According to the following report, the radical leftist leader of Venezuela on his weekly radio/TV show was quoted as saying "Go to hell!" to US officials for "unacceptable meddling". Concerns were raised by US officials over legislation which would give Hugo Chavez authority to pass a series of laws by decree during an 18 month period.

www.foxnews.com
CARACAS, Venezuela — President Hugo Chavez told U.S. officials to "Go to hell!" on his weekly radio and TV show Sunday for what he called unacceptable meddling after Washington raised concerns about a measure to grant Venezuela's fiery leftist leader broad lawmaking powers.

The National Assembly, which is controlled by the president's political allies, is expected to give final approval this week to what it calls the "enabling law," which would give Chavez the authority to pass a series of laws by decree during an 18-month period.

On Friday, U.S. State Department deputy spokesman Tom Casey said Chavez's plans under the law "have caused us some concern."

Chavez answer to US criticism of his plans to enact wide sweeping reforms that could ultimately lead Venezuela to a Socialist statehood. Plans that will include the nationalization of such things as telecommunications, natural gas, and electricity.

Some believe Chavez is still bitter over a 2002 coup, which he claims the USA was involved in.

Why should the USA care if the leader of Venezuela, who was elected by a wide margin, plans to turn his country into a socialist state?

Well, he's against the meddling of the US in his country's affairs and he's right. Do Bush change his actions because of what Iran's president wants? No, he don't even change his actions for the people who elected him!

Chavez answer to US criticism of his plans to enact wide sweeping reforms that could ultimately lead Venezuela to a Socialist statehood.

And? What's bad with socialism? The present ``capitalism`` is ruining and enslaving the US.

Plans that will include the nationalization of such things as telecommunications, natural gas, and electricity.

Good for them if managed correctly.

Some believe Chavez is still bitter over a 2002 coup, which he claims the USA was involved in.

Not claimed. PROVED.

Why should the USA care if the leader of Venezuela, who was elected by a wide margin, plans to turn his country into a socialist state?

Exactly.

I think he's trying to create a Nazi like personality cult there. Instead of blaming everything on the Jews though, he's blaming it on Americans.

Nonono. BUSH is copying Hitler. Chavez is copying Bush.

Mussolini once said that communism is when government runs the corporations; fascism is when the corporations run the government. By those terms, the USA already is a fascist state.

Instead of blaming everything on the Jews though, he's blaming it on Americans.

And Bush blames everything on "The Terrorists."

To coin a phrase:

Why should the USA care if the leader of Venezuela, who was elected by a wide margin, plans to turn his country into a socialist state?

How very much off topic there Sofrico.. or .. does everything have to relate back to Bush? ... And does him doing what Bush does in your opinion make it ok?... I do not believe you even touched that issue. Answer that, are his actions ok or not? ... I have a feeling you will retort someting about dirty neo-cons or what ever.

I will say his actions are pathetic, he is a very paranoid man.. and those make the worst kind of dictators (Stalin, Saddam, Polpot, Hitler, etc)

The United States made it worse though when we sent in CIA to attempt a coup on his newly established government.... and failed. Go CIA another bay of pigs only this time swiftly swept under the rug.

If the duly elected president of Venezuela wants to nationalise his country's resources and infrastructure, how can any foreign nation, even the high and mighty USA, say otherwise? The economic direction of a nation is the choice of said nation; should it be contrary to the interests or ideology of any other nation, then TFB.

Hell, the USA might benefit from nationalized Venezuelan oil if they don't go Cuba on the place with some silly embargo. I'd bet that Chavez would be willing to sell Venezuelen crude to the USA for less than teh American firms have been.

As for this whole cult of personality thing, that is rather easy to say for an American or Canadian like myself, when our leaders have no personality to speak of.
And let's not start comparing people to Hitler now, Chavez hasn't embarked on any crusades for world domination lately. You know who has though...

Bottom line? Chavez, like him or not, was elected by a wide margin, unlike the currently sitting Canadian PM and the POTUS, so let him run his damn country as he sees fit. If the natives don't like it, they simply won't re-elect him. Hmmm...what's the word for that? Oh yeah, democracy!

