You are an idiot if you really believe this.

Lets not belittle someone just because they think differently than you. It's not fair to insult them for their opinions. He/She did mention, if you noticed, that it was his/her opinion. To personally attack someone like this takes away from the debate in general, as it serves to separate us into divisive groups. We're here to come together and share knowledge, not divide into groups over it. Well, at least I hope that most of us are here to learn.

If we're going to win the debate over gun control, we need to do it from a high intellectual plain. It's not enough for us to be on good behavior, we've got to demonstrate winning logic that does not resort to juvenile tactics. Even if we lose this debate, we need to be seen as having put our best efforts forwrad.

Some day, long after the gun bans have gone in to effect and some of us are vacationing behind Federally sponsorsed wire, thre will be a small group of people who will want to know what we said and what we did. If all they can find are insults and purile actions, they won't care about the second amendment for very long.

While doing some research I came across something from my own state, Missouri, that pertains to this thread:

Governor signs gun rights bill
Residents cannot have their guns taken in emergencies.

Jefferson City — Gov. Matt Blunt has signed legislation ensuring that Missouri residents could not have their guns taken away during an emergency.

The legislation spells out that no government or individual can decide in an emergency to take away guns and ammunition from those who lawfully possess them.

The House passed the measure Thursday on a 150-2 vote. The Senate also passed the bill overwhelmingly in mid-March. Blunt signed the measure later Thursday, his office said, but also planned a ceremonial signing Friday in St. Louis during the National Rifle Association's annual convention.

The bill is a response to the fallout after Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans in August 2005.

Move to Missouri! We love guns!

Those of you who are looking for a cause should consider getting a-hold of that legislation and passing it around to anyone who wants to talk about it. Remember that shared knowledge is community power. If you don't share what you know, you could end up being powerless. Blogs, e-mails, and other ATS postings can all play their part, if you take the time to write them.

Just in case you need one more example to motivate you, try clicking on the link I've just provided.
