Oops, I got distracted after finishing my last reply. Yer up, have at.

I wonder if the libra is actually a libra? I'm a libra as well, so if he is also, we could sell this debate to pay-per-view as "Battle of the Scales-Babies."

"Sunday..Sunday..Sunday!"

I am indeed a Libra. Dead center of Libra, in fact. Though I pay little heed to astrology, I gotta admit, I fit the description of Libra in pretty much every fashion. Hence the name. Whackadoodly!

Of course back in my day, they didn't have these fancy-schmancy horoscopes yet. All we had were rocks. When you were born, the midwide would pick you up by the legs and give you a good few thwacks against a rock. The type of rock we were thwacked against determined, to a degree, our mental conditions.

Yer up, mate. I'm lookin' forward to the final wossname of doom. Wish I had another few thousand words to fill though, cause I could fill 'em all... oh well...

Battle of the Libra's hmm? I'm tempted to make a joke you two being full of hot air, but 1. It's lame. 2. Most people reading probably don't even know that Libra is an air sign.

I'm a Leo. Worse still, in the Chinese Zodiac, I'm a boar, which shares several attributes with Leo, making me Uber Leo. Since we're discussing astrology, I think I should point out a little something I read in an astrology book several years ago when i was really into that stuff. "Leo's don't have a superiority complex. They really are superior."

By the way, did you guys know that Sylvester Stallone's Mom is a quack psychic/astrologer?

Leo's rock.

I'm really enjoying reading the debate, it's really very good. I love just watching you guys move and bend around each other.

My last rebuttal is out of the barrel, it's on to you for the closing statement.

At this stage it's a moot point because whoever mentions Hitler first, loses, no?

Have at good buddy, show me whatcha got with the finale.

I just wanted to say, for the record, I enjoyed this debate immensely. And what's better, I didn't even have to play Devil's advocate for the final round, I actually stand by my convictions in this case.

It's been a blast.

Normally I'd agree on the Hitler thing, but as this is directly related to it, I'd say it's quite applicable. Anyway, my closing statement is posted and I also stand by my guns in this.

Oi... time to go drinking.

Wow! That was quick (and dirty?), I'm going to go have a gander now.

Did you have the thing pre-prepared, or did you just knock it out? If the latter is the case, good on ya'! You wrote a closing statement in the time it took me to put up a toilet paper holder and smoke a cigarette. Blazing!

Without going into too many gruesome details, a medical condition got a lot worse last night. I knew I'd need to go to a clinic and probably be unconscious for most of the next day or two. So I prepared it ahead of time, as I didn't want to miss the future deadline. I'm sitting on hold waiting to speak with the doctor right now, in fact, and have been asleep for most of the day.

So, it wasn't intended as a dirty trick, but rather a way to avoid forfeiting the tournament...

Oh, great... just got ahold of them. Wait time is 3 hours... I hate life right now.

Well, that sucks! Best of luck in your recovery or, as may be the case, management of your condition. But don't spare us the gory details, some of us are writers, always on the lookout for inspiration, yaknow.

Fair enough. I wasn't calling it a dirty trick though, FYI. My comment was referencing the cliche phrase 'done quick and dirty', nothing more. I know you well enough not to expect dirty tricks.

Sounds bad...

In my experience, the two most painful, non-lethal conditions are Shingles and Stones (gall, kidney, bladder). God help you if you've got either. Best of luck.

Best wishes thelibra.
Good on you to prepare ahead, but we could've made reservations if needed for extenuating circumstances. Didn't know this meant so much!

Libra, if the ailment in question can be cut off, cut out, or otherwise treated by apt handling of a knife and forceps, I offer my services, complete with 100 proof anesthesia, for free.
I've got a lot of practice on my own injuries. Once in a while my treatment actually helps.

I've returned from the doctor. I'll have to go to a specialist tomorrow and get surgery. If it's what my dad went through, I won't be back for a week or so.

If you really want the gory details, it's a hemmorhoid the size of a plum. 'nuff said.

Standing up!

I'm sorry, it's not funny...

My girlfriend went through the same thing when she was younger. To hear her tell the story, it was entirely, 100% unfunny.

This gives me an idea for a future debate topic.

"We should develop a system for using nuclear weapons to destroy killer asteroids."
WyrdeOne will be arguing for this proposition.
TheLibra will be arguing (very strenuously) against this proposition.

Edit to add: All joking aside, my sympathies to you Libra. Ouch.

Hello again, just checking back in before I go to the specialist today. God help me if I have to get the full-blown inpatient surgery.

Anyway, I was curious about something. In any competition, what draws the most views? The Finals, right? So why are the finals getting less views than earlier rounds? It puzzles me.

Ah well... at least it was fun. WyrdeOne, you make a great opponent. I'm glad for the mental workout you gave me.

And as for the staff and judges and previous competitors, thank you as well. I have learned more about current human crises facing the world in the last month than I think I had in the previous decade. Though I've become a lot more fatalistic as the result of these debates, at least I've become educated as well.

Thank you all... and now, back to my painkillers.

Why so few views you ask? We're old hat by this point!

Ah well, I had a great time, and I'm very pleased with how the finals panned out.

There's gold in them thar' posts.

I graciously return your 'able opponent' sentiments Libra, you were a worthy adversary for the finals, to be sure.

Not to detract from your performance at all, but there were several others I thought demonstrated the skills and eloquence necessary to win. I'm not going to name names, because it would be rather tacky but, it suffices to say that this was a really good fight card from the word 'Go', and if it weren't for tough match-ups, bad luck, and the intrusion of reality, any number of other fighters could have taken the prize.

To the judging!

I'm anxious to know the results, but I have a feeling it will take them awhile. It's a pretty hairy subject, let's face it.

In any case, get well soon Libra.

Thank you.

I had a great time this debate (the last two days pain notwithstanding).
In all the debates leading up to it as well.

I really look forward to the next tournament, however I will not be able to participate in any further debates until after the wedding in October.

I agree, any number of the debators in this tournament could have made the grade. I personally would still like to have a debate against Off the Street, though again, not till after the wedding.

Well... this will be my last message for a bit. I found a doctor who will perform the surgery. If all goes well, I'll be back home this evening, though drugged out of my skull. If things go poorly...I'll see everyone in a few weeks.

dang thelibra, what a way to top off the final debate!
To go down in a drug induced torpor. I hope everything works out.

I dont think this is actually true. I remember for a long the War on Terror debate had the highest view count of that torument for a long time. It really boils down to what readers find interesting and what links they send or u2u to their friends.
