'War on terror' has been a 'disaster': British think tank

news.yahoo.com

LONDON (AFP) - The US-led "war on terror" has been a "disaster" and Washington and its allies must change their policy in Iraq and Afghanistan to defeat Al-Qaeda, an independent global security think tank said Monday.
The Oxford Research Group (ORG) said in a report that Western strategy since the September 11, 2001 attacks on the United States had failed to extinguish the threat from Islamist extremism and even fuelled it.

It only seems like a disaster if you think the war is meant to be won. Its not, and anyone looking at it should realize this. They need a constant war going in order to keep the fear up, in order to control people. Its that simple.

Reuters has a report on it as well: Report says war on terror is fueling al Qaeda

As usual, CNN and Fox News says nothing about this.

Fox News runs the Petraeus: Iran Fueling Iraq Violence story instead to get support for attack on Iran.

Gotta love this world we live in...

First class observation there,Copernicus.Well said.
The report looks at Iran as well, and claims that the problems we now face in Iraq and Afghanistan would seem like chicken feed compared to a war with Iran.
Trouble is,the rulers are gagging for a pop at Iran-look what that will do to the price of oil...wasn't there some report out recently in the USA that said they expect oil to be at $2oo a barrel by Christmas?
The rulers would love the profits they get from $200 barrels-thus a war with Iran would suit them nicely, after all its not their friends and families who are getting their guts and brains smeared over the streets of Iraq/Afghanistan/Iran to fight for the oil is it?

The masses are less than bugs to these rulers. They couldn't give a Uknow what if it took 10 million deaths to control the middle easts oil supplies, populations, governments.
Thats the kind of people who run the show these days....engineered wars, industrialized lies, population control..you name it.
Soon the words "freedom" and liberty will be removed from existence-already their meaning has been twisted into a darker form by the murdoch wing of the NWO.

On Afghanistan, the ORG said ousting the hardline Taliban from power in late 2001 had been of "direct value" to Al-Qaeda and militia sympathetic to its violent Islamist ideology were now re-invigorated, it added.

So AQ hoped for the Taliban to get deposed and for 70% of AQ's leadership to be killed or captured? Are they implying it would have been better for us not to have struck back militarirly in Afghanistan?

Rogers said the United States and its allies needed to better understand the roots of the Al-Qaeda movement and its support base and systematically undercut it through policy changes at every level.

If we only understood them then we wouldn't be attacked, lets change our ways so as to not invite them to attack us. Utter Drivel from self proclaimed

We could, however, be described as "Quaker-inspired" due to our focus on non-military means for the resolution of conflict and our dialogue approach.....We are not formally affiliated with the University of Oxford in any way.

Hey what about getting AQ and their ilk to change their ways. It's seems to be only a one way change with the West being the bad guy for getting attacked and then responding. Oh, nevermind, they would probably get their heads cut off by AQ with their focus on dialogue approach.
