hi, just a quickie, and I've no idea if it's just me, but when I go to the home page, one of the ad aplications or what ever, takes aaaaaaaaages to load. the offending slow thing, is "tag.contextweb" it slows up loading the homepage like nothing else. Not everytime, but when it does, it stops me from getting on for a while. Takes about 1 minute to load a page, and we all know that if a page takes longer than a few seconds to load, then you clock the X and don't go on that page.

Please do something with it (preferably kill it in the face with fire)

A thread on ATS was actually blocked because google said it was a dangerous website which contained content from planetsmilies.com

Couldn't agree more. The audio ads are disruptive, discourteous and obnoxious. If ATS expects people to abide by its T&C's, then it needs to have consideration of its users/members as well, i.e. not insert intrusive audio ads.

I don't often listen to music while browsing websites, so sound isn't an issue for me... however, the moving content is. It's like trying to have a peaceful read with a television screen directly in my field of vision.
It's not an earth-shattering thing, but annoying enough to mention.

if I could have starred that, i would have. ATS wants people to use it, and use it sensibly, but crap ads like this, whichare not only intrusive, but if someone is browsing from work, potentially trouble making for its customers. Yet still falls foul to the advertising devil which is intrusion at every turn.

and yes. it IS intrusive.

The audio ads have GOT to go. Super low class as someone else mentioned. I will not give ad revenue to a site who would do something so discourteous.

Definitely. In fact it’s one of the most annoying internet adds I’ve ever come across.

It starts off taking over most of your screen with epilepsy inducing fuzz

And then leaves you with this

Which completely blocks all menu options. If you click the little ‘x’ to close the add it simply starts up with the fuzz screen again. The only way to stop it is too either click the add or use the ‘ribbon’ to get to some other section of ATS

Not sure is it helps but if you do click the add it comes up with this website
n4403ad.doubleclick.net... 3Dhome%3Bsz%3D728x90%3Btile%3D2%3Bbsg%3D110049%3Bbsg%3D110050%3Bbsg%3D110051%3Bbsg%3D127635%3B%3B~aopt%3D2/0/71/0%3B~sscs%3D%3fbs.serving-sys.c... om/BurstingPipe/adServer.bs?cn=tf&c=20&mc=click&pli=5589144&PluID=0&ord=350366?

And then diverts to this one (for me at least)…

I came on here to report this ad - it's extremely annoying!

I've been getting around via ctrl-F5.

Never actually been annoyed by an advert before.

There was one last night advertising dating or girls which redirected me to some dodgy site.
I was on my android smartphone (and no, I don't look at porn on my phone) and I just got redirected after visiting the recent posts tab... I guess the advert (I think it was a green banner) must have overlapped.

Sort it out ATS

Went downstairs after playing music and stupidly left ATS open (won't be doing that again)

Five minutes later the house is almost shaking from a fricking LOUD AS HELL ad, had to run upstairs and switch off the speakers.

This is the only website I've been to that has these - utterly obnoxious,[Snip]

I'm not able to see the ad.

I noticed the .au in the doubleclick URL - are you in Australia, and are only Australian members seeing it? (This will help get it stopped)

I hate the ads too, but at the same time, we have to keep something in mind.

The ads make money for the site that keeps it up and running. If we didn't have ads, we wouldn't have a site... without paying a montly fee for it.

I'm glad the owners are willing to remove some of the ads at times, that says a lot for them

Yep, without the ads this site would not last long. They pay the bills and running a site this size is not cheap. That's why the T&Cs specify (section 20b ) that all members agree to not use ad blocker software here.

The main thing is, posting especially annoying ads here is helpful. Majic (site administrator) started this thread so we'd have a common location to post, because while ATS/TAN needs ad revenue, members should be able to visit without being driven nuts by particularly obnoxious ads. Where there is a bad problem the admin here will try to fix it.

And hopefully it's clear from the fact that as one of the site admin started this thread, as a general rule neither the owners nor other admin choose the ads that are displayed. With a world-wide site like this one, most ads are placed according to our own regions, so what some members get will not necessarily affect others who are posting from different places.

This ad should have been removed from the rotation yesterday. It was in violation of our agreement with the network against the use of auto play ads, and we're sorry it slipped the through cracks.

Apparently the agency's weekend operations folks weren't paying attention like they should have been, they should be now.
