~No encounter. They just heard noises and B said he saw a light source if I'm correct. Nothing in the journal entry said anything about
encountering someone/something.

I guess he smelled it also...LOL seems like someone here at ats that resides in CA could possibly find out something? I dunno...could be bogus, but

Why would he keep the site up this long?

1313 Mockingbird Lane
is the address from the Munsters...
pretty cool story...the whole thing felt like "the Blair Witch" to me, once he mentioned it himself, I became even more suspicious...
good read regardless

Personally, I don't really believe it. The fact that none of the pictures of the cave art or anything came out is a little TOO convenient for a
hoaxer. Yes, it COULD just have been a freak malfunction, but it seems a little unlikely. And with a story like this, it's all you have to go on.
Regardless, it's a great read for a good scare. The possibility that it MAY be real adds even more. The guy is a great story teller.

Something else I don't understand is that he states the next time he goes back he's taking a gun.
Now, you don't have to be a ballistics expert to know that taking a gun into such a cramped place (especially with rock walls like a cave) is not the
smartest thing in the world. One missed shot in a small little cavern like that would ricochet the bullet off the walls, and most likely lodge itself
in you. This is another reason it seems a little too fictional or "action/horror movieish" to me to take too seriously. A sword or even a long knife
would be much more practical.

I thought you can get bullets which will do massive damage to flesh yet will turn to dust upon hitting something hard, such as rock.

Perhaps this could be a mission for some of us members here at ATS- I for one would be curious about the conclusion, and also the motivating
intentions and reasoning behind this story.
Exdog made a good point with the address- I never was a fan of the Munsters but it seems as if I recall this as being correct.
Seriously, the guy has talent, why would he not conclude this story?
Had me on the edge of my seat also when I first read.
Who knows? If it was real, what better way than this debunk it? Maybe he was silenced...maybe it is bogus.
All of his descriptions of climbing gear is correct, I am knowlegeable of same equipment he used, figure 8's, etc. The rest of the story should be
out here in cyberland somewhere!

Great story -- but I believe it to be fiction. There's a couple of points where things aren't right. This series of photos is of a real caving
expedition, all right... (and man, the tight crawl stuff is just CREEPY, isn't it?)
The "legend" is similar to a very real cave story where a man got trapped in a tight crawlspace like that. It's a well known tale among spelunkers
and a wonderfully creepy tale.
F'r instance... the pictures show a "dry cave." IF they are true pictures of a cave (and they may indeed be), the cave was formed by geologic
shift (earthquake) or by an underground river rather than the usual way. There's no flowstone there, no stalactites or stalagmites so it was an
inactive (dead) cave.
This kind of cave doesn't have crystals. To have crystals, you need gypsum. There are very few caves with crystals in them; the biggest is Sonora
Caverns here in Texas. So I'm suspicious of the "crystals" report.
But it's a great story. The last "message" that he writes (thanks for the messages and all that) pretty much confirms it as a "Blair Witch"
piece of fiction.

on the topic of WHY someone would go through all the trouble to write it, and not finish it, no-pop ups etc. Perhaps, it's someone looking for
a book or movie deal? It may be a good way of getting exposure...I dunno, just a thought

I just thought of something. Depending on what geographical location the story takes place, look at the date of the first journal entry > Dec. 30,
2000.
Anywhere in the Northern Hemisphere around the end of Decmeber...it's FREEZING cold !! During one of the journal entries the author goes into detail
explaining how a cave is cool in the summer and warm in the winter. I can understand this. It regulates the temperatures of above and below ground,
but nowhere in the rest of the story does he describe the weather above ground. He said he dresses appropriately for caving (T-shirt and jeans). I did
some research into temps for this date. The avg temps for Kentucky hovered around 12°F - 20°F !! What fool would go out and explore caves in this
weather ?!?!
Also, the caver mentioned in the story ( Floyd Collins) died in Sand Cave (Kentucky).
I named the passage Floyd's Tomb, after Floyd Collins. It seemed to look like the tight spot where Floyd spent his last miserable days on
earth.
If the author had been in Sand Cave, chances are he would be from the general location of Kentucky. Travelling to and from states with caves would be
an expensive hobby.
Just trying to shed some light on this "story".
