What's your point? Those reports - that white phosporus ha been used - was officially confirmed by the Pentagon. I don't know what (political) intentions Xphile had by posting this thread, but he's certainly not up-to-date to the ''latest'' news.

US troops used white phosphorus as a weapon in last year's offensive in the Iraqi city of Falluja, the US has said.

Phosphorus not a chemical, its an element. Therefore, not a chemical weapon.

See, how easy is that?

No one is denying it can be used and have terrible effects, but call it what it is and is not a chemical weapon!!!!!

Chlorine gas was first used on the trenches in world war one. Every historian, MOD expert you can think of will call chlorine gas a chemical weapon.
But hang on: Isn't chlorine an element? Wow could that mean chlorine isn't a chemical weapon.
Your argument is like saying Arsenic isn't a poison it’s a periodic element.

My personal definition of a chemical weapon is when you use the chemical rather than simply the explosive properties of substances to kill-main people.

Also white phosphorus is hardly better than Siren. In fact I would much rather die from VX than phosphorous…

VX www.bt.cdc.gov...
Phosphorous: en.wikipedia.org...

So Is There Any Chance We Could Do A Swap?
Since we seem to be going backwards in time regarding both our attitude to war and attitude to inhumane weapons is their any chance we could legitimise VX but ban White Phosphorus? This would surely be the “humane thing to do” and would therefore be a general improvement in the world we live.
From the militaries point of view VX would be a extremely useful way of killing terrorists in Afghanistan (its heavier than air so should fall into caves quite well). And because it contaminates surfaces for years it would be hard for the Taliban to return.
As for the idea of our enemies not manufacturing it if we don’t: Well the reality is we don’t manufacture it and they do.

It's a chemical reaction that enables it to be used as a weapon.
Semantic game closed.

As for the real reason that WP isn't classified as a chemical weapon, it's because it's not the toxic properties that kills you. It's the fact that it burns you in horrible ways. Still, the definition of a "chemical weapon" is that it poisens you.

Of cource, any rational thinking human-being knows that is total BS.

Yeah, and anyone that takes the time to look up the MSDS (Material Safety Data Sheet) also knows it is:

physchem.ox.ac.uk...

See this little icon at the top?

It's not there just because Halloween is approaching.

They admitted it already.

If you want some denial propoganda, do it will more intelligence and don't talk about things that have already been admitted by your government.

The civilians were in fact, left in the sun and decomposed naturally.

So your saying that your "proof" that the US didn't use white phospherous is your mear opinion that the bodies decomposed naturally?

You do realise, that bodies take more than a week to decompose.

Pretty clear that they "did" use these chemical weapons in Falluja

they admitted it themselves they used it.

But interrestingly, there have been no charges filed, no uproar (at least that I've seen) and no one else seems to care. This just confirms that the US government is above the law.

Hooray for world domination.
