Hi ppl,

Ive been trying all day to remove this one and it just wont go, basicaly its one of those where it installs spyware and then wants you to buy there software to remove it.

Ive tried using spyware doctor, pc guard (comes free with telewest broadband).. tried running hijackthis and unchecked a few that I think might be causing this spyware to stay put.. and then finally I tried these removal instructions on this link below but this did nothing iether.

www.infopackets.com

I 'think' that almost all the spyware and possible viruses have gone apart from a bit of spyware and I keep getting a flashing cross next to my clock saying 'you computer is infected!'. I really dont want to reformat my pc as ive just spent days installing filters and fonts for photoshop and a load of samples for a music program.

Has anyone had this one before or got any advice?

Very simple to remove.

SMITREM

FixSF.Reg

You will see the FixSF.Reg just down slightly.

Run both of these and the download prompts will stop. Probably do a disc clean up. I work on a microsoft contract that helps with these programs.

The two of these together have been proven to remove it.

U2U me if you need any further information.

Yeah if you ever get an alert saying click here to fix the problem, and it looks like a possible legitimate microsoft site.

NEVER IS!

Microsoft may detect a problem on your system, but it never gives you a direct link to fix the problem

Everytime their is a direct link you know its fake.

Glad to hear "problem solved" Clarky!

Unfortunately, I have to deal with these "crapware" problems on a daily basis. I can't count the number of times people have actually been duped into "infecting/affecting" their own system by clicking on one of those "We have scanned your system and found it to be infected with blah-blah-blah" messages.

They're playing/preying on the fear factor to entice you to take their crapware with the hopes of getting rid of the "problem", when in fact there most often wasn't a "problem" to start with.

Sadly, once you accept their program, THEN you actually do have a problem. Of course they ALWAYS find "something" and, most often, when you go to "fix" it you are directed to a website where for the low low price of whatever.95 ... yeah right.

Again, before I go off on an hour long rant, I'm glad to hear, "Problem Solved!"

I ran Spybot, Ad-aware, Hijack this, and symantec AV, five times before I finally searched for the removal instructions. I had to clear it from my Bro's computer (too much surfing for porno in his case)

These 2 steps WILL remove it. Smitrem runs in 30 seconds and the FixSF.reg just adds a registry key. Done in a matter of a minute or two.
