This intrigues me, i live in islington.
I hear what IsaacKoi is saying those balloons have been misidentified as UFO's before, but...
Maybe this is not lanterns or whatever...if there were video it would be much more interesting.
Great to have a local visit, and as i said in another thread, the amount of sightings this year and only at the end of the first month, is amazing and
positive.

Great...if you hear of any talk at the water cooler, let us know! This is a very recent alleged sighting so maybe we have to wait for the trickle-down
effect like O'Hare.
Can you tell us whether or not the newspaper that ran the story is reputable? Prone to tabloidish prose?

There is no mention of who took the photograph, or are we assuming it was the person being interviewed.
Maybe we should contact the Islington Gazette to see if we can get a copy of the original.

This is the first i have heard of it,
thats says something with me living in London and all lol,
Anyhows heres more on the story,
Experts are baffled by the phenomenon, but believe it could be linked to a meteor shower.
The Hermstmonceux Observatory in East Sussex said a cloud of comet dust had produced a meteor shower which peaked with a display of shooting stars.
And an earlier Ministry of Defence study into UFOs concluded that many sightings could be "glowing clouds of gas created by electricity charges."

any similarity
these could be very similar to the pictures that the ret. airforce colonel snapped recently in the states..
when pics do come in perhaps worth the comparison.....
They sure sound similar at this point,
correct if im wrong but meteors do no stop and hover before dissapearing .
Nothing about this smacks of natural phenominon.
i agree Mexico is another similar case.....
this is getting to be a familiar story world wide,i wonder if they are getting ready to say hello personally.....

Interesting, I wonder what D4ark Kn1ght would say about this pic, haven't seen him on ATS for a while, he's probably already out in the boonies.

Perhaps the increase in sightings correlates with the popularity of cellphones with cameras in them?
Nothing makes a sighting more popular than a pic.
I am glad there are more cameras out there, I wished I had one at one time when I had my own sighting.

Until there's a video that's going to be my 2 pence on the wholet hing.
Yes it looks like the 3 on the left is the current configuration of stars/planets that I see here in NYC (Which I think are Mars,Venus and Mercury)
with Orions belt 3 stars right after it in the middle. It may just be the angle of the camera that makes it look closer then what it really is.
This year is supposed to be particularly bright for venus and mercury.
Check this page out. It looks similiar.

Interesting indeed. Everyone here is familiar with the David Sereda video, "The Case for Nasa Ufos", right? If not, search for that title on
Google Video for reference.
Evidence: The Case for NASA UFOs - Part 1 <--- Or just click here, and go to
1:32:20!
In that video, NASA Shuttle Mission STS-80 is discussed... in particular the famous clip where 8 seperate "objects" are shown entering the frame,
fly to a point, and then stop and light up. They form a circle... and then the last one goes to the center of the circle and lights up as well.
Count 'em - There are 8
In the last shot, 7 of the UFO's can be seen - the 8th has not yet lit up in this shot. By the time the 8th lights up, some of the other UFO's
cannot be seen due to the camera in use. Please check the video for reference if you are not familiar with this event. There are 7 in a circle, and
one that lights up in the middle.

Well there must be enough voltage between them to light
up the hydrogen electron shells to emit red light.
Well hydrogen or some air molecules.
I do recall Tesla could make million volt coils.

I dont know if this is what you were talking about, but I guess I should mention that the red circles and lines were drawn by me for reference.

This was in the anon forum but the poster referenced THIS thread so maybe this is another pic of the London sighting. Could be a totally different
sighting entirely but I wanted to incorporate into this thread due to the reference. Kind of looks like Dark Knight's wife's photo that Loam posted
on page 1.

Now NUFORC has a report of the sighting.....
 Occurred : 2/1/2007 17:30 (Entered as : 02/01/07 17:30)
Reported: 2/1/2007 12:37:30 PM 12:37
Posted: 2/1/2007
Location: London (UK/England),
Shape: Circle
Duration:5mins
Multiple orange blobs floating with a white plane following.
As I walked along the street I noticed people staring and pointing at the sky. I turned around and saw numerous orange/red lights moving in the same
direction but in non-uniform formation. They were high in the sky and were followed by a white plane which appeared to be escorting them, it was
without doubt moving 'with' them. Each orange blob of light had no flashing lights on it, they didn't seem like helicopters or planes. The sky was
quite dark and I could not see if the objects were bigger with red lights mounted on them or if they were just floating lights. They moved slowly and
not in a way that seemed incongrous to modern technology. I thought they may be hot-air balloons but they seemd too bright and too high.
People in the street were watching the lights and laughing about 'aliens'. The lights then became obscured from view by the tall buildings. I
hurried home to watch the lights from my balcony on the 4th storey but by the time I got home (5mins) they had gone. A helicopter was circling the
area and did so for 15 mins. Probably a mundane explanation for this but it seemed very strange.
I am a not a believer in UFOs at all, I am of sound mind, 30 years old and someone I mentioned this to told me to report it to you.
Hope this has been helpful.
And the Contact International UFO Research group who were quoted in the original Islington Gazette artical have updated their website to include the
event here

I heard something strange on that night (although nothing like the pictures). I'm in North West London, but I could just about see the outline of an
aircraft, it's lights were very dim, and it was making a strange noise, I couldn't really gauge how far away it was. I honestly couldn't decide if
it was a Helicopter or a Plane. A very strange noise indeed. And it definitely wasn't the London air ambulance service, as I know their chopper can
often sound like a fixed wing aircraft, but It flies over so often that I instantly know what it is.

Nice find majic ninja, it looks similar to the sign D4ark Kn1ght was waiting for.
What's troubling me is that this same pattern of lights seem to be popping up all over the place.
Here's DK's drawing of the sign he was waiting for.

Not a great pic, but its just quick and roughs out what I saw in a pen and paper sketch.
The image will rotate anti clockwise, with the brightest of the orbs being the centre one.
Hope it gives you an idea of what im trying to convey.
