So Soldiers did this? This is the problem, people think of them as something different then ordinary men when they lable them with "Soldier", but they are nothing more than average men with a little more power and a little less law.

I've heard worse stories than a 14 year old being raped and burned from our own streets of America, as well as any other major nation on the face of this world. Why is it so difficult to imagine that "soldiers" are capable of this? As long as we didn't let them get away with comitting such a horrible act I don't see why a large fuss is made over it.

Did it occur to you that there are a lot more murderers in the camp you claim to be siding with? The MSM is far from perfect, but to completely write them off whilst taking the Arab media at face value is foolish.

I already said I have friends in the military.

I already said that I won't acknowledge allegations that I am biased or think they are all nutjobs.

I already said that I have to repeat myself on ATS... alot
It's ok though...

just seriously, get the idea people. American soldiers have a bad reputation because of Iraq. I was quick to assume the worst, and I was wrong. No need to take it personally... but Iraq is a slow burning funeral pyre for my country and I'm sick of soldiers thinking they are owed ANY apology for their bad reputations.

Shot and/or blown up thousands of little children? Can you back that claim up as to who was responsible for the deaths? There's no doubt that collateral damage happens over in Iraq, but if you're gonna give a statistic, please back it up with hard fact.

We don't know the full story yet. It is all just speculation and supposition.

For reasons that are as yet unknown, at least one Iraqi Army soldier allegedly opened fire killing Capt. Rowdy Inman and Sgt. Benjamin Portell, both of whom were assigned to the 3rd Squadron.

CNN

Okay, so one source claims to know, the other says it's under investigation. Either way none of you have enough information to refute anything. Just examples of good and bad behavior on the part of soldiers. Sorry thats not enough to project what you want to have occurred on an issue that isn't fully explained.

When did the media become a paragon of honesty, by the way?

The media gets it wrong sometimes, too. Even worse, they occasionally do it on purpose. They also may not have the full facts as of yet. Just because it isn't in an article doesn't mean it didn't happen or wont get reported. If you think that the men and women involved in disseminating information to the public don't have biases and agendas you are incredibly naive. Fair and balanced, indeed.

Anyone who read anything regarding the early reports of what happened to Private Jessica Lynch knows that. Hell, even she herself stated they were trying to make her into a sort of "Joan of arc" rallying point. There were quite a few different versions of her tale and it became obvious as to why eventually.

Yes folks the media does manipulate the masses.

It goes on BOTH sides of the fence, in Arab countries as well as the US (or any other "English" speaking country). It's called "spin" and they do it all the time. If you think because you live in the US you don't get it...then I guess you are exactly what our leaders what you to be.

Welcome to the real world where the people with information actually lie to you.

Go figure.

No, actually go figure it out before you exclaim "it's not written in the article therefore it didn't happen" or "this article says it happened therefore it must be so".

You guys need to stop the insults and relax.
All of you.

p.s. That comment out the troops being nothing but "ghetto trash", as if they are worthless, brainless and expendable is one of the most shamefully callous things I've read on this site so far. If a soldier from a "ghetto" decides to commit him or herself to service of the country they get no disrespect from me.

Maybe the poster of the comment can make such statements from the comfort of their suburban bubble or they are plainly a bubble head. Either way that was lame.

Some soldiers are from ghettos and they are much better men and women than the coward who berates them online while they are in the trenches.

I do not agree with the war as well, I wouldn't even go as far as to call it a war, its more of a policing a nation. We have no clear enemies, no clear short term goals, and no clear end. Therefore I don't even really think of it as a war, the problem is the soldiers can't be blamed for the war they are just doing as told as im sure everyone agrees with me. However they obviously aren't told to commit war crimes such as the ones you spoke of, but things like that happen when you arm men with already bad morals and then put them in a stressfull situation with no end in sight.

Some of these people are on their third or fourth deployment to Iraq, which compensates for about 40 months down there watching the Local Nationals blow up their own land, maim and murder their own civilians, and rebel against any sort of progress that could be hoped to be made.