The anwser to that is that Chavez wants to spread the revolution around the world, not only to Venezuela or latin america, and he has been inciting violent revolution, like other revolutionaries before him.

Chavez is a Communist, he has finally come out and declared what he is and what he wants to do.

What do you think the goal of the "revolution" is when he alongside some other "revolutionaries" say their goal is to destroy Capitalism and supplant it with Communism? Do you think that is good for the U.S. or any other country?

Chavez himself has said that in order for church officials to understand socialism they have to read the writting from Karl Marx and Lenin....

The following excerpt is part of his speech in Spanish.

www.terra.com...

In the above Chavez claims that Christ was more of a Communist than a socialist, that he was antiimperialist... He also stated that in order for bishops "to understand the socialism of the 21st century which is his goal, they have to read the writtings of Karl Marx and Lenin"

Apparently Chavez wants to become the Lenin of the 21st century with one difference, meanwhile Lenin's goal was to spread Communism in Russia alone, Chavez wants to spread it to "latin America and beyond", which means he wants to spread it to every country.

Imagine people being killed in the streets for protesting against this new mandate of Chavez in other countries where he wants to spread Communism, or people being laid off and threatened en mass for oposing him, which has been happening in Venezuela, that's the "red socialism" (Communism) Chavez wants to spread.

So tell me, is that any good news to any country in the world, or in specific to the west?

Chavez to Seek End to Term Limits in New Constitution (Update1)

By Alex Kennedy and Guillermo Parra-Bernal

Dec. 5 (Bloomberg) -- Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez said he will push for a constitutional amendment next year that would allow him to hold office indefinitely as a first step toward making Venezuela a socialist nation.

Because he's a whacked out anti-american communist who wants America to be destroyed. He said so in a major speech while visiting his good friend - the president of Iran (another freaky whack-job).

There is a thread about that speech somewhere here at ATS (or PTS).

Oh .. you forgot to mention in your list of his activities that he has basically taken over the press in Venezuela. They no longer have a free press. No freedom of speech. So how can the people there 'freely' elect anyone when they aren't even allowed to discuss the topics or the candidates???

From the Yahoo link in the OP.

The former soldier has said he would use the expanded powers to end the autonomy of the nation's central bank, create a national police force and boost state control over the nation's oil industry, which provides around 11 percent of U.S. oil imports.

From the Fox news link:

Among his plans are nationalizing the main telecommunications company, CANTV, and the electricity and natural gas sectors. [snip]... CANTV, partially owned by U.S.-based Verizon Communications Inc., was privatized in 1991.

Dear me, Chavez must be really getting under the Corporate Machine's skin if people are calling him a socialist, radical leftist, a nazi, communist, dictator, and anti-american. Those words are loaded with terrible negative connotations - what on EARTH has he done thats so BAD?

What do you mean he has taken over? Do you mean he has nationalised the press? How does a privately owned press represent freedom of speach?

Honestly people, the US needs to mind its own business - oh thats right, it is!

When is the US going to realise that nobody cares if they aren't happy about something anymore. Their allies are only their friends through fear and the rest of the world can't stand them. I know in the UK the US is a standing joke.

There is only one country who realistically has the power to bring mankind to an end and that country unfortunately is stupid enough to make it happen.

One word: OIL !!!

Venezuela is a key oil producing nation & is largely hostile to Uncle Sam!

Plus, there's always the relative proximity to the USA and key US interests in Central America ... nice little missile flight distance there

He's telling them to BUTT OUT, Venezuela's internal affairs are absolutely none of their business.

And Sofi is correct too, Rockpuck. If his remarks were directed at the State Dept., what he tells those goombas should go straight to the top, to the head honcho, the jefe, El Diablo. (that'd be Dick Cheney actually, but he'll get the message too)

Chavez will have to be careful though. Yes, those remarks will boomerang and he'll be told to butt out of the rest of Latin American affairs.

You don't see anything wrong with nationalization of private assets? That is a death knell for a country - you drive out those who invest and produce, and the only ones left after a period of time are the leeches.

But if that is what the people of Venezuela want, that's what they deserve.
