challenge specialists and cause fear. Tonight, you will get to know an amazing story about flying saucers, in a region composed of 20 towns known as Salgado, in the coast of the State of Pará, north of Brazil. Ii all started with a light in the sky, following by several attacks against the people, and then, panic spread throughout the whole region. The population armed themselves to fight back the aliens. Real facts or collective hallucination? Either way, air force men were called to investigate those UFOs. During 4 months, the most important and secret operation, so far, was conducted in Brazil… called PRATO ("dish") operation. The name PRATO is a term internationally used by ufologists to designate flying saucer.

Ademar: "PRATO operation was, as far as we know, so far, the only confirmed and documented time where a military team of a country's Army was involved directly in a process to get close, identify and possibly contact with extraterrestrial beings, non-humans, from other regions of the Universe.

Ricardo: "PRATO operation is one of the most fantastic cases we have in brazilian ufology.

The commander of the secret mission was this man, Air force colonel Hollanda Lima – Captain at that time. He kept a secret for more than 20 years. But in 1997, the colonel decided to speak up. He went to a TV show Fantástico (Globo TV network) and soon after, gave an amazing interview for the UFO magazine. He told details about PRATO operation.

(continued)

"Let's do the interview, Colonel?"

*nod*

"Dad, the documents you asked are here."

* colonel Hollanda introduces his family and the ufologists*

"Just out of curiosity, Colonel, why did you decide to speak only now, after a lot of time?"

colonel: "If I don't tell what I saw, tomorrow I might be dead, and this story dies with me."

colonel: "My involvement with PRATO operation started with the information given by the mayor of the region where these things were happening…" "Even before the air force got to the location, we were told that the population was afraid. Panic was everywhere.

*prayers*

"If this damn 'chupa-chupa' shows up, we'll kill it."

"He has a huge head."

*several light beams*

"Arghhhh" *yells*

José: "… around here, if the light passed would hit a person… Our weapons here, you know, are sticks, stones, a loaded rifle.

José: "The people were terrified… this light beam at night had already attacked several people… The whole community got together in only 3 houses. They kept praying, sometimes singing religious songs.

Carlos: "The people were in panic, the hospital in Colares was practically a room for miracles."

After the attacks against the people, the only physician in the region, Dr. Wellaide, cannot manage to treat some many victims.

"Doctor, she can't speak nor walk…"

Wellaide: "Where are you from?"

"We are from Candeuva… aren't you gonna save my wife, Dr? Look her here…"

Wellaide: "Stay calm… it's more than 100km from here."

"Look that, Dr. Wellaide… what's this?!"

Wellaide: "Maria, go to the front attend other people, let me take care of her, let me take a look".

colonel: "This light hit the women, preferably, on the left breast"

Wellaide.: "They were stretched out, straight lines, long and wide, as if something had imprinted there. There were always, always, two parallel holes, and if you pressed them, they wouldn't disappear. They were elevated from the skin as if two needles had penetrated the skin. Usually, burns take approximately 96 hours to turn in necrosis. But the burns done on the people, necrosis appeared immediately."

Carlos: "I was really scared to see what I saw in those people, which was the result of those lights, what they called 'chupa-chupa' ('sucker')

Colonel: "And it was called 'chupa-chupa', as in sucking the blood.

Several families left the city, including some authorities. The physician, the mayor and the catholic priest decided to stay.

Wellaide: "The population of Colares was stricken by a panic feeling and the city was becoming empty. The fear was that we would run out of medicines, food… because the situation was coming to completely chaos.

Ufologist: "And what was done about it, Colonel?"

Colonel: "Well, at first, we sent an air force team to the location, to restore order."

Ufologist : "And were you part of the team?"

Colonel: "No… at this first phase, I was in another operation."

Boy yelling: "The Army has come! The Army has come!"

*introductions between air force sergeant, doctor Wellaide, priest and the mayor.*

Osvaldo (psychiatrist): "Some people can share an emotional situation and these situations can propagate. For example, panic inside a movie theater or in a market, when suddenly someone announces there's a fire going on… so people start to run, tripping over others, deaths and so on… and then, maybe, there was no fire at all."