Look up the civillian casualty counts your own damn-self.

'Collateral damage' as in little 4 year old boys getting shot in the face while playing outside their home? Yeah... Iraq is just great. And don't worry, war statistics are imaginary.

I have no patience for all the people who down-play the consequence of war. I don't care who you know fighting out in Iraq, little children shouldn't be dying, period. It continues.

I did read a story on the MSM internet about 2 American soldiers being killed by an Iraqi soldier. One was a Captain and one was a Sergeant. Nothing was mentioned about the kicking of a pregnant woman. I will side with the American military on this one until I have proof positive of something else. American soldiers being shot by Iraqi soldiers who have ties to insurgent groups is nothing new in Iraq.

Thats an appalling story, no wonder no intelligent life would want to visit this place, we're all too busy celebrating killing each other. Why cant we all just get along side by side, I have a dream, as martin luther king once said;

"I have a dream that one day every valley shall be exalted, every hill and mountain shall be made low, the rough places will be made plain, and the crooked places will be made straight, and the glory of the Lord shall be revealed, and all flesh shall see it together."

"This is our hope. This is the faith that I go back to the South with. With this faith we will be able to hew out of the mountain of despair a stone of hope. With this faith we will be able to transform the jangling discords of our nation into a beautiful symphony of brotherhood. With this faith we will be able to work together, to pray together, to struggle together, to go to jail together, to stand up for freedom together, knowing that we will be free one day."

Violence only beget's more Violence, Bloodshed only Beget's more Bloodshed, Why can't people just try to live in harmony and not kill each other so spectacularly?

Is this the future youd want for your children? The ideal that force and a gun is always the answer?

After reading all of the posts in this thread I can honestly say I am surprised at the amount of ignorance being displayed. I know the idea of someone beating a pregnant woman is disgusting, but a lot of you are judging these guys way too soon. There are so many factors that you have to weigh before you can make all of these allegations.

What is even more surprising is most of the "Soldiers are rapists" posters have probably never been over here or even in a combat situation. How can you judge people on a situation that you cannot even fathom. And I am sorry, but seeing a movie or having a friend in the military doesn't even come close to being good intel or knowledge. Do everyone a favor and don't post on something you know nothing about.

Holy Man of GOD! are we paying our soldiers to kick pregnant woman now? what a shame. those soldiers didn't deserve to die, but get their butt's kicked and good. and reported with video. But maybe Ceaser knew that no one would believe him, so he decided to shoot them instead. Sounds like self defense, much like Mr Burns from Texas.

I think that the US soldiers are mentally unbalanced and need to see the overall picture. they are feeling too superior and loosing sight of reality. I wont say i'm glad he killed them, but it's self defence.

So we are "mentally unbalanced" now...wonderful. I am glad you have saved me a trip to mental health. You honestly think that we are all a bunch of scumbags over here? Where do you get your info from?

I'm not saying every american citizen is mentally unbalanced. but some marines serving out there need to get checked once in a while. I've taken some psychology courses, as I've said before..mental health is very important. and some people just are not mentally right..and being trained to kill does not help. but let me ask you this, why is it ok for you to kill and not for me? you are fighting for freedom, so If I kill someone in the street I go to jail. If I kick a woman in the womb I go to jail, but it's ok for a united states soldier? you see the problem..that's where the mental imbalance comes from. Angry marines serving in Iraq should take psychology tests once a month and sent home if they show any type of overconfident behaviour.

Why can we kill and not you? Simple. We took an oath to defend this country and do whatever needs done in order to keep it safe. We sacrifice things that you cannot even imagine and don't even ask for a thank you. But when we are verbally attacked like some have done on this thread it is definitely a stab in the back. But that's alright, I will continue to do what I do so that all of you can keep on living life like you do.

Nobody ever said that it was okay for us to hurt any innocent person. If I were to witness someone kicking a pregnant woman or any other innocent person I can guarantee that they would be punished severely. Just in the last year there have been several soldiers/sailors/marines that have been convicted of crimes. Just remember, it seems simple watching it on TV but when you actually see what goes on here...completely different story.

