What is the most beautiful weapon of war ever?

The most beautiful weapon IMO has to be the Claymore (Claidh-Mhor in Gaelic, literally meaning Big Sword).
The weapon was used right up until the 18th century and was a highly feared weapon, even in the firearm age.

A spear, you can throw it, poke with it, parry with it, and whack with it.

It looks good, has no moving parts and can be used as a curtain rail in peace time.

In terms of sheer beauty, I have to go with the early Italian rapier. The deadly grace of this weapon makes fighting with it a real form of art... however, as George Silver will happily tell you, it's crap in a real fight.

In more modern terms, I have to say that the flamethrower is the most beautiful of armaments... spreading tides of blossoming destruction over all in its wake.