Thank you so much for the translation Borek. Very VERY useful, and very intriguing to say the least.

hmmm... interesting, very interesting. 3 cases, Collares, Airis and Varginha, all 3 having something in common. Unlike other cases where people simply view the saucers from afar, or cases of abduction in which R.E.M could be easily responsible (Rapid Eye Movement during the time of your sleep). Here we have the aliens "attacking" their "subjects". Mass hysteria could hardly be considered the culprit here as the case in Collares suggests, especially not three times, not to this degree.

I'm going to have to digest this information further and see what else I find. Anyone who has any further information regarding thesel attacks, or any opinions, please by all means post.

I guess I should mention as well, that a similar event occurred in a small town in Colombia (not the same city I used to live in, but nearby) where witnesses stated they literally saw the saucer land in their town and aliens came out attacking nearby residents. My father told me this story and while he wasn't there personally, some relatives on my step mother's side where. I can't remember if he said if it was publicized in the newspaper (I'm guessing it didn't, or didn't last long on the news since it didn't propagate to nearby cities) While I'm not sure of the source of the story, I do trust my father's judgment. He's been a very critical man and healthy skeptic. He believes something is out there, but not so much that he believes everything he's told and I highly doubt that relatives would lie to him or my step mom. So there's definetely something there.

Edit: some witnesses also believed these aliens were demons as the witnesses in the varginha case. They said that they were small and an orange color.

Well, the fact that aliens prefered to attack mostly left breast of women is quite odd, to say the least. I mean, would they be interested in maternal milk? Or were they trying to have sex?

Thank you for finding the time to translate this stuff. I gave a star to both your posts. May i ask what's your take about varginha?

borek, you beat me to it heheheh
I just found out about this thread and you actually saved me the trouble of translating for our fellow members.

I would like to add a few thoughts to this discussion:
Operation Prato is being forgotten because of the time... it's been long since it happened, and the circunstances (far place, low tech, humble people involved, etc) but in my opinion is the most important UFO event ever in brazil because people actually died from the unexplained burnings.

Not saying that Varginha and many others less known events are not important, they are, and I believe firmly that we here in Brazil have been visited on a daily basis for a long time, but the fact is that nobody is looking up the skies.

I have a relative which often sees and hear stories of lights flying around the hills and above the river in Joaçaba (Santa Catarina state)... and I know of some groups in Sao Paulo doing night-watches in the wild and sometimes getting some weird shots... also we have the same problem with main stream media that US and UK have: they simply ignore those accounts as fiction and non-events. Nobody investigates. Nobody talks about it.

As for the "secret bases", well.. I don't find it IMPOSSIBLE to believe that, but would like to have heard about it before. Which I haven't.

I think something like 90% of our population live less than 200 miles away from the coast line, which leaves a HUGE space with no one to be looking up... although there are amazing things left and forgotten in this "empty" area.

Peace

Thanks... it was a poor and fast translation since I'm not very good in switching languages in my head very fast, hehe.

About Varginha... well, I'm not an ufologist, I'm just someone who reads a lot about everything and try to keep an open mind. On a side note, I once gave an outreach seminar in a city near Varginha about Astronomy and the very first question someone asked was exactly about Varginha.

To be honest, I don't know. What I do know is that the ufologists who investigated the case are very respected and, from their reports, I can see that they did a good job there trying to uncover the truth. I think something out of normal happened there (not just mass hysteria), but unfortunately people did not find any ultimate proof that aliens were, in fact, in Varginha.

There are certainly unexplained facts, like the death of the soldier who was hurt (and poisoned) by the alien. The problem is that what ufologists mostly got, in the end, are testimonies from anonymous officials (who confirmed the alien/flying saucer version), besides of course interviews from the people who saw the UFO and the aliens. Brazilian ufologists are pressing the government/Army to disclose what it knows about this case, but as far as I know, they had no luck.

We also have reasons to believe that US was working together with Brazilian officials in the Varginha case. People also reported that there was a USAF transport airplane at the airports of Sao Paulo and Campinas, where one of the aliens was taken to be studied.

Well, I just translated the first part of four... feel free to translate the rest.

Yeah, I'm not very old, so I can't say I followed that case when it happened. I don't know much about it either, unlike Varginha, but now that I have been reading more, it was quite a case.

Well, specifically about Varginha, I think it was well covered by the media at the time. At least, everybody in Brazil got to know and discussed about what happened in Varginha. But again, only at the time. As with a lot of things around here, Brazilians don't have a good memory, hehe.