So whatever it takes eh? so if they told you to kill your mother you'd do it! That's cold. that freedom card has been throw around like a million times. Americans got their freedom in the 1870's. we are no longer required to fight for freedom..we have it already. I wont say thank you for doing nothing. 1. you are not fighting for freedom..2. you are not defending people on the streets here..the police do that. 3. invading a country doesn't count much for a sacrifice.

I still don't understand how beating up babies in iraq keeps me safe.

American people may spend "trillions" on porn as you say (I know I have spent my fair share on it), but we aren't the ones spending trillions on weapons. It is our government doing that. Saying that we can control our governmtnt's actions in some way is like saying Iraqis should have ousted Saddam... easier said than done.

As for helping rebuild the nations we have devastated... with the exception of Iraq, we have (I guess we are not done devastating it yet). We spend more money on foreign aid that all other countries combined, and have rebuilt every country that we have won a war in.

Maybe a month along...? Maybe a terrorist? How sick to try and defend kicking a pregnant woman. MAYBE the murdering American soldiers just love to kill!! Ever think of that? What about the case where the American soldiers raped and murdered an entire family? No doubt you would blame the family, saying something ridiculous like ' Maybe she worse a short skirt' or ' maybe the family were terrorists '..You would give ALL soliders a free pass on murder and rape, just because they wear the flag of the USA, right?

It sickens the civilized mind to read posts where the people defend murder by our guys..just sick. Those ' brave ' hero's you believe should be alowed to kill at whim should be taken out and shot after a trial. we are no better than any other human beings on earth...you have obviously been reading too much propaganda, and it is plain that you are a Fox news drone as well...only the Fox crowd could defend murder and beating of the women with child...sick, totally sick. Stop defending the indefensible and read for a few hours all the transcripts of the trials of the soldiers who have been charged and convicted ( not near enough ) of horrible crimes over there...then tell us how they are really brave hero's..

May every American soldier who abuses the law and human rights be shot dead by the defenders of their territory against the American imperial criminals stealing and murdering their citizens for purely monetary and political goals. May the people who defend the filthy murderers find themselves at the mercy of the same cretins and killers who have shamed the image of American soldiers for all time.

And to those of you who can see NO EVIL when it comes to our own, shame on you!! You would allow murder and rape and abuse of pregnant women because ' WE ' are such special and wonderful people, yes? NO!!We are no better than anyone else on earth and a lot worse than many. Get real and understand that the people who run things here are the scum of the earth, the worst and most profligate criminals that has ever been seen: The criminality of the Bush cabal outranks the worst Mafioso of all times for sheer brutality and criminal activity.

Maybe is a few thousand of our ' heroe's were killed in a single day over there the people wouyld wake up and smell the coffee: We have no business being over there, it has been proven over and over again that we are there based on lies, and more lies..for the profit of the few. The Bush criminals are the worst sort of scum on earth and to imagine that we have some mandate to go around the world taking what we want and killing anyone we want, you are mistaken. The rest of the world will not stand by as Bush takes over the world. I am glad that the resistance fighters at least have the nerve to take action against killer soldiers when we do not: We give them medals!! they deserve the electric chair!!

And its disgusting and an insult that so many people are just HOPING that this story is true...so they can point and wave their finger saying "see! see! those horrible americans!!"
Also, if this story were true...how come it hasnt been picked up by Human Rights groups such as:
HUMAN RIGHTS WATCH.ORG

[edit on 6-1-2008 by greeneyedleo]

Well Bingo! "...sounds like a fabricated story..." Sure as hell does, and the original poster hasn't since come forward with anything more solid. But Leo here is expressing a well reasoned opinion and presented it as such. And I agree. I just can't tolerate those who say "Propaganda" because they don't like what they hear. That's how war crimes (and torture) become business as usual. I'm giving Leo points for having his head on straight.

And Grady Philpott, my old sparring partner, yes, you've got good men and women over there. I hope they all get home safe.
