Location SE Finland, 20Km west from Russian border, 250Km from Saint Petersburg

Threat: You guessed it right Russia

Reasons:
1)Political unstability and severe lack of transparency in government
-Power of actual elected representatives is questionable, because big money is pulling strings. (no one knows who's behind who, especially Putin and the Kremlin block)
-Lack of control by political parties
2)Continuing limitations to freedom of speech (Hodorkovski, Lebed... list goe on)
3)Heavy military buildup, including high increase of professional combat units
4)Continuing violations of sovreign airspaces

Analysis
Putin is a sane and stable leader and isn't likely to cause serious threats to anyone but areas currently trying to separate from Russian Federation.
But there is no certanity that Putins follower will continue the trend. Old iperialistic thinking is still deep within some Russian circles. (Panslavism)

Russia has enough resources to fully modernize their army if needed in very short time. They have decreased their state debt by over 50% during last few years and due to high demand of energy sector products they can raise the money needed for a war. And if Russians find a cause for a war it's not about money anymore, they, unlike USA, still have some collective national pride that will keep them fighting... if the enemy and cause of war is determined worth it.

As for a threat to Finland, i believe new Russian leadership could use Finland as an example or show of power (they tried it 1939, but got their asses whoped by us) I assume that Finnish army would be sufficent to give Russians a good fight, since we have 350 000 men is reserve trained for this event and relatively modern equipemnt, including Hornets, Leo2s, AMVs, CV9030s and AMOS'

As a threat to me personaly Russian spearhead regiments can each my home in about 30 minutes unless we have time to mobilize our army (fast but not that fast, if it's a suprise attack)

America is losing it's people, or should I say the people are paranoid of those in power in America. A paranoid people in fear of government often leads men to untold horrors.

The world will have to unite against America if we as a race are to continue.

Are you an American? Surely if you were, you would know that nothing that is going on now in the political spectrum of the USA hasn't happened before. Would you explain why the world has to unite against America? I find that somewhat of an inflammatory statement, but that does not mean there is not some reasoning behind it.

The media is not what you think it is, which is why i speculate you come here. But what i don't understand is why it is so hard for you or the majority of other americans to see the similiarities between nazi germany and present day america. It seems that its easier to take the first step than the second.

You know what the excuse of the nazi soldiers was when asked why they killed millions of innocent jews? They were "ordered" to. It wasnt hitler that killed the jews. It was patriotism. False patriotism at that, the country they thought they were fighting for no longer existed.

Is that the excuse we're going to use in 5 years when the truth about abu gharib comes out? So what if some innocent people get tortured by accident, we're fighting a war right?

Am I the only one who sees a huge difference between patriotism and nationalism? I hardly think people these days would even accuse the majority of Americans with jingoism, let alone nationalism. I would like to see some proof of this "coming nationalist dictatorship of the States" in which the poor enlightened folks will be likely tossed asunder.

And whats with Abu Ghraib? People were punished for their acts there! What else do you want? America as a nation to just give up its fight because a likely 20 or 30 soldiers did some really messed up things? In my country, i'm afraid we have personal accountability. Many people, however, can not see past the actions of a few people and are quick to just whitewash the whole of America. It is a thing of frightful hypocrisy, and I tire of it, although it is certainly not new to our age.

In any right, this argument is in danger of hijacking this thread, I apologize for veering off topic.

OK, well here's my opinion!

-My threat, Russia.
-My nation, Finland

Yes, we might not believe that Russia is going to be "active" in a while, that might very well be the truth. The country has traffic problems, buildings are collapsing because they are in so bad shape. Cars are exploding because of the rebels, money is disappearing! The Russian goverment have better things to do than to take over other nations. Yes, it's always nice and good to have a big country, but the line is drawed somewhere. If a nation is just growing and growing, it becomes very hard to lead it. Smaller parts (of the country) wants to be indepence, some are rich and somebody are poor. It wouldn't just work out! Therefore I believe that my Nation is under no what so ever threat to be "taken over"

However I was very eager to post to this thread and the only possible threat would be Russia! With all the other nations we are very close, we would help each other during war, there's even proof of that. We stand by eachother. ussia is the only possible threat. Here we always talk that are army is to defend us from the east threat. And we know all to well, that they really are a threat, they ahve attacked us before, many times, however always failing!!!! Our nation has never lost, and will never loose. It might be small, but the spirits live inside!!!! "Qualitas Potentia Nostra"

For me, as an Englishman living in a (at the moment) very sunny Gloucestershire, then the threat has to be:

1. Germany and
2. France

My reasoning? Well Germany is experiencing the massed unemployment of the 20s and 30s and her economy is failling - both situations which led to the rise of National Socialism and enabled Hitler to be the Reich Chancellor,
and National Socialism is on the rise again. Neo Nazis are gaining support from the common people and their policies are seen as the salvation of their nation.

Why Germany? Because Germany above all, have sought to dominate European countries either through force of arms or political or monetary means, for hundreds of years and see themselves as the natural leader of a new world order in Europe.

Germany was one of the founder members of the European Economic Community and has sought to dominate the way the EEC has been expended and ruled. The EEC was one of the ideas that Hitler had, and in that, he saw it as a direct rival to the United States. (Much as mainland Europe sees itself today)

Why France?

Because in the great scheme of things European, France could and should stand up to Germany but because they [both] are hell bent on becoming a superstate within Europe, I fear France will just roll over and allow herself to be raped again like she did in 1914 and 1940.

I hereby declare that this Wandsworth Council "Hug a Terrorist" meeting is officially in session.

I think the biggest "threat" comes not from a nation, but from ideological left wingers who haven't yet realised that socialism is a poisoned science.

Well Windchester, you cannot deny people to air their views, whether you agree with them or not.

I don't think that calling this thread a charter (my word) for 'hugging in terrorist' is very helpful.

It was a sincere thread and the originator set specific rules which I might add, you are the first person to break.

Why?

On the most parts, a common trend can be picked up from the answers, it comes down to the fact that of large part of those nations entered, they are the nations that either to not embody Democratic way of life and base their rule of law on either their religous or social view point. For many that of us that live in the western world, we can't understand a mind set that for the most part, we know very little about, bar from CNN reports and newpaper reports from or about those nations.

The Common Threats appeared to be:
- China
- Russia
- Iran

Two of the 3 with confirmed nuclear weapons and the third, trying to develop them, while Russia is now a democratic nation, it still appears that the old communist stigma is still there and there fore breeds a deep distrust with many of the nations in the western world. China is rearming her forces and again making threats against Tawian again. Iran is the Islamic nation.

On the whole, we can't over look that these have traditional had some mystic connection to our nations and at one point or another been enemies.
