Harry Chapin -

Mr Tanner
A Better Place to be
Taxi

The Shortest Story

I am born today, the sun burns its promise in my eyes;
Mama strikes me and I draw a breath and cry.
Above me a cloud softly tumbles through the sky;
I am glad to be alive.

It is me seventh day, I taste the hunger and I cry;
my brother and sister cling to Mama's side.
She squeezes her breast, but it has nothing to provide;
someone weeps, I fall asleep.

It is twenty days today, Mama does not hold me anymore;
I open my mouth but I am too weak to cry.
Above me a bird slowly crawls across the sky;
why is there nothing now to do but die?

I can't even listen to his albums anymore, they're way too sad.

Although this is one of the most depressing songs i heard i still like it:

The Verve - The drugs dont work,

It is down to the individual how you perceive or feel about a song. Everyone relates to them in different ways. The saddest songs to me is The Calling - wherever you will go.

I hadn't heard this song in many years until today when it came on the radio as I was driving home.

He pretty much nails it...hard to write a more raw or powerful song with such harsh truth to it.

Tragic for anyone who has lived it.

Emotion Sickness, Untitled, Dearest Helpless, Black Tangled Heart, Ana's Song, Miss you Love, Steam Will Rise, Paint Pastel Princess- SILVERCHAIR

(so basically anything off of their 'Neon Ballroom' album. The lyrics are saturated with deep-seeded depressive tendancies, body dysmorphia references, suicidal leanings, etc. Daniel Johns is God for being able to capture the feelings and inner thoughts of a manic depressant so very accurately and vividly painting a picture whilst doing so with the intensely layered vocals and instrumentals.)

So Real, Hallelujah, Forget Her, ***I Know It's Over, Mojo Pin- JEFF BUCKLEY

(this man's lyrics are too true to life, and his voice is angelic and at the same time saturated in pain... another God.)

Wake up Alone- AMY WINEHOUSE
(the lyrics, her voice- it all works. The song is pure, and true.)

Song to the Siren- THIS MORTAL COIL
(haunting melody and words... always brings a tear to my eye)

Angie- TORI AMOS (or the Rolling Stones)

Sway- THE KOOKS
(especially the acoustic version: this song is about the person in your life willing to standby you when you're at your lowest)

Creep, True Love Waits, All I Need- RADIOHEAD
(Thom Yorke is Brilliant)

Not an Addict- K's CHOICE

Roseblood- MAZZY STAR
(Haunting sound)

Kissing You- DES'REE

The Lost Art of Murder- PETE DOHERTY
(Pete Doherty is a God)

The Man Who Sold the World, Heart Shaped Box, You Know You're Right, Something in the Way- NIRVANA
(Kurt Cobain- another modern musical genius)

One Headlight- THE WALLFLOWERS

That I would Be Good- ALLANIS MORRISETTE

***Skin, Mama- BETH HART
(skin never fails to make me cry- the lyrics, the pain of her voice- it's beautiful in the saddest of ways)

***Swallowed- BUSH

Bother- COREY TAYLOR

Tears in Heaven- ERIC CLAPTON

Fields of Gold- EVA CASSIDY

Mad World- GARY JULES

Doll Parts- HOLE

Look What you've done- JET

Lightening Crashes- LIVE

Smoke- NATALIE IMBRUGLIA

Free Willy Theme- MICHAEL JACKSON (listen to the extended version- it's a bit "gay" but it never fails to bring a tear to my eye).

Wild Horses- THE ROLLING STONES

Breathe Me- SIA

Nothing Compares- SINEAD O'CONNOR
(this song is great for breakups, lost chances at love, lost lovers, lost friends/family members, etc... it's pure and heartwrenching)

How's It Gonna Be- THIRD EYE BLIND
(the ultimate 'lost love' song- you know, for the 'one that got away')

With or Without You- U2

The Drugs Don't Work- The Verve

This song had me crying like crazy when my close friend sent it to me after my very first break-up. She was like 'you have to listen to this and get all that crying out of your system'.

1st lady- Missing you
youtube

The song is not from any popular band and wasn't recorded that well but every time I hear it, it makes my heart sink.
