This add that comes up in the left is excruciatingly irritating! Sometimes I listen to music on my pc, sometimes I leave the volume up loud and turn off the music sometimes this add scares the poo outta me.

adds with sound suck bigtime, especially when the sound starts without you wanting it to.

We should ban ads with sounds - PERIOD.

If that smilie ad yells at me one more time I'm going to put my fist through the screen. :shk:

all adverts are blocked on my computer
none of the google ads work
so all i see are Black areas

not good for sites that expect me to see their ads
but saves me bandwidth

How do you do that? You don't see one ad on anywhere on ATS site pages?

Be careful to admitting the use of ad blockers. They are against the Terms and Conditions. I'd bet a lot of people here use them but will never admit it because of the rules against their use.

If you are interested in blocking ads from all websites, check out the Fire Fox extension Ad Blocker Plus. I am in no way endorsing the use of such a product within ATS, I am just confirming their existence.

I just remember seeing something a while ago that its against the T&Cs to prevent the display of any ads on ATS. Dunno, maybe they have changed it now???

not being rude, but wtf?
i keep a blocker on for one reason i browse loads of sites at the same time
and dont really want my computer slowed down by popups and adverts (esp flash ones as it Jams up my explorer)

and ATS seem to use quite a few flash adverts which Jams my browser

anyhow does it make a diffrence?
not like i am going to click any advert anyway

edit: if its any concelation i get the text adverts
just not the Image ones

Its because without those adverts there would be no ATS. Advertisers pay a premium for those spots and thats what keeps ATS running at the level of sophistication we see today. If ad blockers were allowed, then the advertisers would see a huge drop in click through rates (even if they are quite low anyway) and stop paying. It is part of the contract ATS has with its advertisers that their ads will be visible to all members.

Unfortunately the types of ads we see are not controlled by ATS, but a third party (as far as im aware). So if we are not happy with what ads we see, we should (or the mods) be getting in contact with them.

Hey if you want to make ATS an even better place, try clicking one of those ads every now and then to boost the statistics and the desirability of that ad slot.

Exactly.
I had Fergie start singin' at me everytime i moved my mouse slightly off to the right the other day. I can't stand Fergie, drove me bloody nuts!!

Plus a lot of the time i'm online the rest of the family is in bed, all i need is something blaring out of the speakers when you least expect it.

( edit to add, btw i do click on the silent ads from time to time in an effort to be a good member.
)

There's one banner ad here which isn't just annoying, it's just plain dangerous. It's for Chrysler cars/jeeps and shows a range of vehicles - but also has a silvery flicker effect. My bro felt unwell one night, he's got photo sensitive epilepsy, and felt it was the ad which was making him unwell. He knows "the signs" and simply clicked ATS off.

I don't mind ads as such, helps keep the place running, but that ad needs pulling.

Wow, I laugh at all the "I Hate Ads" Threads and the complaining about being scared from the noises.
It never happens to me. Ever.
Wanna know my secret?

My computer sound is always set at "mute".

I only unmute it when there is something I need to hear. Video sound, etc.

I have yet to experience the jarring noises coming from the ads on ATS.

I don't know from "ad blockers" but I do use a popup blocker. When I'm logged in, I never get that little warning bar saying a popup was blocked, so I'm guessing that's ok. And I always surf with the sound turned all the way down. I only turn up the sound if I'm listening to a podcast.

The ads don't bother me, and in fact I occasionally see one that looks interesting and click on it. It wasn't too long ago that one sent me to a website that turned out to be pretty interesting, but of course I can't remember what it was, now.

Anyway, I don't find a banner ad at the top and ads down the right side to be intrusive, and with the sound down, I clip along just fine.

Yeah, that's a necessity when you're looking at adult-oriented material errrrrr... I mean stock market updates.
