Military plane hits building in Iran, page 1

update, c130 aircraft has hit a 13 story building tehran,
thick smoke

10 dead, being reported on state radio, its thought to have crashed shortly
after take of while turning,

94 people on board,
It is thought there may be many hurt on the ground,

It came down in the Yaftabad district in the south of the capital Tehran.

The building is reported to be in flames and emergency services are on the scene.

State radio has reported that at least 10 people have been killed.

The plane is believed to have just taken off from the city's Mehrabad airport, which handles domestic, international and military flights.

A report on state television said the plane suffered a "technical problem" immediately after take-off.

The city is currently enveloped in a thick blanket of fog.

A civil aviation official said: "There were between 74 and 90 people on board."

This is bad stuff, the aircraft is also thought to be quite aged,

This should be an ATSNN article imho.
Gona look for updates on it.

I hope the deathtoll stays at where it is, there is a quite big potential for this turning into many more deaths as they clear the ruble and see what people were all in the building and on the street.

I'm kinda wondering how long it takes before someone sais that this was an Iranian military training run for 9/11 attacks.

BBC News are reporting over 80 passengers and 10 crew have been killed in the crash, and that the building was 10 story, not 13.

A military plane going down - accident or not? It may become clearer when - or if - we find out who was on board the plane - like nuclear scientists for example.

That is not clear, the story is still breaking. It's not even clear who the c-130 belonged to (although I presume Iran?). All we know is the Aircraft was a c-130 and there were 94 people on board.

If this is just an accident America will be blamed for not supplying spare parts to keep them flying.

But who was on board? Any nuclear scientist? Is the a Mosad/CIA covert attack on the Iranian nuke program?

IRNA said most of the passengers on the flight to the southern port of Bandar Abbas were local journalists who were going to cover military exercises in the region.

The pilot had reported engine trouble and requested an emergency landing at Tehran's Mehrabad international airport, police told Iranian state television.

The plane hit an apartment block in the Shahrak-e Towhid neighborhood inhabited by members of the military and their families. It lies on the flightpath to Mehrabad airport.

IRNA said 94 people were on board the C-130. The semi-official Fars news agency put the number at 106 and quoted police as saying they feared the casualty toll would be heavy.

I read on Drudge that the people on the plane were journalists travelling to southern Iran to view military exercises.

That thought did not occur to me. However, I did wonder why the iranians don't put their money more into maintaining what they have rather than trying to create nuclear weapons. Seems that 'philosophy' may now have cost them dearly at home.

It didn't smack into the middle of the high rise, it clipped it with its wing.
It went down from engine trouble.

Some one said the wing just clipped the building, i was gonna say why the heck didnt it bring down the building with 9/11 in mind.???!!!

But if thats the case(wing) guess thats why then....
