Dave,

Okay, I don't do hookers, period, but I deliver pizzas to a "Gentlemans Club" all the time.

I use that reference loosely.

They're knockouts,...but nothing I'd touch with a ten foot pole, let alone a ten foot co,....um,...rooster,...with if your mother paid Me, Dave.

Another driver asked,...years ago,...$35 for 15 minutes,...that was for room time,...and each "lady" had her own "tipping scale" for certain things.

I'm talking to a female ATS'er right now, and she's giving Me grief stating I'm full of it.

Dead serious.

I don't stick it in, when it might fall off after pulling it out.

In this thread we are discussing prostitution and experiences with prostitutes, yes?

And prostitution is illegal in the U.S., yes?

So this thread is violating the T & C, yes?

Dave you should start a thread about drug useage in Vietnam then we can all share our stories. Ussually that's not allowed on ATS but it appears you have somehow found a loophole.

I have agree here....I feel extremely uncomfortable that this subject has been included in this way here. Please don't lecture me about troops in active service, and Vietnam....I'm an army brat from a military family and the ex forces men in my family would simply not talk about this in public. And btw, I'm not saying that sex workers shouldn't be talked about, neither am I saying that lifestyle is shameful....absolutely not....or that you guys shouldn't discuss your experiences, but it shouldn't be here.

Vasillis's point about it being illegal is very valid. We have to watch our manners here, and decline from swearing like troopers like many of us do...myself included, and I have seen warnings recently for discussing drugs issues.

To the OP and others....

Why am I objecting? It's just too adult for an open forum, and some part of what's been posted, albeit humorous, gives the impression that prostitution is an acceptable part of everyday life. Is that what you believe?

Dave,

Here's the bit in the T&C that you might need to re-read...

1a) Offensive Content: You will not post links to images or use avatars and signatures that are offensive, abusive, distruptive and/or hateful. You will not use images, avatars or link to domains that contain gore, mutilation, pornography or illegal(2e) content. Doing so will result in removal of your post(s) and immediate termination of your account.

1b.) Profanity: You will not use profanity in our forums, and will neither post with language or content that is obscene, sexually oriented, or sexually suggestive nor link to sites that contain such content.

In particular, please look at the lines about links to sites with illegal content...although I'm sure you will argue that the image is neither illegal or pornographic, although it's strongly associated with both of these in your own words...and the bit about sexually oriented language or content...the phrase "solid 9" springs to mind amongst others.

Considering your role here as a moderator, I'm really shocked that you think this is acceptable. I find it really offensive and feel confident that I'm not the only one who does.

For the record this thread is over 2 years old. Dave wasn't a mod then. He was sharing his experiences of Viet Nam with the members.

My Dear Caitlinfae....

I'm responding to you as Dave Rabbit the individual ..... mainly because this original post was made when I was first invited to have a forum on ATS back in 2006, long before I was a Moderator or the co-host of ATS MIX. I was brought here because I had a huge fan base of the original Saigon show back in 1971 where I have been considered in history as the pioneer of Pirate Radio. The Bambi thread was established in a somewhat humorous mode as prostitutes, dating back to World War I, are somewhat part of the bigger picture. The original intent of this thread was geared towards those men who have served their country and survived. It was not put up as PORN or things along that line.

Quite frankly, you are only the 3rd person since the original post June 21, 2006 that has voiced a negative. I have a lot of history with the Vietnam War and my three tours there. Prostitutes are part of that history just as any war.

I'm curious if you were so offended by it WHY you would even click on it in the first place. It's kinda like TV..... if you don't like the show, change the channel.

DAVE NOW PUTS ON MOD MODE

The following is my opinion as a member participating in this discussion.

Caitlinfae, your opinions are appreciated and will be taken under advisement by the Mod Squad and Admin Staff.

Dave

As an ATS Staff Member, I will not moderate in threads such as this where I have participated as a member.

Ok, I can accept that....but he also posted replies in October and November last year and February and March of this year. Has he been made a moderator since then?

Still, I stand by my arguement that issuing performance scores to various assorted Saigon whores, and joking about Grandma including them in the family photo album is not suitable subject matter for what is arguably the best run site on the internet.

If they want to talk about this kind of subject, them either they should google for a suitable site elsewhere or start their own. I'm sure there are plently of options.

Dear Dave....

I missed this post...was posting myself.

PLease understand that I am not making light of your experiences in Vietnam...you will notice that I am from a military family myself, and know how it goes. I know it's important that you talk about what your experiences are, and how they affect you and others, and that the prostitute experiences are part of this. Of coursse your war experiences are important...but please see my point above about issuing scores. I know it's funny....I know it's important to talk...I just don't think this is the place to talk about it like that.

Perhaps you and I will have to agree to differ on this. I will not back down, I still think this is not an acceptable subject, humourous or not, for what is arguably the best run site on the internet. Apologies if I repeat myself here.

I hope you understand my point of view. Anyone should be able to click on any thread here and not be offended. Driven to distraction by endless and heated debate and passionate arguements, yes, of course...but not offended. Also, I cannot see how it fits in with the general themes of the whole site, namely conspiracies, paranormal and spiritual issues, and ufo subjects.

