Worst Ads Ever! (SkepticOverlord's Ad Hitlist)

I just saw BP ad on the ATS front page that stated something like that they "were dedicated to the gulf", meaning clean up and such I suppose. Then, when I clicked on it I was sent to the BP site but it was an 404 page not found on BP's site.

Tongue in cheek joke maybe???

Is this a joke???

If it's not a joke, why would ATS allow it???

Did anyone else notice it???

The "404 page not found" thing really intrigued me when I clicked on it.

No more Mcdonalds ads either. Nothing like promoting fatty addictive foods to the ATS masses.

Agreed. And, these video ads which start playing wether you click it or not. That just happened to me for the first time, some stupid video starts playing and you can't stop it. At all.

So now I'm supposed to turn off my speakers when browsing ATS and make sure no Flash-crap shows up. Thanks a lot.

Thanks Heff, for pointing out this thread. Could the owners ask the ad agency to cut the upwards-floating ad that has taken over the right side of the main page? It blocks the article names, summaries, and links to the articles all along the right side. Since this one disrupts content (and major content, as the top articles on the page have earned that spot) it's actually one that seriously and drastically changes the main/home page and its content. Thanks.

Just read the thread that has been closed and people redirected to here. He was talking about the ads on the right hand side. What about the bloody ad at the top that opens if you accidentally scroll over it. I am far too old to be worrying about joining some tatooed muscle man at his gym. Especially if it's so bright that we would have to wear sunglasses.

Those top adds usually go off of your recent search cookies... So, whatcha doing later?

J/k, yeah the side popup add really is irritating. Can't even close it without it popping up another window/tab. I do enjoy the top add...did a search for life lock, saw the price, came back here... Clicked the ad, was about 10% cheaper so I signed up.

Edit- make an entry in the bacon thread and the top adds are delicious.

most obtrusive add ever, and it hangs around, cant avoid it and if mousey gets anywhere near he takes over my screen.

Fair enough, my brother's a gym freak but c'mon.. i hate the stuff, this add is the most annoying thing ive ever come across and not just due to content.. it's intrusive and makes me think less of the site for allowing it.

the "guy" in the add, is on the show "biggest looser".. im sure you've heard of it (lol) the whole "train till you have a heart attack, and then train some more you weak sloth" ideals that have stemmed from the reality fitness fad of late sicken me. Fit is ok.. but for many it's become a dangerous obsession, maybe not now.. but in a few years when things that shouldn't bend a certain way, or be strained so hard start to snap and fail..

So yeah.. it's annoying

and the housewife add.. well im a grown man, and porn aint illegal, but im on ATS, and it's not porn time....

just got exposed to a terrible terrible experience. The long oblong ad on the right hand side of the page was flashing at a high frequency, decided to click off page as it started to make me feel ill

This is not good. Please make these giant ads go away.

And there is a floater ad on recent posts that follows you and blocks out the things you are looking at. Why do members have to have ads floating at them???? Seriously, give us a little credit for not falling over ourselves to hit on floater ads and spend money on such inconsiderate corporations.

And do any of these comments receive discussion and bring about changes, or is this thread just to vent and then to feel like we did something about it, with nothing changing? Bottom line, any ad that covers content should be taken out back and floated away.

I totally agree, i do not mind ads, but when they play sound automaticly or *this is easily the worst ever* HIJACK my browser tab completely and auto play a video with music!!! wtf

Fantastic, tried to get on to ats and after logon, all I got was a page dedicated to some bid site with my congratulations that I had won an ipad. Guess what, I would much rather be able to get onto ats than chase some fictitious prize. It would be great if that sort of ad was scrapped but let's face it, this site couldn't be here without ads. so damned if we do or damned if we don't mention them

and what happens a couple of days later? the same ad took over my screen........ again! ....... so much for the admin wanting to make bad ads go away. yeah right!

That DART (red car) ad has got to go. It has a giant pop-up that includes loud music and it comes back OVER and OVER and OVER when you click the link to close it.

This one keeps opening up in a new tab on my tablet. Not sure if it's been mentioned here yet, but it's annoying. Can we get it added to the kill list, please?
