is that as you get older..the ringing in my ears gets more frequent and prominent. My thought is this...as you get older...your brain...like a hard drive on a computer...gets full. If you listen closely to your computer...when the hard drive nears full capacity...it makes a humming sound...so...as would your brain. Also..it seems that as you try to "overwrite/delete" something in your brain...in other words you put more crap in...some crap has got to go out...like...remembering to wipe your butt after taking a dump...no kidding. Anyhoo...ringing is caused by stress...you may not feel stressed...but you body knows...no biggie. Another question for the ATS community: How many of you have felt a "popping" in you head....like a little tiny stick of dynamite going off...and you don't feel "right" for a little while....hrmmm?

for anyone that hasn't read my post on BTS this is what I put. thought I'd put it here too cause I really would like to know if anyone else has had this

"does anyone else here suffer from tinnitus?
I've had a strange form of it for about 16 years. It's not just your standard ringing in the ears though, it's more like the sound of a geiger counter or a cat purring and I can almost feel my ear twitching inside.
I only get it in my right ear and only when I lie down on that side, so I've spent the last 16 years falling asleep on my left side which can be a pain when I've got my husband snoring and farting away at me.
strangley I also get it in my left ear when I hear water running.
I actually had a check with an ear nose and throat specialist about 7 years ago and all he suggested was to perhaps get a hearing aid to cover up the sound at night and that at least it didn't look like cancer. He said that i probably had the noise going on all the time but only noticed it when it was quiet at night(which I know isn't true) His english wasn't very good so I didn't understand much of what he said and I couldn't get him to understand that it seems to be more of a feeling in my ear with sound that just a noise on its own, so I never bothered going back.
has anyone else ever experienced anything similar?"

perhaps I am a human geiger counter picking up background radiation

I used to get ringing noises in my ears.
What it sounded like to me was... You know years ago on ITV I think it was, through the night they stopped broadcasting, and ITV just had a picture of a little girl in front of a chalk board? And a humming noise in the background? That exact noise.
I think it was ITV anyway, lol.

I don't seem to get it now...

Like someone else said... I also don't smoke, drink much, etc.
I listen to Heavy Metal, but not gone to any concerts... So I don't think I have 'damaged' my ears.

But I have always had problems with my ears... Ever since I was about 8, I have had to have my ears syringed (sp?) at the doctors every so often. I have been told that usually only older people need to have that done, and they don't know why I need it done a lot.

Hi Thecatalyst:

Every person perceives energy differently. Some people see auras, some feel it in their body, some hear voices, and some perceive it as sound! As it doesn't sound like it is troublesome, I think you are beginning to evolve and change in this area.

You should take note of the intensity of the sound, the duration, the pitch, how you are feeling when it happens, and what ear it happens to be in.

I have had this for many years, and I always welcome it, because I know it to be as simply a greater awareness and perception of energy. I hear it in sacred places and when the spirits are around. I think its a good thing. Perhaps it's time to start meditating, or Yoga. Or maybe you are already doing these things at that is why you are now growing spiritually.

Everything is just so random about it, when it happens, for how long, and at what pitches it ranges from. But one thing that is not different, is that it is always in a high pitch but in different high pitches (if you know what I mean).

For the longest time I have had this ringing tone that occurs at random times in my head. I have no idea what it is or how I got/get it to occur, it just does. Recently, I've been pondering about what the meaning of this is. If any of you out there have this occure (sp?) to you as well and have a theory as to what the cause is or what you think it is for, please reply.

People often get this with various problems to do with the inner ear, be it damage or a disease. My husband has Meniere's and has to deal with a ringing in his ears for the rest of his life.. you may also have an ear infection.
