Heh, what if I don't want to live longer?

"Being in a religious community helps you make meaning out of your life," Hall suggested.

I guess those of us without religion don't have meaning in life.

So this study leader, Daniel Hall, is also an Episcopal priest. I'd say the results might be a bit skewed.

Nonetheless, interesting.

I agree with you, Kruel. I am often puzzled by the assumption that people who don't go to church don't have meaning in their life. Or that they don't know right from wrong. Or that they're not optimistic.

I think many probably really get something out of church attendance and the fellowship with friends and people of like mind, but I'm telling you, if I went to most churches, I'd probably have a shorter life, simply because of the frustrations and aggrivation I would feel.

As regards chruch attendance adding a couple years to my life... Those 2 years will probably suck, anyway. Someone else can have them.

That's awesome! I know that when I pray frequently, I feel healthier. I guess it's like meditation.

Eh?

  • Eat Right, more fruit's and veggies (yes, the icky green stuff)
  • Exercise regularly
  • Don't smoke or do drugs (damn hippies)
  • Drink in moderation (I hear red wine is best)
  • Don't stress and worry so much
  • Yes, even meditate, just take the time to sit and relax
  • Get the right amount of sleep
  • Stop trying to sue fast food joints for "making" you fat.

And apparently don't let people pray for you, ey, ProtOn?

If praying make's you less stressed, go for it. I just wouldn't put much faith into it as being a "cure all" or able to cure a life threatening problem. As far as prayer goes, it's just as effective as the placebo effect.

Live by the 2 "P's"!

Prayer
Positive Attitude

This will get you through life!

Prayer causes one to have expectations of that prayer being answered, and when it's not, one might think that god has abandoned and/or is punishing that person. I've been getting through life a lot better since I stopped praying. Now when I want something, I strive for it myself instead of constant hoping/being let down. I don't understand how one can be happy with prayer. I mean don't you ever feel let down?

I do agree that a positive attitude helps however.

Well does it have to be a certain kind of church? I know that the Church of Satan has the benefit of promiscuous sex...I suppose that could be detrimental to long life though.

i guess this applies to any church / religion...

infact, praying in a "church" (a physical place) is not the only thing that will make you "live longer"...

"praying" (or, at least, having a "correct state of mind") in general will have the same effect...

mind over matter really does work...

additionaly, for elders, owning a pet has been proven to make the elderly live longer...