Cait (I hope you will allow me to call you that),

Again, this is ME PERSONALLY and not being a Mod or representing the thoughts and ideas of my fellow Mods or the Three Amigos. And, I don't want you to feel this is a battle against you, whom I have the deepest respect for. This is about history.... having a little fun with something without the porn meters melting or being set off. Bambi was and is an integral part of my story of Saigon and the Radio First Termer Shows. The success of the shows in Saigon and the fact they lasted 21 days, is directly attributable to Bambi and the others at Madame Ho's. Bambi is as much a part of that history as I am. She may have been a prostitute, but she was a close friend whom, at the time, I trusted with my life. As I said, I stand by the original intention of this post and will fight it's removal.

Finally, I totally respect your position on this and can see how, as a woman, you might be offended. That said, there are numerous women members here at ATS that I have become friends with over the last several years that were NOT offended, but found the historical aspect of it interesting. Note, I didn't say "They Loved It", I said they found the historical aspect of it interesting.

I think it is a matter of personal taste. Quite frankly, there are posts in threads that I find offensive because it does not follow my own personal beliefs about politics, religion or creation. BUT... just because I don't care for them, I respect that person's right to say how they feel or what they believe. In Saigon, I saw more than my fair share of CENSORSHIP and the dictation of what one thought was appropriate to what the TRUTH was. I am a firm believer in defending anyone's right to FREEDOM OF SPEECH as long as it does not hurt another person. This thread does not hurt anyone. It may offend because someone didn't live it, but it is historical and it is factual. The title of the thread says "Bambi - A Photo Of A Real Live Saigon Prostitute". Anyone reading it would know exactly what it is about and should not click on it if seeing the photo would offend.

As of this post, since 2006 there have been 14,894 VIEWS. Including yours, there have been THREE (3) that complained.

Again, my respects to you and your opinions.... so I guess we will have to agree to disagree with our positions.

Dave (The Individual)

Hi Dave,

Thanks for your reply, and I was going to leave it here but there are a few points I would like to clear up before we stop.

Firstly, I completely agree with our right to freedom of speech. I know how important Bambi was to you, and I'm not in anyway making light of your situation in Vietnam. The historical aspect is also extremely important, I agree, and the photo isn't what offends me...there is nothing pornographic about it.

It's some of the language that I find offensive, from you and other posters. I've already mentioned the "solid 9" comment, but ""the beasts I saw in the whorehouses of Frankfurt" isn't good either. Whatever she might tell you, I'm guessing that no woman, or very few, actually wants to be a prostitute...if women want to make that choice to work in the sex industry, talking about them in this way is highly disrespectful, in my opinion, and shows ATS in a bad light that you got away with it. No woman, prostitute of not, should be spoken about like this, especially in such an influential public forum.

Your idea that we misunderstand because we weren't men in a war situation if flawed really....we are all perceptive beings, and sadly can imagine a little of what you went though, and *do*understand that you need to deal with it from a humourous point of view. Do you think that your experiences in Vietnam mean that you can talk about what you like, where you like?

I wouldn't take comfort from the numbers, however....the fact that you've only had three complaints only means that people here are too polite and unwilling to criticise you, and are not blessed with my motormouth and inner rottweiler. Luckily for you. The fact that you've had almost 15000 view probably has a lot to do with the juicy title you gave your thread...if you had called it "Memories of my military service" or even "My Vietnamese "girlfriend".."...you would have got a lot less traffic. And I suspect that a fair amount of the 15000 would have been simply porn curious lurkers met with instant disappointment.

A few points that you and other mods havent replied to, and I wondered what your take on them was....

Firstly, discussion of illegal activity...a grey area here, I do admit, given the situation, but still in the T&C. Why has it been allowed? If we were discussing drug use or robbery, would we get away with it? I doubt it.

And what about your term as Moderator? Semperfortis defended you saying that the thread started before you were made a moderator. What about your subsequent posts?

Finally, I agree that it's important that you talk about this anyway you want...but is it suitable for a conspiracy site? I don't think so.

I know your experiences are important...please accept that I understand that, and it's important to share them. I also don't want to see a thread removed that you care so much about. Maybe it should be edited though. How would you feel about that? The people who need to talk about it will still find it, no matter what you call it.

I will look forward to your reply.

Hi Cait....

All this is doing nothing more than bumping the thread continually. We could go on forever with this, but with my ATS MIX obligations, I do not have the time to debate this with you further.

I respect your position on this and thank you for your concerns. You are a great member and seem to be building a fine reputation for yourself here.

A couple of things......

I have changed the title of the thread: BAMBI - A Photo Of My Saigon Girlfriend.

I didn't become a moderator until July 2007, 13 months after the original post.

You should listen to the ATS MIX Shows..... they are all FCC and T & C compliant.

All my best....

Possibly.

Not in all of it, there are counties in Nevada where it's perfectly legal. So you insinuation is wrong on the face of it. Besides, I don't think that OP was related to a US jurisdiction and your remark is all the more superficial.

So this thread is violating the T & C, yes?

No it does not, see above.

I detect a huge dosage of ad hominem right here, which Dave certainly not deserve.
